Planet Earth was playing on the tv, Logan has a difficult sudoku in his hand and his boyfriend's head in his lap. They've had dinner and with the narrator talking about squirrels in the background Logan's eyes search for any numbers that would fit into the puzzle. It's not anything special about he evening, and it's calm, and Logan loves it.
The volume on the tv is low, Logan had lowered it after realizing that Virgil had fallen asleep, he didn't want to wake him when he looked to be so peaceful. He must have been tired, Logan knew Virgil hadn't slept well last night, and he had been at work all day, the nap was certainly well deserved.
He let his pencil lay on the couch cushion next to him, instead slowly running his hand through Virgil's hair as he tried to place any sevens into the still empty squares of his sudoku. He isn't having any use for his hand anyway since no numbers seem to fit anywhere as far as Logan can tell, yet, and Virgil mumbles in his sleep and shifts slightly, head pressing into Logan's hand as if he's subconsciously asking Logan to continue.
Logan's forgotten about the sudoku and the documentary about squirrels that's still playing on the tv in mere seconds. His attention has been stolen by his boyfriend who was still sleeping soundly, his hands were covered by the sleeves of his beloved hoodie, and his feet were resting on one of the decorative pillows on the couch even though Logan keeps scolding him for doing so.
"I love you, so much." He murmurs, knowing Virgil won't hear him but not caring. Virgil already knows, and Logan knows Virgil loves him too. Logan doesn't receive a response, of course not, Virgil is still just as asleep as before.
If Logan didn't fear accidentally waking Virgil up he would've bent down and kissed him, instead he turned his focus back to his sudoku, now and then getting distracted by Virgil or the tv.
He carefully untangled his fingers from Virgil's hair, grabbing his pencil and finally adding a number into the sudoku, which in turn made Logan figure out where several more numbers fitted in. Virgil moved a bit and his lap, making Logan look down at him.
Virgil frowned, eyes opening a smidge and he blinked up at Logan for a moment before he groaned, rolled over and pressed his face into Logan's stomach. Logan smiled, continuing to play with Virgil's hair and before long Virgil seemed to have fallen back asleep.
It was ridiculous to sit there and smile down at his boyfriend, but Logan simply could not help it. Sure, there was absolutely nothing special about tonight. There was nothing special about their activities, and there was nothing special about anything that was happening.
And yet this evening was so very precious to Logan. Maybe it was the fact that it wasn't anything significant about any part of their evening that made it so extraordinary. Just the fact that this was Logan's life, cooking dinners together, cuddling on the couch, waking up next to each other, living with someone that made him this happy... that's what made it so extraordinary.
That all these things that shouldn't be anything exciting were suddenly things Logan enjoyed and looked forward to. Virgil being there with him caused all the ordinary day to day tasks to somehow not be that dull anymore. Logan would be the most blessed person alive if he had Virgil with him for the rest of his life, Logan could ask for nothing more, and wanted nothing else.
And maybe it's that insight that makes Logan decide, in that very moment, that he is going to ask Virgil to marry him.
