ACT TWO
(successful confessions)
VERONÍCA SHOVED a few cans of food into her bag. While she had been sent to get the non-perishable foods when her eyes caught onto something, she was pulled away from the task at hand.
She picked up the item, smiling as she flipped through it. There was a hello kitty coloring book as well as a marvel coloring book.
Veroníca assumed it was fate seeing as her son and his newfound close friend had loved the subjects. So she didn't hesitate to shove the books into her bag as well.
As soon as she did, she grabbed a can of peanut butter before ultimately leaving the aisle. Pressing her hand onto the walkie talkie button. "I secured some coloring books. Copy."
"I found a camera, you want to do a photoshoot when we get back? Also, when you finish your sentence you say over—not copy.. Over."
Veroníca aimlessly wandered around, speaking into the walkie talkie. "Glenn Rhee. How do you know so much walkie-talkie lingo? Were you in a walkie talkie club?"
There was a brief pause, a smile appearing on Veroníca face when Glenn's voice came through the speaker again. "There's no walkie talkie club, Vee. It's called boy scouts. Over and Out."
"No way. You were in boy scouts?"
"Over and Out." Glenn repeated, though Veroníca could hear the bashful smile in his voice.
Before the woman could pester him any more, her eyes caught onto Sasha's. Who seemed to be walking over to her.
She stopped in her tracks, her smile staying on her face when Sasha reached her. "Did you get your list?"
Veroníca nodded, waving her bag around while Sasha continued. "Great—that's great.. Hey, can you go keep an eye on Bob?"
Veroníca seemed confused by the new task but ultimately agreed, leaving to find Bob.
-
When the woman found Bob he had been examining a bottle of wine, she watched him intently as he read over the label in silence.
Veroníca who ended up feeling awkward just staring, made her way to stand beside the man. "Wray and Nephew. Gross. You gotta try this."
The woman then pulled a Johnnie Walker, Blue Label, off of the shelf. Handing it to Bob while she took the bottle with the red label away.
He examined the bottle, glancing up at the woman with untrusting eyes.
"C'mon, Bobby. I know what i'm talking about." Veroníca insisted, placing the red labelled wine back onto the shelf. A little harder than she would've liked.
As soon as she did the shelf fell downwards, taking multiple other shelves with it.
Before either of the two could make a remark towards the event, when the entire bookcase of wine began falling towards them they stepped into action.
They both placed their hands on the shelf, ultimately failing as it had pushed them backwards. Onto the floor.
"Fuck." Veroníca groaned, feeling the broken bottles and wine all around her.
She knew the wine would stain her clothes, as well as leave a few bruises but she didn't worry about it at the moment.
The bookshelf was still on top of the duo, laying on Bob's foot as well as trapping the two underneath it.
Due to the current adrenaline that ran through the woman's veins, she had a hard time feeling the cuts that littered her body. Caused by the shattered glass all around her.
A flashlight then shined to the side of them, making them look over at Daryl. "You guys okay? You cut or somethin'?"
While Veroníca shook her head, Bob verbally replied. "No, man, but my foot is caught."
Daryl nodded, glancing at the many cuts over Veroníca's as he did so.
While he would've had her come out, seeing as she wasn't caught like Bob. he figured it'd be best if she stayed under until they moved the shelf. Not wanting any more cuts to appear on his friend. "Just stay still."
Daryl then pulled away from the opening, speaking to Tyreese as well as Zack. "All right, he's just caught. Come on, help me up."
The duo beside him immediately listened, helping their friend lift the bookshelf as Glenn's yell filled the air from afar. "What happened?"
"Everyone's all right. We're over in wine and beer." Tyreese yelled back.
They then lifted the first half of the shelf, freeing Veroníca before beginning to walk over to the second half. The one that still laid over Bob.
Tyreese and Bob shared a few words while Veroníca felt herself growing lightheaded.
While her cuts were small, the amount of cuts and the blood that dripped out of them equalled a good amount of blood loss.
The adrenaline began slowing down in the woman's body. Thankfully before she noticed the cuts, a loud crashed filled the air. Followed alongside a sudden bright light.
Veroníca squinted at the light, glancing up at the source as she did so.
A walker had seemingly fell out of the sky, now hanging onto the roof. The only thing holding him on being his bloody organs.
Veroníca cringed at the sight, not being able to pull her eyes away as she did so.
"Yeah, uh—we should probably go now." Glenn mumbled from his new spot. Him and Sasha standing a little way away from the other members of the group.
"Bob's still stuck. Get him outta there." Daryl commanded, mostly speaking to Tyreese.
Before the group could act, more bangs filled the air. Followed with much more sunlight, as well as snarling.
The group began running around the store as holes appeared in the roof, they weren't sure why so many walkers were falling through. They also didn't have much time to think about it.
Adrenaline began picking up in Veroníca again, the woman's head bolting back and forth as she found a vacant aisle.
As she did she pulled out her gun, she wasn't the best shot but she knew her throwing knives wouldn't be as much help to her. Not now.
As if on cue, a walker fell through the ceiling behind her.
When its blood splattered on the ground, Veroníca held back the bile in her throat. Aiming her gun at the creature.
When the walker sat up, Veroníca shot through its head. Thankful for the walker being close up, seeing as it was easier to aim.
Her mind seemed to ignore the loud gunfire that sounded through the air, as well as the snarling that followed.
Yet, when a loud Hey! echoed through the aisle, Veroníca quickly remembered Bob.
She rounded the corner, running towards where Bob had been when she had seen him last.
As she reached him, she was shocked to see a walker crawling towards him.
The walker looked terrifying, its head split halfway down the middle, snarling loudly as it made its way closer to the man.
Bob tried backing up, not getting very far due to the large shelf on his leg.
At this, Veroníca stepped in. Screaming at Bob as she did so. "Back up!" Bob complied, backing up as much as he could while she began stomping the creature's head in. Seeming to forget the weapon in her hand.
Blood splattered through the air, covering Veroníca's already-dirty boot. The woman continued stomping, feeling her boot break the soft, rotten skull bone.
She ignored the disgusting sensation, slamming her foot down on the walker's head a few more times.
When she had finally removed her boot, a large pile of brains and blood was left in it's spot. Pale, rotten skin laying flat against the floor.
The woman was disgusted by the sight, trying her best to ignore it as she looked back at Bob.
While the smell of corpse's filled her nose, she was thankful when Daryl and Zack had joined her side.
They immediately starting lifting the shelf, trying their best to ignore the roof that was slowly caving inwards.
Veroníca started helping lifting the shelf as well, pausing briefly when Zack starting screaming.
Bob had now slipped out, also watching as the walker bit into the flesh of the younger boy's calf.
"Zack!"
The woman furrowed her eyebrows at the sight, the group now watching collectively as the walker moved up to sink its teeth into his neck.
They knew there was nothing the could do to help, but they couldn't help but feel terrible for the boy who was being eaten alive in front of them.
Veroníca's mind flashed back for a moment, remembering T-dog's very similar death.
Thankfully she couldn't think about it for long, seeing as Daryl began urging them out of the building. The roof caving in even more as he did so. "Go! Go!"
As the group began running out of the store, they didn't look back as a large helicopter fell through the roof. Landing where they had left Zack.

Veroníca and Rory sat on the bottom bed of her and Glenn's shared bunk. Hershel currently had taken a stool from the eating area, using it to sit across from the woman.
She had showered once she got back, but when Aiden had noticed the cuts littered throughout her body; He insisted she get it checked out by one of the Doctors in the group.
She didn't think it was that big of a deal, Hershel didn't either but he did decide to wrap a few of the bigger ones. Insisting on the saying 'Better safe than Sorry.'
While Hershel stayed mostly silent, Rory was sure to make up for his silence. Going on and on about his day. "So—so then we went to book club and uh—it went good."
"Yeah? I wish I could've made it."
"Carol said she missed you helping her—but Carl actually joined us this time and—and he and Carol spoke.." Rory trailed off, his mother immediately catching on to what he meant.
Carol and Veroníca's book club was a secret for a reason. While they were glad they could help the kids with actual issues, they were also glad Rick didn't know about it.
Carl finding out meant that Rick would probably find out. Which made the sides of Veroníca's smile tug downwards. "Oh.. What'd he think? I know he thinks book clubs are for babies."
"Well—I don't think he liked it.." Rory replied, still speaking in code due to the fact that Hershel was still occupying them in the room.
Veroníca nodded at this, not bothering to reply as she winced, seeing as the man poured a liquid onto one of her cuts.
Hershel noticed her reaction, placing the alcohol bottle down as he spoke. "Sorry about that. This one is bigger than the others, i'm surprised you don't need stitches.. How'd you say this happened, again?"
"Wine display. Maybe it's God's way of getting mad at us for trying to drink during.. all of this."
Veroníca didn't believe in God, but she also didn't want to discourage her friends who did believe. After all, she use to. She just didn't know how a good God could let this happen to his people. Whether they be good people or not.
"Maybe you're right. He does have a strange way of punishing us sometimes." Hershel replied, wrapping a white bandage around Veroníca's thigh.
Once he finished wrapping the bandage, he patted her leg in a fatherly manner. Smiling softly at the woman. "All done."
"Thank you, Hershel."
"Anytime, Veroníca. Though, maybe try not to hurt yourself next time."
Veroníca lightly laughed at his joke, using her hand to playfully gesture the man off.
Hershel chuckled at this, standing up to make his way out of the cell. Just as he did so Glenn replaced his spot, a nervous smile on his face.
There was a brief silence, Veroníca placing a kiss on Rory's cheek before speaking. "You, go brush your teeth. Tell Andre and Carl I said goodnight."
"Okay. Goodnight, Mama. Night Glenn." Rory spoke playfully glaring at the man when he ruffled his hair.
Rory then exited the cell, his voice echoing through the cellblock as he called after Andre; who he must've seen from afar.
When the kid was gone, Glenn took his former spot. Sitting beside Veroníca as a silence overtook the room. "What's the matter, Glenn?"
"On the run today, when you and Bob were trapped—I haven't felt that type of fear in a long time, Veroníca."
"You know, you're cute when you worry about me." Veroníca replied, playfully pinching Glenn's cheek.
Glenn smiled bashfully at this, his smile dropping as he pulled Veroníca's hand down. He still kept her hand in his, pausing for a moment as he pondered his next words.
After a few more moments of silence, Glenn finally spoke back up. This time avoiding eye-contact, seriousness still in his voice. "Yeah.. I was thinking about it, you know.. The last time I was that nervous was when—when we went to the pharmacy. When the walker came at you..." Glenn trailed off, a hint of sadness behind his eyes. "And I thought about it—thought about what I was doing.. What i've been doing—Veroníca—I've—i've been hiding liking you for so long and I don't think I can do that anymore."
Veroníca furrowed her eyebrows for a second, Glenn finally looking back up to make eye contact with the woman.
She didn't reply, she knew the man had more to say, so she let him continue.
"I really like you, Veroníca. I like just about everything about you and—and I don't know why I haven't told you sooner. I guess——I don't know.. I just I needed you to know. We could all be dead tomorrow, if—if I didn't get to tell you how I felt before then-then I don't know, I just—"
"Glenn."
"Yes?" Glenn immediately shut himself up when she said his name. Hopimg she'd say something to make him stop rambling. Whether that meant confessing as well, or if that meant she denied his feelings. Either way he wanted her to say something.
"Can I kiss you?"
Glenn immediately began nodding his head, unaware just how fast-pace his head nods were.
Veroníca held back a laugh at his eager nodding, pulling Glenn's head toward her.
At first she placed a very quick kiss on his lips, which didn't last long seeing as he immediately pulled her back towards him. Placing a much longer kiss on her lips.
Their kiss was put to an end as he pulled away for a moment. Their faces were still extremely close, meaning he mumbled his next words against her lips. "Did I just kiss you?"
Veroníca hummed in response, smiling which only grew wider at Glenn's next words. "Can I do it again?" She nodded, a little confused when he then pulled further away at her words.
He examined her face for a moment, his smile growing before he moved back in. "God, you are so beautiful." He mumbled before beginning to pepper kisses all over Veroníca's face.
Glenn adored Veroníca. He adored everything about her, from the new kisses to the very familiar hugs.
He knew his liking for the woman would grow quickly, after all, every second with the woman seemed to make his feelings grow even more.
Thankfully, Glenn Rhee could genuinely say he was fine with it. In fact, he wanted to fall in love with Veroníca Hayes.
Maybe it was the current bliss talking, but he had hoped she would eventually fall in love with him. Seeing as he was sure it wouldn't be long 'til he fell in love with her.
