[88] - Stray
If you ever wanna know what writing is like then just imagine forgetting if cats use he/she pronouns or just 'it' and also religiously using the sites dictionary.com and thesaurus.com + staring at the screen for ten straight minutes, failing to remember a word
Warnings: mentions of animal cruelty I suppose, hint at having experienced past homophobia, use of the word 'bruise' once, this makes it sound bad but it's all fluff

When his boyfriend burst the door to their apartment open, scaring Logan half to death (mind you, Logan had been sitting in the quiet while solving a crossword puzzle before this happened) and then ran into the room with tears in his eyes Logan immediately thought of several horrible things that might have happened to him.
Logan had shot up from his spot on the couch and in an instant he'd been in front of Virgil, hands on his shoulders and eyes searching for any sign of injury or whatever was the reason for his tears, because he was very aware of the cruelty they might experience, it had happened to them both before.
But instead of any bruise or tear in Virgil's clothes his eyes fell upon a tiny fluffy thing that Virgil was holding in his arms. He took a step back, uncertain what was going on or what he should be doing.
"Virgil, what ...is that?" He said, giving the creature a glance. It had orange fur and was very small. Virgil had it practically hidden in his hoodie and it was hard to see what kind of animal it was.
"It's a stray kitten." Virgil said with a sniffle, wiping his face against his shoulder, as well as he could while holding the kitten.
"And why are you holding a kitten?" Logan asked carefully. He could definitely guess where this was going, and he did not know what to do about it, nor did he have any idea how to face this situation.
"I found her in a box in an alley. Look how small she is! She won't survive long out there, someone most likely abandoned her. She was just left there to fight for her life!" New tears welled up in Virgil's eyes. Logan wondered how Virgil could tell that the kitten was a 'her'. He had probably checked.
"We need to take care of her." Virgil continued, finally telling him what Logan knew he'd wanted to say the second he came through the door. Logan looked at him doubtfully. Neither of them had ever owned any pets. The few houseplants they had were barely hanging onto life (and Logan realized he should really water them soon), and he was unsure if they should be responsible for anything more complicated than a cactus.
"Virgil." Logan started.
"Logan." Virgil said defensively.
"Could we not leave her to an animal shelter and give her the chance to be adopted by a family who knows how to care for an animal?" Logan asked, and by the way Virgil immediately frowned Logan knew he didn't like that suggestion even a little bit.
"Absolutely not! If she doesn't get adopted, and there's a big chance of that, they will put her down. And if we leave her on the street who knows what will happen? Some gross gang of kids might find it fun to kill her. Or maybe another animal will kill her. Or she'll starve, or not have anything to drink..."
Virgil stared at him with a pout and (what their friend Roman would call) puppy-dog eyes that could rival Roman's boyfriend Patton's. Logan sighed. He could not say no when Virgil looked at him like that, it was impossible. He also got the feeling that Virgil would be terribly upset if he would have to abandon the kitten.
"You are aware of how much responsibility is required to adopt a pet?" He questioned meekly, knowing very well that Virgil must have thought this through very well before coming to him. Logan also knew he was going to give in, after all he had never really been opposed to the thought of pets. They had just never discussed it before.
Virgil nodded furiously. Logan was sure he was already planning what brand of cat food they should buy and the color of the cat toys.
"I... well, fine." Logan said with the tiniest of sighs, not that he really minded. Virgil stared at him momentarily.
"Really?" He said, as if he had not at all been sure Logan would actually agree to this. Logan gave him a nod and Virgil immediately smiled brightly and made a sound of barely contained excitement.
Logan couldn't help but to smile at the scene. Virgil was practically bouncing while holding the tiny orange kitten in his arms. It was difficult for Logan to look away from his wide smile and how he carefully hugged the kitten, so he didn't and instead just stared fondly at him until Virgil noticed.
"Stop looking at me like that, you sap. And meet our kitten!" Virgil said, holding the animal up right in front of Logan's face. He took a small step back and then carefully petted the kittens small head. She started purring and Virgil then handed her over to Logan who now worried that he was going to drop her. He did not trust that old saying about cats always landing on their feet, Virgil had shown him too many videos of cats failing to do so.
He stared the kitten right in her eyes.
"Right. Please do not break our favorite cups, and if you take all of Virgil's attention from me you're out on the street again." He said, making Virgil giggle and lightly push at his arm.
"That's dumb." He said with a grin. Logan stuck his tongue out, not bothering with a verbal response.
"Virgil, the kitten needs a name, does she not?" He then said and Virgil let out an almost gasp, most likely ransacking his brain for good names.
"How about Nugget?" Virgil said, and Logan just gave him a confused stare. He could not see the purpose of naming a kitten after a food. Also she did not look like 'Nugget' fit her. Virgil just rolled his eyes at him.
"Okay, but how about Lucifer? Snert? Dark Overlord?" Virgil said. Logan was beginning to think his boyfriend spent just a little too much time on tumblr.
Logan also realized this first challenge was probably going to take a while.
