Chapter Seven
Krystal's POV
After a really nice breakfast, in which I stuffed my face, we headed over to the HQ. There were guards guarding the building when we got there. We showed them my letter, and they let me in.
Since Lexus didn't have any devices with him, (he claims that they all got viruses) the guards had trouble believing him when he said he was with us. We all convinced them that he was with us, and after a while, they just gave in and Lexus got through.
"Are you excited?" Lexus asked me.
"Yeah," I said.
Lexus and I hadn't interacted much, until breakfast. I got to know everyone that stayed in the suite with me much better, in fact.
"You okay?" he said, with concern on his face.
"Yeah, just tired," I said.
"You're always tired," Lexus said. "Wake up!"
"Hey! I can't help how much sleep I get!"
"You did sleep a lot," Lexus pointed out. "About 12 hours."
"It feels like 8..."
"8 is a lot of sleep though."
"Yeah, but-"
"Krystal! Lexus!" Shannon cut me off. "You're missing it! Look around the building!"
"Okay!" I said and muttered to Lexus, "We're putting this argument on pause."
"Agreed," he said with a playful grin still on his face.
I looked around the building. Probably about the coolest office I've ever seen, with high quality furniture. That's probably what they did with all of the money they make.
"Wait a minute," DJ said. "Where are we going? We've just been walking and walking... to nowhere, really."
I laughed. He was completely right.
There was silence, probably because everyone was figuring out what to say or do.
"So, um," Hayden said. "I guess we ask for directions?"
We all nodded.
After a few minutes of walking all the way back to the entrance, (and getting weird looks from the guards) we asked them for directions and they said to go to floor 4.
In the elevator, I wouldn't give Shannon a break about leading us. I thought it was funny, and I think Shannon did too. Everyone else seemed a bit annoyed after a bit, although Hayden snickered at times.
When we finally arrived at the room, Notch, his other workers and all the other teens were in the room. The teens were each at desktops, while the Mojang workers were standing in front of a large screen that was blank. I suddenly felt really embarrassed.
"Sorry we're late," I said. "Got lost."
"It's fine," Notch said. "We just got started with the presentation. But try not to be late next time, okay?"
I nodded for everyone standing behind me.
"Just get seated at a computer, and I'll provide further instructions," he said.
We walked over to a row of five computers and sat down. There wasn't a computer for Hayden over where I was sitting, so he had to take the one next to Vivian.
I felt a twinge of jealously, but that quickly faded when the computer came on. It was decked with Minecraft, and had Windows 8.1 installed on it.
Notch typed a few things down on his computer, and then all of our screens went black. Then, a powerpoint came on. It came on the big screen as well. It was titled, future updates and behind the scenes for Minecraft PE.
Everyone broke into excited murmurs when they saw it. Notch stepped in front of the room, and began to make his speech.
He talked about what he was planning to put in the new updates in the future, and showed us some videos of Mojang working on the new updates. It was really amazing how they did it all.
After a two hour presentation, (it wasn't boring at all, it was awesome) we all had a lunch break. We had it in one of their meeting rooms. There were tables and chairs set up, and a mini buffet. Everyone started going over to the tables to sit down. Hayden was about to as well, but I tapped him and whispered, "Could we go out in the hall for a few minutes?"
"Sure," he replied.
I quietly opened the door and slipped out into the hallway along with Hayden.
"What's up?" he asked me.
"I was just wondering... if you were okay last night," I said as casually as possible.
"It was just a nightmare last night," he replied. "Everyone has them time to time, right?"
"I guess... you didn't seem okay after you woke up. But I just wanted to check in." I felt my face get warm. Asking him was a stupid idea.
"Thanks," he said. "It means a lot."
He looked like he wanted to say more to me, but didn't.
"You want to eat lunch now?" Hayden asked me. "I'm starved."
"Yeah," I said. "Sorry for causing you trouble."
"You didn't cause me trouble," he said.
We walked back in and grabbed a plate. I started serving myself food, and then walked over to a table with Luna at it. She was talking to Shannon, but then paused when she saw me sitting down.
"Hi Krystal!" Luna said.
Shannon greeted me too.
"So, what happened out there?" Shannon asked me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"You know, you and Hayden,"Luna said.
"We just talked about private things-"
Luna and Shannon smiled at each other.
I blushed. "It's not like that!"
"Then what is it like?" they both said.
"Like I said, we just talked about private things. I don't like him like that!"
"Oookay," Shannon said, not looking convinced. "But I've got great news. Lexus asked me on a dinner date!"
I raised my eyebrows. "Already? Seems pretty soon to me."
"I thought so too, but when he asked me I was like, "Hey, why not?""
"That's great, Shannon," I said, and then took a bite of my sandwich.
We continued to eat our lunch and have conversations with each other until we got called back to the computer lab. When we arrived back there, all of the computers had the Minecraft launcher already pulled up on them.
I sat down next to Hayden this time. I was relieved to see that he wasn't affected by the conversation we had, as if it didn't happen at all. So we just talked and joked around like we normally did until Notch silenced all of us.
"Welcome back," he said. "I hope you enjoyed the lunch, it was catered by a restaurant near here. Anyway, right now we will be learning the basics of running a server."
I already know this, I thought. I ran one until that virus hit my computer.
Notch did a step by step guide, and I followed the steps, even though I could already do it myself.
After a while, Notch left us to edit our servers. It was pretty fun, especially because I was basically rebuilding the server I had lost. I tapped Hayden, and he looked over.
"Yes?"
"You wanna get on my server and just build? I'll give you the IP."
"Sure."
I told him the IP, and he connected to my server. The game mode was creative, so we just did random things.
"Okay, so what do you want to do first?" I asked Hayden.
He didn't reply, but I could tell he was thinking.
"How 'bout... we spawn a few hundred monsters and fight them?"
I grinned. "Sounds good to me."
We suited up with enchanted armor and weapons. I got a diamond sword and Hayden got a bow and arrow. Finally, I put some spawn eggs in my inventory and changed the time of day to night.
"Ready?" I asked him.
"Ready when you are," he said.
"Okay... let the spawning-"
Almost as if it was a trigger word, all of the computers bared the words,
CORRUPTED COMPUTER.
I slammed my fists on the desk and let out a huge sigh.
"Not again...!" I said, exasperated.
Notch stood up, brow furrowed.
"So this is the virus everyone has been talking about..." I heard him mutter to himself.
Notch then started whispering something to one of the people helping him.
"Okay everyone, do not panic," Notch said. "It's easily fixable. My friend here, Johan, will try to fix the problem. While he does that, who's up for some tours?"
Man, Notch sure knew how to cheer a person up.
"Tours are pretty cool," I said to Hayden as we started to depart the room.
"Yeah," he said, looking like he was deep in thought.
The tour was awesome. I saw where Mojang actually worked on new updates for the PC version, some meeting rooms, and just lounge areas.
While we were walking through the lounge area, Notch got a phone call and stopped moving. Everyone else did too.
"I wonder what it's about," I whispered to Hayden.
"I do too," he said. "Hopefully it's not bad."
But it seemed pretty bad by the facial expression that was on Notch's face. When he hung up, he looked so worried and... scared.
"What's wrong?" a person asked.
Notch took a deep breath. And then he said, "Johan's gone. And we can't find him anywhere."
