Chapter Four
Krystal's POV
Tap, tap, tap. Click. I opened my eyes to see Hayden on his laptop.
"I hope you weren't up all night," I said.
"Well, good morning," Hayden greeted me. He glanced out the window. "Or as in Europe, good night."
"Time zone is so messed up," I muttered. "So anyway, did you sleep at all?"
"A bit," he replied. "When I got back from the bathroom, you were out cold. I fell asleep soon after. Woke up two hours ago. I don't know how I fell asleep sitting up..."
"Yeah," I said. "I was so tired I didn't notice or care."
I looked over at the laptop. "What are you doing there?"
"Minecraft," he said.
"Oh," I said. "I don't really feel like doing it right now. By the way, do you know when we're landing?"
"We've been in the air for a while," Hayden replied. "I wouldn't be surprised if we landed in the next fifteen minutes."
"That would make sense," I said. "I never asked why you were going to Norway. Why are you going there?"
"I got invited to the BSM," he responded. "What about you?"
"Same here!" I exclaimed.
"Cool!"
"So yeah..."
I relaxed in my seat a bit. After a minute, Hayden struck up another conversation.
"How did your laptop get that virus?"
I looked at him. "You really want to know?"
He nodded.
I took a deep breath. "Okay. So this is what happened..."
I told him the whole story about the person coming on my Minecraft server and corrupting my computer.
"I see..." he said.
"Why did you want to know?"
"Just was curious."
"Oh, okay."
I knew there was something he wasn't telling me. I just can't figure out why he would want that information so badly.
The flight attendant's voice came on the intercom. "We will be landing soon. Please turn off all electronic devices."
Hayden turned off his laptop and put it back in his bag.
A few minutes went by, and the plane landed. We grabbed our backpacks and moved out of the airplane.
"So, our next flight is at Gate 130 and it leaves in twenty minutes," Hayden said. "What do you want to do?"
"Eat lunch- no dinner!" I replied. "I'm STARVING."
"Okay," Hayden said. "Got any money?"
"Yep," I replied. "My parents packed me $150."
"My parents packed me around that," Hayden said. "So... where do you want to eat?"
"I don't really think there'd be a Panera here... so maybe a café?
"Sure. I bet there's one around here."
We walked around the airport, searching for a café.
"This airport is pretty nice," I observed.
"Yeah," Hayden said. "Much better than the airport at home."
"Where do you live?" I asked him.
"I live in Washington," he replied. "You?"
"California," I said.
"What's it like living there?"
"It's warm, sunny, pretty, and palm trees," I replied. "There's so much more, but it would take an hour to describe it."
"It sounds like a neat place," he said. "I used to live in Flordia, but then I moved to Washington."
"Was it hard?" I asked him. "Moving, I mean."
"Yeah," he said. "But I met some cool people. It wasn't that bad."
I nodded.
I then saw a café.
"Ooh, a café!" I pointed towards it.
We started running towards it. Hayden checked his watch in mid run.
"10 minutes left," he told me.
"Good," I said. "Just enough time to eat a quick meal."
We put our bags down on the table we chose and walked up to order.
The worker smiled at us and said, "Hei. Hvordan kan jeg hjelpe deg?"
"Um, we speak English," I said politely.
"Oh, sorry about that," the worker said in a heavy accent. "How may I help you?"
"Well..." I started to say. I looked up at the menu. There were different languages on the menu. I saw the English menu.
"I'll have a bagel and some hot chocolate please," I said.
Hayden also looked at the menu.
"I'll have a grilled cheese and some water," he said.
"Okay," the worker said. "It'll be ready shortly."
We walked back to our table. Hayden was smirking at me.
"What?" I said.
"I thought you said you were STARVING," he teased me.
"What? A bagel's filling."
"Not filling enough."
"Whatever. I'll probably eat more when we get to Sweden."
"I'm sure you will."
"Your food is ready!" the worker called.
Hayden stood up, but I said, "I'll get it," so he sat back down.
I thanked the worker, gave her my money, walked back to get Hayden's money, and paid for the food. I walked back with the food.
"I feel like a waiter," I said.
I placed Hayden's food down, and did the same to mine.
Suddenly, I felt my bag vibrate. I looked down to see it was my phone presenting a text message. I picked it up and checked it.
It was a text from one of my friends. It said, "I SAW HEROBRINE! :OOOO MY LIFE IS COMPLETE."
I smiled and texted her back, "That's great!!!!"
I put my phone back in my bag and took a bite of my bagel.
"What was that all about?" Hayden asked.
"Oh, it was my friend. She's all crazy about trying to find Herobrine. She claimed to have found him just now."
"You know, it's just a myth," he said. "I don't know what all of that talk about him is about."
"I think that too, but my friend is so determined that she won't listen to my reasoning. Have you ever seen him before?"
"Uh, no," he said. "I'm sure he doesn't exist anymore."
"Yep, totally agree."
I took a sip of my hot coco. Warmth spread through my body. I glanced outside. It was sunny, but people were wearing coats. It must be cold around here.
Hayden checked his watch and gasped. "Dang it! One minute until boarding! We gotta hurry!"
I grabbed my food and bag and started running with Hayden to our flight. When we got there, people were already boarding. We boarded as well. When we got on the plane, most of the seats were already filled.
We scanned the area, looking for two empty seats.
"I found one!" Hayden said.
"Let's go towards it, then."
We walked over and Hayden took the window seat. Right before I sat down, a girl about my age threw her bags on the seat.
This made me a bit ticked off.
"Hey!" I said angrily. "I was going to sit there!"
"Well, soooorrry," she said with an edge in her voice. "I was here first. Sit somewhere else."
"Actually, I kind of wanted to sit with her," Hayden said. "So I'm going to-"
The flight attendant's voice interrupted him. "Everyone, please find a seat because we'll be taking off in a few minutes."
I quickly sat in a random seat.
"Hey there."
I turned around to see a guy with blue eyes, blonde hair with green streaks, and he was wearing a green hoodie. He looked about my age, and if not, a year younger.
"Um, hi," I said. "Uh, what's up?"
"Nothing much," the boy said. "I just wanted to say hi."
"Oh."
Then there was an awkward silence.
I broke the silence. "So what are you doing here?"
"I got invited to the BSM," he said. "What about you?"
"Same with me," I said. "Do you know anyone else that's going? I kinda want an image of what these people are like."
"Hm. There's you, me, Vivian, Dale, and that guy you were with earlier. Those are all of the people I recognize, anyway. Who was that guy you were with?"
"His name was Hayden," I said. "Who's Dale and Vivian?"
"Dale's funny and nice," the guy described. He lowered his voice. "And Vivian's got an attitude problem. The girl that kicked you out of your seat."
"Yeah, she's got issues all right."
The guy looked over at the seat across from him. "Oh hey Dale, didn't see you there."
Dale had hazel eyes and brown hair that went down to his neck. He looked younger than me.
I waved at him. "I'm Krystal."
"Dale," he replied.
"So I've heard."
I turned to the other guy. "What about you?"
"I'm Darren," he replied.
Then, the flight attendant said that we were allowed to take out our devices.
I slipped my phone out of my pocket and snuck a glance at it. I got a text message, which was from my friend. It said, "Computer crashed :(".
I suddenly blurted out, "You guys believe in Herobrine?"
They both nodded.
"Still haven't seen him yet," Darren said.
"I have," Dale said. "Doing a mod. But I haven't really seen him playing normally."
"Do you know anybody whose computers have..."
"Crashed? Caught weird viruses while playing Minecraft? Yup, I heard it." Darren said.
"That's what happened to mine," I said glumly.
My eyes wandered over to Hayden and Vivian for a second. He looked bored, and all Vivian was doing was talking to him. Hayden just nodded absentmindedly. I saw him glance at me and our eyes locked for a second. Then I looked away, feeling bad for Hayden having to put up with her.
"But who makes all of those computers crash?" Darren continued. "A lone hacker? I doubt it."
"Probably just a guy with a bunch of friends that like doing that kind of stuff," Dale suggested.
I changed the topic. "So, what was the best server you built?"
We continued to talk for a really long time about Minecraft. Then, before long, the plane landed. We got off the plane and I searched the crowd for Hayden.
"So what does this Hayden guy look like?" Dale asked me.
"Dark brown hair, hazel eyes, and he's wearing a black hoodie right now," I described to him.
"Oh, I found him," Darren said.
Dale and I followed Darren to Hayden. Hayden was being followed by Vivian. And then he saw me and walked over.
"Krystal!" he said. "I've been looking-"
"Hi Hayden!" Vivian interrupted him. "Who's your friend?" I turned around fully to her, and she recognized me. "Oh, it's you."
She gave me a mean look, and I shot one back at her. I already hated her, and I barely knew her.
What a great start to an unwavering friendship, I thought sarcastically.
"Well, I should get going now, I have a taxi to catch. Bye!" she said.
She walked away. I turned to Hayden. "I'm guessing you don't like her very much."
"She's okay," he said, but I could tell he didn't mean most of that statement.
"So, I made some friends on the plane."
"Where are they?"
I pointed to them. "Right here. That's Dale, and this is Darren."
"Hi," they said.
Hayden waved at them.
"So where now?" I asked. "We made it to Stockholm. Where to?"
Darren dug through his pockets and pulled out the letter and airplane tickets.
"It says taxis have been sent to pick us up," he said. "That means we probably have to go out front and find the taxis that take us."
"Thanks," I said.
"We should probably get going," Dale said.
"Yeah," Hayden said.
Then we started rushing over to the exit of the airport.
••••••••••••••••
"Hey, do you know where the taxis that go to Mojang HQ are?" I asked a man.
We were outside looking for the taxis, but so far nobody knew where they were. But this man may know.
"Yeah," he said with a heavy accent and pointed to a row of taxis.
"Thanks!" I said.
I walked over to the taxis and Dale, Hayden and Darren followed.
"So this must be the place," Hayden murmured.
I approached a man that drove one of the taxis. "Excuse me, but is this a taxi to the Mojang Headquarters?"
"Yes ma'am," he replied.
I turned back to my friends. "That's us."
"Alrighty," Hayden said. "But don't taxis only seat two people?"
"Yeah," Dale said. "I guess we'll have to split. I'll go with Darren."
"And that leaves me with you," I said.
I dragged my bags and threw it in the trunk of the taxi. Hayden did the same, and then he opened the door to the taxi and we got in.
The taxi driver started driving. I stared out the window and saw a bunch of buildings go by. Sweden was a cool place.
"I can't believe it's nighttime," I said to Hayden. "When we get to the hotel or wherever we're staying, I'm going right to bed. I'm so exhausted."
"I'm guessing you like sleep?" Hayden asked.
"Yeah," I said. "Ever since school ended, I've been trying to get my sleep back. I love sleeping in. Best feeling in the world."
"I can't sleep in," Hayden said.
"Why not?"
"I just... can't. My body doesn't do that, I guess."
"That sucks."
"It's not really that bad."
We continued to talk for a few more minutes, and then the taxi stopped.
"We arrived," he announced.
I opened the door, excitement pulsing through me. When I saw the HQ, my heart literally stopped.
Holy crap. That building is huge.
