Music cue: Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood
Casey felt like she was entering a different world as she walked through the doors of Quinn's villa.
The lights were off and the only source of illumination was coming from disco lights on the ceiling. Casey wondered where they had got them. She guessed that someone had brought it from home.
When Izzie heard the song that was playing, her eyes lit up and she turned to look at Casey. "I believe you made me a promise," She said with a smirk and Casey chuckled, allowing Izzie to drag her to the dance floor.
"You came!" Quinn exclaimed as she and Penelope shuffled closer to Izzie and Casey. "Heard you stood up to Nate. That was badass," Penelope said, handing them two red cups.
"What's in this?" Casey asked but her question was answered when she took a sniff and a strong whiff of vodka hit her nostrils. "You don't have to drink if you don't want to of course. But a drink or two could help you loosen up," Quinn said, chugging down the last bit of her drink.
Casey turned to look at Izzie who was already taking a sip of her drink. She hissed but eventually smiled as she started to move more freely to the music.
What's the harm in trying? She's tried alcohol before. Obviously not to the extent where she was drinking from a cup, surrounded by people she barely knew. But she trusted Izzie. She was starting to trust Quinn and Penelope too.
They cheered as Casey took a sip. She felt uncomfortable at first, not used to the way it made her throat or heart burn. But Izzie suddenly looked more euphoric than she usually did. Casey knew Izzie was beautiful. But she tried her hardest to stop herself from looking at her too long or feeling the way she was because of Evan. But the alcohol was making her lose all her morals and she was so, so close to telling Izzie she was the most gorgeous person she had ever laid eyes on.
Use the sleeves of my sweater
Let's have an adventure
Head in the clouds but my gravity centered
Casey could see from the corner of her eye that Quinn and Penelope had already shifted their focus to dancing with two other guys. Izzie looked at her as if she was desperate for something.
Touch my neck and I'll touch yours
You in those little high waisted shorts, oh
Casey moved to the rhythm, at the same time moving closer to Izzie who complied. Izzie had her classic smirk on, happy that this was a reality. Dancing to Sweater Weather with a girl. She's thought about it more often than she would like to admit.
Oh, she knows what I think about
And what I think about
One love, two mouths
One love, one house
No shirt, no blouse
Just us, you find out
Nothing that I wouldn't wanna tell you about, no
Casey's hands moved to Izzie's hips, gripping them tightly as she pulled her closer. She knew she shouldn't be doing this. She knew what this implied. She knew that this would completely change the relationship she had with the girl. But she couldn't stop. She refused to stop. Izzie's lips parted as she sighed, looking up at Casey with eyes that said that she so desperately wanted to fuck her.
Casey tried so hard to remember Evan but it was hard in the midst of alcohol. She tried to remember his face that she had fallen in love with, the way he held her hand, his warm lips against hers.
'Cause it's too cold
For you here
And now, so let me hold
Both your hands in the holes of my sweater
Izzie's arms moved to around Casey's neck. No one was looking at them. It was dark and loud and everyone was too busy dealing with getting laid or intoxicating themselves. "Can we... can we get out of here..." Izzie whispered desperately. Casey knew what she meant. They weren't leaving because it was boring or because they were tired.
They weren't going to sleep that night. And Casey wasn't exactly sure what any of this meant, but she allowed Izzie to drag her away from the party, thankful that Nate wasn't invited to cause a scene.
They said nothing on the way back to the villa, both girls still holding their cups of vodka and Casey had even stolen an extra bottle before leaving Quinn's.
Izzie pushed the door open but now the atmosphere had changed. They couldn't hear the music anymore and there were lights. It seemed more innocent now, more nerve wracking.
At this point, Casey had no remembrance of Evan at all. And Izzie most definitely didn't care about Nate. Casey poured them some more alcohol and Izzie sat up on the kitchen counter, facing Casey who was chugging everything down. She watched as some of the drink spilled down Casey's chin and ran down her neck. Izzie started to breathe heavily, knowing that she did not need anymore alcohol to convince her that she wanted this.
She snatched the cup away from Casey, impatient. Izzie then dragged her to the couch before pushing her on it. Unfortunately for Izzie, Casey was starting to sober up a little. Casey allowed her to climb onto her lap but she had to admit, her heart was racing right now.
"Wait, wait Izzie... what about Nate?" Casey sighed as Izzie kissed her neck. "Fuck Nate," She groaned before finally attaching their lips. Casey moaned into the kiss and slipped her tongue into her mouth.
Izzie broke away and dragged her hands down Casey's shirt, gripping the hems of it. "You have no idea what you do to me Casey..." Izzie whispered against her neck and Casey took in a deep breath.
Izzie's hands then slowly moved to the button of the jeans and the moment Izzie popped one open, Casey pushed her hands away. Izzie looked at her in shock but stopped immediately.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
"I'm... I'm... I'M ON MY PERIOD!" Casey yelled and Izzie raised her eyebrow. It was the only excuse she could come up with at the time. "Oh... I mean... we don't have to... go that far... we can just-"
"NO IZZIE!"
Izzie was taken aback but she stayed on Casey's lap, not knowing what to do.
"I... I just... I can't..."
Casey started to get off and Izzie rolled off of her, watching as she buttoned her pants again. "Casey I'm sorry-"
"Izzie I just- I need some space. Okay?" Casey bellowed, her eyes red. She felt like crying.
"Space...?" Izzie asked, nervously.
"Yeah... from you."
...
Casey could not believe any of this was happening.
She clutched onto her phone, jacket wrapped around her tightly as she trudged along the snow to the hotel. She had texted Sharice that she would be staying with them for the night.
Before Casey and Izzie had become friends, Casey always had the urge to just sneak into the hotel to room with Sharice and Tanya. She knew no one would bother to snitch on her to the teachers when they returned.
But now as she left the villa to go to the hotel, she felt guilt rise in her chest. The image of Izzie's distressed eyes when she left the room was etched in her mind. But everything had happened so fast. She couldn't do that to Evan.
When she reached the hotel, she pushed open the doors, sighing at the warmth that hit her skin.
"Casey..." Sharice whispered when she opened the door, immediately recognising that she was not in a good place. Casey didn't know how to explain what she was feeling so instead, she collapsed into Sharice's arms, exhausted. Sharice held her tight and stroked her hair as she allowed the tide to come in.
"I... I don't know what to do... I'm gonna hurt both of them..." Casey cried and Sharice gently closed the door. Tanya was sitting on the bed, looking at Casey with sadness as they gave her time to collect herself.
"Hurt who?" Sharice gently asked and Casey wiped her tears. "Izzie... Izzie and Evan."
Sharice and Tanya looked at each other knowingly before guiding Casey to the bed.
"I just... I feel so guilty. Because I love Evan but... Izzie just feels so right. She makes me so happy and I feel all... giddy around her. And God I hate to admit it but I don't feel like that with Evan," Casey explained before bursting into tears.
"Casey... you deserve to be happy. And Sharice and I can't decide who'll give you that happiness. But if you want our advice... just pick the person that makes you feel alive. And look, I know Evan's a great guy and all but that doesn't mean feelings stay forever. He may not be the one for you," Tanya said, running her hair through Casey's hair.
"But Evan's... so perfect. He's so nice and sweet and... seeing how Nate treats Izzie just makes me feel like I should appreciate Evan more. And I know I love him... so much."
"Okay so would you rather spend the rest of your life in a stable relationship with this sweet boy or would you rather spend the rest of your life skiing down the slopes with your devil? It's your call Case." Sharice continued and Casey looked down, processing their words, knowing that she was leaning towards the second option.
"We're not Team Evan or Team Izzie. We're Team Casey. And all we want is for you to be happy."
...
After talking to Sharice and Tanya for about an hour, she felt better again. They had also managed to convince her to go to the villa to see Izzie. Not to talk about everything, of course. Casey still didn't know how to formulate her thoughts. But she didn't feel like leaving Izzie hanging. She would apologise for running away and maybe they'd be okay again. A little awkward, but okay. And then she would see how things go on from there.
Casey heard the distant thumping of music as she entered the villa area and realised that the party was still going on. She suddenly had the urge to drink again but she stopped herself, knowing that she had to be properly sobered up before talking to Izzie.
She got a text and she so desperately hoped it was Izzie but her heart dropped when she saw that it was Evan.
Evan: call you in 5?
"Oh fuck," Casey muttered to herself, turning off the phone. She had completely forgotten that she promised to call Evan that night. She figured she could apologise to Izzie and then spend some time talking to Evan, so she rushed towards her villa.
Before she could turn the corner she bumped into Quinn and Penelope who were both drunk out of their minds. "Casey! You rushed off with Izzie so soon!" Quinn slurred before drinking from her beer bottle. "Yeah, I didn't feel so well," Casey answered simply before trying to move past them to enter her room.
"Oh you don't wanna go in there. She's been in there with Nate for a long time doing God knows what. It would be awkward to walk in on them," Penelope said. Casey's entire world collapsed.
Yes, she ran away from Izzie after leading her on. But why would she do that? Why would she have sex with HIM. Casey's eyes started to well with angry and jealous tears.
"I told you Case. There's nothing we can do to convince her to leave that douchebag. Let's not worry about that. The night is still young!" Quinn exclaimed, pulling her towards her villa.
"Actually guys, I promised to call Evan. You guys go ahead, I'm feeling tired anyways," Casey said, forcing a smile.
"Lame! But take this, you seem like you need it," Penelope said, giving her a bottle of beer. Casey gladly accepted it.
When Quinn and Penelope were out of sight, Casey dragged her feet around, finding for a private area, when all she really wanted to do was go back to the villa and kick Nate in the balls before taking Izzie and kissing her deeply. But she couldn't do that. Not anymore.
She settled on the steps of a stairway before turning on her phone. She felt sick in her stomach. She was angry just thinking about what was going on between Izzie and Nate in THEIR villa and plus, she felt nervous about talking to Evan.
She clicked on his contact and soon his face appeared with a bright smile, calming Casey's nerves a little bit.
"Hey Casey!"
Casey's heart jumped a little. There's no denying how much she loved this man. "Hey Evan... I'm sorry I haven't texted you."
"It's cool. What have you been up to? Are you on the staircase?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows as she chuckled. "Yeah... my roommate's with her boyfriend in our room so..."
"Yikes. How's she like?"
Casey took a moment, scared that she was entering danger zone by talking to her boyfriend about a girl she just made out with two hours ago.
"She's... cool. Her name's Izzie. I guess we started off on the wrong foot but... we're actually similar in a lot of ways. I guess it's easy to talk to her," Casey said, careful to choose her words.
"Seems like she's easier to talk to than me huh?" Evan chuckled and Casey looked at him with guilt before his eyes softened. "I'm kidding... it's cool," He quickly said, but the hurt was evident on his face.
"So what have you been up to?" Casey asked as he got into a more comfortable position on his bed. "I actually brought your brother to the aquarium today. I drove over to your place to pass your mum a cake that Beth made. And he needed a ride so I offered. I think we've really been hitting it off, which is great."
That's another thing Casey had yet to consider. Sam.
Casey knew Evan and Sam had a special bond and she would never want to ruin that. But something inside her just knew that Izzie and Sam would have an amazing bond as well. How her partner treated Sam was one of the most important factors to her. So she was happy to hear about Evan taking time out of his day to spend with Sam. But she knew that she and Izzie related in terms of having to protect their siblings... and she knew Izzie would protect Sam just the same. The thought made her heart flutter.
"That's so nice of you... I've really been missing everyone," Casey sighed.
And it was true. She expected constant partying and eating and drinking on this trip, which she has been doing, but she never expected herself to gain a deep rooted attraction for her devil of a roommate. Although Casey saw her as an angel now. Sometimes she wondered how she could have spared herself the confusion and hurt if she had just never come on this trip. But then she wouldn't have met Izzie... and Casey would never trade Izzie for the world.
"Everyone's missing you too. Your mum's been constantly checking if there's any snow storms down where you're at. Sometimes she forgets we're still in the same state," Evan laughed and Casey rolled her eyes.
"And I miss you too," Evan whispered and Casey smirked. "How much?"
"So, so much. My bedsheets smell like you," He said. "Hmmm, I wonder why."
"I mean... you have spent a lot of time in my bed," He said with a low voice and blood rushed to Casey's cheeks. Before she could come up with a witty and flirtatious reply, she heard footsteps and looked up to see Izzie turning the corner. Their eyes widened as they noticed each other.
"Casey? You still there?" Evan called out and she looked at her screen. From the look on Izzie's face, she knew that Izzie had heard the conversation.
"Hey... yeah I'm still here. Do you think we can talk tomorrow? I'm a little tired," Casey said and he smiled, nodding.
"Of course. And be careful okay? You can't be getting injured anymore," He said. From the corner of Casey's eye she could see that Izzie was getting a bucket of ice from the common cooler.
"I love you," Evan said and Casey choked up, not sure of how to say it back in the presence of her devil. "I love you too..." she whispered and she saw Izzie tense up as she scooped more ice into the bucket.
Evan blew her a final kiss before hanging up.
"Izzie," Casey started, getting up but Izzie didn't respond. "Izzie, can we talk?"
"I'm not ready to," She said quietly and Casey felt a nervous pit in her stomach. "You wanted space from me. I'm giving you space," She replied simply, her voice shaking as she held back her tears.
"Were you with Nate?" Casey asked softly and Izzie shut the cooler before walking away from her.
Casey sighed, knowing she wouldn't be able to get to Izzie. She watched as Izzie walked back to Quinn's room to hand them the bucket of ice. She guessed that the party would go on until the early hours of the morning.
She then turned to the direction of their room and saw Nate walking out.
So it's true. Nate was with Izzie.
Before Casey could allow the emotions to take over her, she ran towards her room and was now facing Nate, eye to eye.
"What?" He asked, his eyebrow raised.
Casey took in a deep breath. "You don't deserve her."
Nate laughed a little before looking straight into her eyes. "Who? Izzie? That girl needs me, whether you like it or not," He bellowed and Casey grunted her jaw. "I'm the only reason anyone even pays attention to her. Without me, she's just a pathetic, broke failure. So don't even try pulling us apart."
He moved closer to Casey who was breathing heavily, trying to keep her emotions in check. "And I will cheat on that slut as many times as I want."
Casey lunged forward and punched him straight in the nose. "URGH! WHAT THE HELL!" He screamed, tumbling back against the wall as he held his nose. Casey gripped his collar and pushed him against the wall.
"Don't you dare fucking speak about her that way..." She whispered before giving him another punch.
"WHAT'S GOING ON?!" Casey turned around to see Izzie, her jaw agape as she witnessed the scene unfold.
"She punched me!" Nate immediately said and Casey let go of him. "Izzie, he was talking crap about you okay? I just-"
"No! I was just walking out of the room and she punched me! She's crazy! I could send your ass to jail!" Nate yelled at her and Casey moved closer to him before Izzie pushed them away from each other.
Izzie looked at Casey for a while, as if thinking about her next move. Quinn and Penelope were now outside, watching as everything took place.
Eventually, Izzie turned to Nate and took his face between her hands. "Are you okay?" She asked softly and he smiled at her. "I think it's broken..." He said.
"Come on, let's go find you some first aid," She said, taking his hand. Casey could not believe her eyes.
"Izzie... are you serious? I didn't hit him for no reason, he said-"
"Save it Casey. She knows me better than she knows you," Nate said, before touching his nose and hissing. Izzie turned behind to look at Casey, who had tears streaming down her face. Casey so desperately wanted Izzie to see the truth. She wanted Izzie to run back to her. She wanted Izzie to see the light in the dark right now... but she didn't. Casey couldn't be her visual purple.
So instead, her devil turned around and continued to walk with her boyfriend.
Away from Casey.
"Hey Casey..." Quinn started, touching her shoulder but Casey shrugged it off as more tears rolled down her face. "She doesn't trust me. She believed him over me," She muttered and Quinn and Penelope looked at her sadly.
"Why did I ever think she cared about me? God I'm such an idiot," Casey said, laughing through her tears.
"She does care about you Casey..."
"No she doesn't. And I'm not gonna care about her either," Casey concluded before entering her room and slamming the door behind her.
