[32] - Attention
Is it just me who sometimes doesn't hear someone speaking to me? Well... I can hear them say something and I'll hum in response but a minute later my brain will register that someone spoke to me and I'll be like "wait did you say something?" because I wasn't actually aware of the fact that they spoke to me even though I heard it and responded automatically. Just me?
Summary: Logan is like me and doesn't realize someone's talking to him
--
"Hey Logan, wanna do something?" Virgil said, walking up to Logan who was typing away on his computer. He had been sat there for hours and by the length of the text it looked like he was writing a damn essay. What he was writing about Virgil didn't know, Logan hadn't told him. What he did know was that he was bored.
"Hmm." That was the short reply Virgil got, he didn't even look away from the screen and it sounded very absentminded. Virgil walked up to him, standing behind him and looking over his shoulder at what he was doing.
"But I don't know what I want to do though." Virgil said, trying to think over the options. He was bored and wanted to do something but he had no idea what. Watching tv didn't seem entertaining. He couldn't decide on a book to read, even his favorites seemed dull. He had already been on tumblr for two hours.
Logan hummed again while quickly typing out more words on the keyboard, the text on the screen reflecting in his glasses.
"Are you even listening to me?" He asked, frowning at Logan. It sure didn't seem like he was and honestly, it kind of hurt.
"Hmm."
"Patton killed Roman." Virgil lied and observed Logan to see if he got a reaction out of him. He didn't. Was he purposely ignoring him? That did not seem like something that Logan would do, but of course his anxiety fueled thoughts completely disregarded any sense.
"That's lovely." Logan mumbled, clicking on the keyboard.
Great. That's just great, Virgil thought. Not even his boyfriend wanted to talk to him. Maybe he was just bothering Logan. He should leave him alone since he clearly wasn't interested in Virgil's company. He left Logan alone with his computer, Virgil could just as well keep reblogging semi-humorous Tumblr posts for a few more hours.
A minute later Logan suddenly snapped out of his deep concentration and looked up from his computer screen, turning around and looking out over his empty room. He thought his brain registered that someone said something. Apparently he was wrong because there was no one there who could've spoken.
And he wasn't really sure if he should trust his mind when it came to hearing people talk since he sometimes thought he heard someone say something to him when no one actually had spoken. Especially if there was music playing, then his mind could trick him to think that someone called his name, his phone was ringing or even that the doorbell rang. This was in the mindscape. There was no doorbell.
So he just shrugged, disregarding the thought and went back to working, he wanted to finish this before taking a break.

When Logan decided to take a break around lunchtime he realized that he hadn't seen Virgil all day, which was strange because he was usually around a lot. He was aware that Virgil worried a little about being clingy but to be completely honest Logan liked it. It made him feel wanted and he did not understand why anyone would be annoyed by someone liking being around them.
Maybe he should go check up on him, just to make sure that he was alright. Logan decided that that was indeed a good idea and left his room to do just that. He knocked on the door to his boyfriends room, letting himself in when Virgil's voice told him to do so.
"Virgil dear, I haven't seen you in a while. Are you alright?" Logan asked with concern. The only time Virgil hid in his room was when he was anxious or when he felt hurt. Since he started feeling more accepted by the others he had started to sit with his computer on the couch instead of in his bedroom.
Strangely enough Virgil frowned when he saw him. Uh oh, had he done something wrong? He really needed to get better at this whole relationship thing, there were so many things he was uncertain about. Like what to do when your boyfriend seems upset with you and you do not know why.
"You didn't seem like you wanted me around so I stayed away." Virgil mumbled quietly and started fiddling with a little piece of thread that had loosened from his shirt sleeve.
"That's preposterous, why would I not want you around?" Logan said, confused to why Virgil would ever believe such a thing.
"I tried to talk to you but you weren't listening to me." He said, moving a few inches away from Logan when he sat down next to him.
"You did?" So someone had spoken to him. But he hadn't realized until Virgil had left. He resisted the urge to hide his face in his hands, why is he like this? Why does he become so engulfed in what he is doing that his brain practically shuts off all other functions?
"You care more about your computer than about me." Virgil pouted and looked away.
"I can assure you that that is not the case. I would burn my computer in a second if you told me to." Logan could see what might be the hint of a smile on Virgil's face at that statement.
"I sincerely apologize if I made you feel unwanted, it was not my meaning to do so." He took his hand and squeezed it gently, relieved that Virgil let him. "It won't happen again, I always have time for you."
Finally Virgil looked at him and Logan was pleased to see that he didn't look sad anymore. "Will you forgive me?"
"Depends. Will you give me loads of attention?" Virgil asked, raising a brow as if he questioned if Logan dared to say yes.
"I'll give you my attention until you get tired of being around me." He lifted Virgil's hand up and kissed the back off it. Virgil chuckled, which he hoped was a good sign.
"Good luck, I'm clingy." Logan just smiled and kissed Virgil's cheek.
"Good luck to you, I'm persistent."
"And since my brain doesn't always fully recognize that someone is speaking to me when I am concentrating on something, try jabbing your fingers in my side, it will surely work." He continued, pointing at the part of the body that he was speaking of.
"Like this?" Virgil smirked and before Logan realized what Virgil meant he was poked by him. He jerked away from him which made Virgil laugh. Now if that hadn't been so wonderful to see he'd have been annoyed.
"I love you, but that is only for when I'm not already paying attention to you. Okay?" He said, holding up his hands in surrender. If this turned into him being tickled he would regret telling Virgil that he could do that to get his attention.
"Fine, love you too. Now cuddle me while I nap." Virgil said and leaned against Logan who looked at his wristwatch to confirm the time.
"It's 11:30 am." He declared, confused to why Virgil would need a nap when he probably just woke up 3 hours ago and most likely had not done much during that time except for being online. It was actually quite impressive to him that Virgil could take a nap at any moment of the day.
"Time isn't real." He mumbled as a reply and Logan just couldn't help but to smile. That might be a statement you could debate the truth of, but Virgil was so cute while resting his head on his shoulder so he just wrapped an arm around him to hold him in place.
And to say if Virgil ever did have to poke Logan's side to get his attention when he got fully absorbed into his work, who knows. (I do know, he did. And once Logan ended up falling off his chair and Virgil got cramps from laughing so hard.)
