Chapter 1: A Brand New Year part 1
"Hello welcome back to school for senior year," Principal Spark said as he greeted to the year of 2010 senior class of Viridian City High School. "Some students are scared of senior year. Some don't care about it. But no matter how you feel it is going to be a big year for you all."
Principal Spark's voice was full of emotion as he spoke showing how much he cared for the students at the school. His light blue eyes seem to shine as spoke. He was tall and had straightened posture as he stood in front of the senior class of 2010 which consisted of maybe about 100 students inside of the auditorium. He ran a hand through his short blonde hair as he continued. "This year is the last before you become young adults with responsibility. But don't let me scare you, it's not all bad. For some of you, it will mean freedom, and others will be afraid to leave the safety of this school environment. The real world isn't always forgiving and it's important to know who you are and where you stand."
Principal Spark turned and grabbed some paper and pens off the stage behind her. The students were silent as he walked to each seat and instructed every student to take a piece of paper and pen and pass the materials on. They were attentive. He was young and had completed year twelve nine years ago. So he had an understanding of how they felt, and they respected that. Deep down they were afraid even if they wouldn't admit it.
When Principal Spark was satisfied that everyone had the required materials, he gave his instructions. "I want you to write down exactly how you're feeling at this moment. It doesn't only have to be about school. You can write about your life, your friends, what you want to achieve by the end of the year, whatever you are feeling right now. After you're done. I want you to fold up your piece of paper and hand it to me as you leave to officially start off your first day and new school year. I'm going to get you all through the various stages throughout the year. At the end of the year, they will be given back to you. This way, you can open them up and read them, and see how much you've changed throughout the year. Oh and don't worry, I'm not going to read them."
Quiet whispering waved over the crowd of students as they discussed the task. A few of them rolled their eyes looking uninterested. Others went straight to work writing. Principal Spark leaned against the stage as he watched the students write.
My name is Ash Ketchum. I feel kind of scared and excited about senior year. I really want to do well with my grades, maybe even get straight A's. I'm looking forward to getting out of school but I will miss being with my friends every day. Especially Serena. I love Serena. I love her more than anything and want to tell her so badly, but I can't. Because she is my best friend and has been since we were 7 and meet at Summer camp. I don't think she feels the same way I do. So I can't tell her because it would just make things between us awkward. I rather have her friendship than nothing at all. So anyway that's how I feel right now. Maybe in the future, I will have the courage to tell her how I feel. If it could be that simple then I will be happy.
Ash put down his pen and proceeded to fold up his piece of paper that held his biggest secret. He pushed a stray of a piece of his messy hair out of his eyes as he did so, before leaning back against his chair and glancing around the room.
Though he tried to hide it his chocolate brown eyes were focused on one person in particular average height fair skin girl with a shoulder-length honey blonde. He and Serena had been best friends since they meet, but last year his feelings for her had changed. His heart would beat faster when she came near, and his face would flush a deep red when they touched. His mother thought it was the cutest thing she has ever seen, but for him, it was a burden. Serena would never return his feelings. He couldn't tell her because he was afraid of rejection and destroying their friendship which was important to him. A voice snapped him out of his train of thought.
"Thinking about Serena again?" Brock whispered from beside him.
Brock was Ash's other best friend, who unfortunately for Ash could read him like a book. Ash cursed to himself as he realized he was caught looking at Serena and felt his cheeks blush.
"Huh?! What do you mean?" He whispered back, attempting to cover himself. Brock laughed.
"There is no point in denying it anymore Ash. I know you, and I know you like Serena." Ash laughed off the accusation lightly.
"Why don't you tell her?"
"Tell her what?"
"That you think she is beautiful," Brock taunted, gaining satisfaction from the embarrassed look on Ash's face.
"I do not!" He said loud enough that it stood out in the silence.
A few people including the principal turned to look at him. Embarrassed he turned his attention back towards the black carpet floor.
My name is Selene Moon. I'm new to Viridian High this year. I came here from a small island because my mother had gotten a new job here. I'm scared of starting a new school. I miss my old friends from home and it is hard making new ones. Especially in my senior year of high school. All the people here seem to know who they are and I hate that. I don't have much confidence and it makes me feel inferior. I want to be able to stand up and tell people what I want. I want people to notice me when I confidently enter the room. All I want is confidence this year.
Selene twisted her raven hair around her finger, a nervous trait. She had shoulder-length down with a side-swept bang on the left. She was wearing a short-sleeve yellow flower shirt and blue shorts. Her first day was hectic and her head was spinning from nerves. Her attention turned back towards principal Spark as he stopped the class from writing.
"Alright students pens down," He said with a smile. He walked forward away from the stage as his eyes scanned the room. "Now I know it's nearly time to send you off to class after this meeting, but I want to take a moment to introduce you to a new member of the year."
Selene froze as she realized the principal was talking about ther. She was positive that she was the only new student here. Sure enough Principal Spark pointed at her.
"Selene would you please stand up," He commanded politely.
Selene hated all the attention being put on her, but it wasn't like she could run away. With a nervous smile on her face, she stood up and immediately felt multiple pairs of eyes on her, staring her down. She now understood it must feel like for a new performer to have all the spotlight on them.
"Selene Moon is new to Viridian and new to Viridian High. I would like you all to make her feel welcome," He said with a smile.
A few waves of chatter filled the air until the principal hushed them all once again. Selene finally got to sit back down not wanting to know what kind of things they think of her so far.
"Ok class of 2010 you are dismissed. Hand your papers to me as you leave and head to your first class after a short break after sitting through this meeting an hour before school started," He explained that, and immediately people got up and ready to leave as if they couldn't wait another second. "Oh and Ash Ketchum, could you please come and see me before you leave. You too Selene," He added.
A few ooohs were heard from a group of most likely immature teens as they left the auditorium.
A few minutes later Selene made her way down to where principal Spark stood and stood alongside a young man who she guessed was Ash Ketchum.
He was tall and quite handsome in a cute boyish way, with beautiful brown eyes that for a moment she couldn't take her eyes off of. Until she noticed that she was looking at him.
"Don't worry Ash your not in any trouble," Principal Spark said with a chuckle, making him sigh in relief. "I was wondering since you won't afraid to talk during the meeting," He smirked. "If you would introduce Selene to our school. You know show her around what she needs to know, and introduce her to people."
Selene glance at the boy next to her and as she did he looked over at her with a smile that made her blush a little.
"Sure," He replied kindly. "I can do that."
Principal Spark nodded. "Good. Well, Selene, I hope everything goes well for you. If you ever need anything let me know and visit my office. I know that it can be hard being the new kid, but I think you will be fine."
Selene nodded feeling that he sincerely meant what he said. He was a nice principal. "Thanks," He said.
"Alright, Selene it's time for a grand tour," Ash said as if he had been ordered to complete an important mission.
Selene nodded with a smile. "Lead the way."
