[48] - Experiment Gone Wrong

Ok, but I feel like Logan would do something like this

In which Logan uses an experiment to figure out how Virgil feels for him, which might not have been the brightest idea since he ended up being as insensitive and clueless as always.

Warnings: swearing, misunderstanding, hurt feelings

Don't worry, happy ending as always

--

"Virgil I need your help with an experiment." Logan said the moment he found Virgil. He was sitting on the couch, scrolling on his phone with a bored expression.

"Sure. It's not like I have something better to do." Virgil said, throwing his phone onto the couch he sat on.

"Don't agree before you hear the experiment, it's... not like the others you have helped me with."

"What is it?" Virgil asked cautiously.

"Well, remember that you can say no and I will not be upset at all. But I have found myself wondering what it is that is so special about kissing and I would like to do an experiment on, well, kissing." He finishes, pretending that he did not hear how Virgil breathed in sharply. He knew that Virgil looked at him differently than the others did. And he wanted proof for how he suspected that Virgil felt for him.

He had a general clue about Virgil's feelings for him, so he was going to propose this experiment to find out if Virgil felt for him in the way he thought. And he also wanted to kiss Virgil, the thought of it made him nervous, in a good way. And an experiment was the only way he knew how to do something like this.

"Alright." Virgil said, only sounding slightly hesitant, it was mostly cancelled out by the eager look in his eyes.

"Excellent." Logan said, smiling politely. Then he decided that there was no use in wasting time, he should just get right to conducting his experiment. He placed one hand on Virgil's cheek, and the other on his chest. That way he could feel if Virgil's heartbeat changed.

He leaned in, pressing their lips together. There was a slightly awkward nervousness at first where neither of them were sure what to do, or how to proceed, but then that worry melted away. Their lips fit so well, and Logan loved the way they moved together.

He gently pushed Virgil back before it became all too much. He opened his eyes, looking into Virgil's and feeling his heartbeat beneath his fingers. He took a moment to calm down his own heart and make sure he still had his voice before speaking.

"As expected, your pupils are dilated and your heartbeat have sped up." Logan said. It caused the dazed expression on Virgil's face to be replaced by a frown. He stepped backwards, almost flinching away from him.

"What?!" Virgil exclaimed, his tone sharp and he showed an expression of hurt that Logan did not really understand.

"The experiment, it gave me the last bits of evidence that I needed to be able to confirm that you indeed have feelings for me." Logan said triumphantly, proud over having gotten the wanted result. But Virgil did not seem to share his opinion on that.

"You- you can't just-" Virgil said, sounding angry, which actually caused Logan to feel thoroughly confused. Then Virgil turned around on the spot, hurriedly making his way out of the room.

Logan just stared after him, sitting down on the couch with a sigh. That did not go ideally.

--

Not even ten minutes passed before an angry Patton marched into the room, right up to Logan and pulled him up from the couch.

Patton gripped his shoulders, steering him into the kitchen and sat him down on a chair. Then he sat down on the opposite side of the table, next to Roman who was already there.

"What did you do to my so- Virgil?" He said, looking sternly at him. It made him feel as if he was a child who had been caught breaking a window, or like he was being interrogated for a crime he had done, which was strange considering that he had no experience with either of those things.

"Have I upset him?" It was clear that Virgil was upset, but he still wasn't sure of Virgil's reaction or what it meant.

"Yes! He rushed past me before locking himself in his room, and anyone with a working brain could see that he was very upset. And he wouldn't tell me what was wrong, but he came from the same room I found you in, so you must've done something." Patton said.

"I do not understand!" Logan exclaimed. "Why is he upset with me?"

"I don't know, what did you do?" Patton asked and Logan explained his 'experiment', what it was he wanted to find out, and what the purpose of it all was. When he had done that Roman and Patton just stared at him, which in itself was telling him that what he had done was dumb.

"Surely you know how that was hurtful?!" Roman asked, sounding perplexed at Logan's stupidity.

"No, no I do not understand. Please enlighten me." Logan almost begged, leaning his head in his hands.

"Oh Logan," Patton said, shaking his head, "you led Virgil on, making him think it was just an experiment when it actually was something more than that. You used his vulnerability for you in an attempt to understand his feelings before he was ready to let you know about them. And, I assume that you did not really clarify that you like him too? Which means that he probably feels like you are either making fun of him or just being cruel."

Logan just stared at Patton, thinking over what he had said and realizing that that made a lot of sense. He really was awful at everything involving feelings.

"Oh." Was all he said, looking down at the table.

"Logan, even you must know that that was not a smart thing to do." Roman said in disbelief. Logan frowned at him.

"I didn't mean to-" Logan muttered. "I am doing my best, no matter what you might think. And it is not fair to compare my understanding of emotions and feelings to your understanding of them. The two of you know far more about these kinds of things than l do. I did not intend to do any harm, the last thing I want to do is hurt him." Logan said, hearing himself how distressed he sounds.

"Why did you not just tell him how you feel for him?"

"Without being certain of what his answer would be? No, that... I do not want him to know how I feel for him before I know how he feels for me."

"And Virgil did not want you to know how he felt before he knew how you felt for him." Patton said calmly and slowly as if he was explaining something very simple to someone very dumb. To be fair that was accurate when it came to Logan and emotions. He had them, he did not really understand them.

"Maybe you should go and explain all of this to Virgil, and not to us." Roman said, and Patton nodded encouragingly.

"Yes, you need to talk to Virgil, that is the only way for you to resolve this." Patton told him. Knowing the two right brain traits were right he stood up and began walking towards Virgil's room.

"And Logan," Patton called after him, making him turn around, "if you hurt my son again I will come after you."

Logan did not think Patton was joking even in the slightest.

--

He knocked on the dark purple door that led to Virgil's room, hoping that Virgil was there. He was.

"Patton, I told you, I don't want to talk." Came Virgil's voice from inside the room. Logan hesitated for a second before talking. There was no use in postponing this, he certainly could not make things worse.

"It is not Patton, it is I, Logan. I wish to speak to you." Logan said, waiting for an answer. It was silent for almost a whole minute before Virgil spoke up again.

"No." He said, and Logan sighed sadly. It was what he had expected, but not the answer he had wanted. He leaned against the door, guessing that if he was going to have a conversation with Virgil it was through the door.

"Please, let me explain myself. Patton and Roman informed me that I was unkind and stupid, but I truly did not mean to cause you any hurt." Logan huffed, hoping that Virgil would at least give him a chance to explain himself. Virgil let out a short laugh, not sounding like there was anything fun about the situation.

"You're so... you're so insensitive." Virgil said loudly, his voice cracking, and Logan could hear from the state of his voice that he was, or had recently been, crying. It made his heart hurt to think that he really had caused Virgil pain.

"That is a statement I cannot deny, but I'd like to say that it really is not my intention to be insensitive. I was not attempting to hurt you. I was merely trying to come to a conclusion about the nature of your feelings towards me. I was unaware of the fact that it was a very unkind thing to do. I apologize." He admitted,

"But why would you even do that?" Virgil questioned.

"You can't just experiment with people's feelings like that!" He continued, sniffling. Logan stared at the floor in shame, despite Virgil not even seeing him.

"I did it because I did not want to tell you about my feelings for you before I knew that they were reciprocated." He said, and once again Virgil was silent for a while. Then the door, that Logan had been leaning against, opened. He stumbled, thankfully not falling to the floor. He stood up straight, looking right at the other side. Virgil had his arms crossed tightly over his chest, his mouth was a thin line and the way his eyeshadow was smudged told him that Virgil really had been crying.

"I'm sorry." He said truthfully.

"You're an asshole." Virgil said with a pout.

"Am I allowed to hug you?" Logan asked, uncertain on how to proceed but really wanting to do something that'd make Virgil feel better. Virgil stepped in closer, leaning against him and allowing Logan to embrace him.

"You're not forgiven yet." He mumbled into Logan's shoulder, but he did not sound hurt or angry anymore which Logan took as a good sign. Then, after several minutes of silence Virgil spoke up again.

"Did you really mean what you said? You have feelings for me too?" He asked silently, a nervous undertone in his voice.

"I do hold romantic feelings for you. And I can assure you that I would never lie about such a thing, even I know that that would be beyond cruel." Logan mumbled, pressing his lips to Virgil's temple.

"...Good." Virgil said, finally hugging Logan back. Logan hoped that meant Virgil was going to forgive him soon. He made a mental note to ask someone for advice if he was ever going to do something involving feelings ever again. He never wanted to be the source of Virgil's hurt again.

"I promise to not do something as stupid as this again." He mumbled.

"Considering how well you understand feelings and how other people work... yeah, good luck." Virgil said, even laughing a little.

"I hope you will tell me if I ever am insensitive." Logan said, really hoping that Virgil would do that so that there was less of a chance that Logan would do something like this again.

"I will." Virgil said, hugging Logan just a little bit tighter when he once again kissed him on his temple.

Eyy I love writing, makes me feel g o o d

I write a lot about kissing for someone who has never kissed anyone and doesn't even know how to kiss.

Btw, in swedish "kiss" means pee, sorry for ruining the word.
