~4 years back~

I checked myself in my full length mirror and went down. From the smell, I could say it was my dad cooking. He loved grilled cheese and eggs.

'Good morning, dad.'

'Good morning, muffin.' He hugged me.

'Dad, will we go for movies today?'

'No dear, I am busy the whole day'

'Pleeeaseee?' I pleaded, giving him puppy eyes.

'That is not gonna work on me.' He laughed.

'Yeah. Whatever.'  I sat turning away from him.

'Good morning, sweetheart.' Mom greeted as she walked down the stairs.

'Good morning, mom.' I went to her giving her a hug.  

'Breakfast ready!'

My dad  had set the breakfast which consisted of grilled cheese and eggs.

'Sweetie, come fast! Your dad is waiting for you.'

'Coming, mom.'  I put on my shoes and went outside.Mom was talking to my dad.

'Goodbye mom.' I kissed her.

'Goodbye dear!' She kissed me back.

I hopped into my dad's car and waved at my mom. I raised the volume of the radio and looked out of the window.

My dad lowered the volume. I sighed.

My dad cared a lot about us. He had a very strict rule not to talk in the car. He always said  it was a very big disturbance for him and we could end up in hospital.

Dad loved us a lot. He does everything he can, to make us happy. He works in this big company in the city - Bardot Industries. He is very busy and works there from morn till night.

My mother works at Hillside private limited. She comes back afternoon. Sometimes, she goes for night shift.

Ian's parents has been working with my parents from the starting. That is how I know Ian. Ian's mother, Mrs. Audrey Carter, works with my father and his father, Mr. Daxton Carter, works with my mother. Their family comes over to our house to hang out.

'Muffin, we reached.'

I looked outside the window and stared at my school - Palm springs high.

'And muffin.... I may have a small surprise for you.'

'Surprise! What is it?'

He handed me an envelope. I opened it to find 3 tickets for movies at 7:30. I gasped.

'Dad, you are the best!!' I hugged him and kissed him on the cheek. He chuckled.

'Now go attend your classes and we will have fun tonight.'

'Bye, dad.' I waved him goodbye as I watched him drive away.

I greeted my mom as I walked in.

'I assume your dad has already told you our plans.'

'Yes and I am super excited for it.'

My mom's phone rang.

'I'll go and get it.'

I ran over to the phone. It was Ian!

'Hello?'

'Gen, Is my mom over there?'

'Uhmm...no'

'Okay then...call you later'

'Wait..what happened? Is she fine?'

'Uhmm..yeah.. I think! She has not returned yet.'

'Oh.. then bye'

'Okay bye'

I ran over to my mom. 

'It was Ian. His mom still did not reach home.'

'She might be busy with work.'

Ring - ring....ring - ring

Mom's phone rang again. She answered it.

'Hello'

The caller said something which made my mom drop her phone. Tears filled her eyes. She dropped to her knees and started sobbing.Her entire body was shaking terribly. Not knowing what to say, I walked to the place where the phone was and picked it up.

'Hello? Who is this?'

'We have called to inform you that Mr.Owens has met with an accident and has passed away.

~PRESENT~

'Gen? Gen? You there?'

I broke out from my trance and looked at Kamri who was waving her hand in front of me.

'Yes Kam?'

'You zoned out.'

'Oh that...uhmm... it was nothing.' I assured her. She sighed.

'But how could Ian do this to you? You love him and-'

'I love him. But does he love me? I guess that's a no.' I cut her off.

'Hey, don't be sad... it must be a misunderstanding. We will ask Ian abou-'

'There you are.' Ian and Asa came and sat at the table. It was hard for me to make eye contact with Ian. Those green eyes..huh!

'Hey kam.. hey Gen!' Ian greeted us.

'Hi.' Kam basically had a storm whirling in her eyes.

'Uhmm...hey Ian..hey Asa.' I nodded at both of them.

'I..uhmm.. have to go the library.' I pulled Kamri with me and walked away.

I hopped into the passanger seat as Kamri started the ignition. The car roared to life as we drove away from our school.

'Kam? Can we go get starbucks?'

Kamri nodded blankly.

I could say that Kamri was still upset with Ian. I sighed. It seemed totally senseless to me.

Kam parked the car.

'One overload chocolate frap and-'

'And a coffee frap.' Kam just loved coffee.

We stood aside waiting for our names to be called.

'Gen!! Look over there.' Kam pointed to the left. I turned and could not believe what I saw. Ava was with another boy. Wait!! Was she cheating on Ian?

Kamri pulled me towards the couple.

'Excuse me, Ava?'

'Oh.. hey Kam...hey Gen.' Ava greeted us.

'Who are they babe?'

'These are my classmates... Genevive and Kamri.' She introduced us.

'Uhmm...may I ask who this is, Ava?'

Hearing her answer made me heave a sigh of relief.
