Capítulo 4 - The Unexpected Visit

Olga continues with her mouth open without reaction, and suddenly starts to say a series of phrases like: "It's going to be  a catastrophe", "Now it's all going down", "Let's hide, the house will come down". Angie doesn't know what to do, Clara continues to cry and Olga continues in her delirium, and she can not calm either one of them. Suddenly Ramalho arrives, and Angie feels a little less alone in the midst of that chaos, at least someone can try to calm down Olga. Seeing all that confusion, Ramalho tries to understand what is happening, he looks at Angie then at Olga without knowing who to rescue first. He decides to go and meet Olga trying to calm her down; this one continues to say loose and meaningless sentences "He arrived, Ramalho", "Let's go, we better hide", "No, let's travel. Yes, yes that's it. "," Come on, we'll pack, I have to make everyone backs ", " It's going to be bad, will not it? Yes, it is","He arrived, He arrived ..." ... Ramalho tries without many results to bring Olga to reality.

Angie continues to try to calm Clarita, who continues to cry, as if sensing everything Olga said. Germen enters in that moment, and feels as lost as Ramalho in the middle of that confusion, not realizing well what happened; however, realizing that Ramalho was trying to calm Olga and that with some effort had convinced her to go to the kitchen to drink a tea, he went to Angie who has a completely despair face.

- Angie, what's going on? What happened to Olga? And Clara ... what's the matter with her...what's the matter with you my little one? - Germen looks to Angie and feels that she was at the break of letting go of that tension that she was building up.

- Germen! I don't know ... I don't know anything... a "Man" came ... He wanted to talk to you ... then he saw my mother ... he wanted to expel her from this house, but I don't know why...

Angie was so nervous that she said it all so quickly and in a voice so shaken that little or almost nothing was noticeable, however, Germen let her calm down a little before insisting again.

- Angie, please calm down ... I could not understand nothing of what you said.

- He tried to expulse my mother! Then I realized that my mom knew him and then they left, Olga froze when she saw him and then screamed. And I can not get Clarita to calm down and stop crying.

- Angie calm yourself a little... take a deep breath and try to calm down. - And when he tell's her that, he tries to make her sit down a little and guide her to the couch, kissing her forehead and face, trying to calm her down.

- Calm me down Germen? My mother left here with a "Man" who I do not know who he is, I can not get Clara to stop crying and Olga keeps saying those things. And you want me to calm down?

As soon as she had finished speaking, she began to cry more because she was so nervous then because she was sad, than she hug Gérmen, who in the meantime had already had Clara in his lap, who as soon as she senses herself in his father's arms, calmed down at once, she felt hugest by someone more serene, so she was feeling safer and that nothing would happen to her.

- Angie you have to be calm, please try it for Clara; why don't you go lie down for a while, try ... to rest ... Clara needs you calm.

- How can I calm down, I do not know where my mother went with that "Man" who in the time that was here only offended us.

- Angie, please, I need to figure out what happened, but first I need you to calm down.

- I'm calm ...- but Angie shivered and tears streamed down her face. - I'm calm ...

- Come on, I'll take you to the room, you'll lie down a little, ok...

- Germen, I need to figure this out ...

- I promise you I'll find out everything, but first I need you to calm down. Clara is feeling all this tension that it's going on around her, and you're very nervous ... she's feeling, so I need you to calm down for her ... - and so he finally manages to convince her to go to the bedroom, and they go upstairs, as soon as she lies down and reassures herself a bit, he tells her that he was going down stairs to figure it out what had happened, Angie only tells him that she was worried about her mother, and nervous about the whole situation and furious with the attitude of that "Man" and felt that only Germen could calm her down.

- I will not be long, I'll just see if I can talk to Olga; and try to understand what happened, I'll be right back ... - Germen leaves her lying down, kisses her, and goes to the kitchen with Clara in her lap who has stopped crying and was almost falling asleep.

When he arrived in the kitchen, he met Vilu and Leon, who had arrived to pick up some sheets of music that was with Angie and needed to give to Pablo to his next class in the Studio. However, when they arrive they face a completely trancelike Olga, saying things that nobody understands. Gradually the three of them manage to calm her down enough to realize what had happened.

So when Germen enters the kitchen with Clara in her lap, Vilu and Leon already knew what had happened and especially who had arrived. Violetta's face was a little worried, and Gérmen realized that whoever that "Man" Angie had been talking about, he would not like it either. Olga had gone with Ramalho to the room where she was still agitated and saying loose sentences, although at this moment with much more meaning considering who had returned, at least that was what Vilu thought.

- Vilu, Leon what are you doing here?- he did not know they had arrived, because they should have been at the Studio.

- Dad, we are shortly arrived. When we saw Olga, we can well... say bewildered ...

- Yes, I came to see if I could catch a glimpse of anything, after finally getting Angie calm.

- Angie, is she well, Dad?"

- Yes, she's a little nervous and not aware of anything, but you can rest easy.

- Is she really well, Dad?And what are you doing with Clara?

- Vilu she is well, I got her to lie down to rest a little. Clara is fine, she just felt all this tension ... now she calmed down. And does Olga say anything? Do you know what happened?

- You still do not know what happened?

- Well, to tell you the truth, I still do not quite understand what happened, when I arrived, Olga was ... how you saw her, and Angie was so nervous that I did not even understand what she was saying.

- Olga is still a bit "agitated", but she managed to say some perceptible things ... Dad you will not like to know who was here.

She knew Germen did not always agree with her Grandfather, even though he was his father. When they lived together in Madrid, in the early years they were constantly arguing, there was always something that her Grandfather did not like: the way he treated Vilu, how he talked about Maria with her, and so many other things.

Now, with this distance and after all she has known about her mother, about her family; she began to understand better the position of her father, why he don't spoke about her mother, why he hide everything that referred to Maria, because in addition to the pain he felt for her absence, for the lack she made him he tried to avoid talking about her so he not argue with her grandfather.

- Vilu, who's been here? Who did your grandmother leave with?

- With Grandfather! - And seeing the face of confusion, but also of astonishment of the father added - with Grandfather Joseth, it was he who was here.

- Your Grandfather!? Your grandfather Joseth? He's here ... but why did he go out with your grandmother, they ...

- Dad! - but Germen did not listen to Vilu, he had remembered that his father did not know anything about what's going on: Violetta's journey in the Studio, his marriage to Angie, Clara's birth ... but mainly that Vilu had long discovered the existence of Angelica and Angie.

Vilu knew that the only thing that could have made him lose his mind was Angelica and Angie having found her. She remembered well what her grandfather had said to her father when they left Madrid. "If you rediscover your past come with Violetta to Spain" she did not understand at that time what Joseph ment when he was talking about the past, but today she realized that this past that her grandfather spoke of was the family that she had never known it had existed, and in a way the very memory of Maria and music. And the moment his father was disbelieved at his grandfather's arrival, she realized at once that he had never told anything about what had happened over these four years. And she looked at his father with an air of someone who asked him, "How could you forget?"

- I know, I know Vilu, I screwed up ... I know.

- Grandpa did not know that Grandma and Angie had already found me, that I already knew everything? And even less of your marriage to Angie, you did not tell him, did you?

- No, I did not tell him. You know how your grandfather is always traveling. I spoke to your Grandmother Rosario ... but I could not found your grandfather and speak to him.

- And does Grandpa know that ... I followed Mom's career?

- No, I never told him. I do not know if I didn't for fear of his reaction, or just because the time was passing and I just forgot.

- Dad, you had to tryed again and again. You know how grandpa is in relation to this whole history of music and ...

- I tried Vilu, but I could not talk to your grandfather. Then time passed and the truth is that I never thought about it again.

- Dad ...- Vilu knew that her father had not done it on purpose, and that she had not even remembered his grandfather after her life had changed, been filled with music, friends and love...a lot of love: from friends, from her father, from Angie, Angelica and Leon.

- I know I know. I should have tried to talk to your Grandfather, but now it's not worth thinking about what I could or should have done.

- No, but you should have. And now, what are you going to do, Dad?

- I do not know, I really do not know. But as your Aunt Mercedes says, "One thing at a time, because all at once is a disaster." First, I'm going to take Clara to bed and talk to Angie. I'll take care of your grandfather when the time comes.

- Dad, there's only one thing I did not understand; how did Angie not recognize Grandpa?

- Because when I started dating your mother your grandparents had already separated, your grandfather lived in Madrid, and your mother being the daughter of who he was, he did not even come to the wedding.

- Grandpa did not come to your wedding? I never thought ... well, but now what are you going to tell Angie? Are you going to tell her everything, how Grandpa felt about everything?

- Yes. I have to tell you. No more lies between us, remember, I'll have to tell her everything.

- Dad, don't you think ... I don't know ... I'm not telling you to lie, maybe you could "omit" some things?

- No Vilu, I know it's not going to be easy to tell and I do not know how I'm going to do it, but Angie has the right to know the truth and especially where all this hatred comes from. She'll know the truth ... I just do not know how I'm going to do it ... but I'll tell her everything.

Vilu knew that her grandfather did not like to talk about anything related to Maria: music, family, or even what she liked or did not like. Suddenly it came to her memory, a day, a sunny day in Madrid, she was still a little girl, they were both walking: she and her grandfather. Suddenly she sees in the distance a seller of popcorn and caramelized apples and then she asks one to her grandfather. In her naivete as a child, she remembers asking her grandfather if her mother liked those apples too. He, who had bought her the candy picked it up of her hand and threw it out saying in a rude voice that it only made her feel bad: to the teeth and her stomach. When they arrived home Vilu finds and hugs Ramalho and cries, while he continues to scold her and be mean. Ramalho to take her away from his grandfather takes Violetta to the kitchen, and as soon as he sees himself alone with her, he tries to understand what has happened, and when he was aware of everything that has happened in the Park and without Joseph realizing it, he went to the street and bought another caramelized apple and offered it to her in secret, and in a muffled voice answered the question she had asked her grandfather: "Yes, your mother loved these apples". It had always been like that when Vilu tried to ask him about her mother, Joseth talked about something else, or simply said bad things about her, never told about her grandparents or her aunt. Germen kissed her, and left her with Leon in the kitchen going up to the bedroom.

Meanwhile, Angelica had taken Joseph to her house; it would be a difficult conversation so there was no better place than at home, where they could talk at ease and without interruption. Angélica enters the room and Joseph follows her, looking at all the photographs recognized in some Maria and Violetta, in others Angelica and Michael, and suddenly fixes on one of Angie with Violetta. Why would a photograph of Violetta with that "maid" was at Angelica's house? And why would Violetta take a picture with her? Olga was no longer a servant, she was already part of the family, she had taken care of Vilu after Maria's death, had helped Germen in everything ... but that "girl" was ... a stranger.

- Is this your house? And these photographs? Why are there pictures of Violetta with that maid, who opened the door in Germen's house?

- This house is not mine ... but I live here. And I will answer all of your questions, this conversation will be long so sit down please.

Joseph did what she asks and Angelica begins by telling him how during all the years that Germen was abroad, trying to escape from the past, whether she wants them or not, that he always fled at the very moment that she met them; on how Germen came back to Buenos Aires because Angelica had found them in Madrid. How Angeles by accident was eventually hired by Gérmen to be Violetta's perceiver, how she took this opportunity to be closer to her without Gérmen knew who she really was, thus giving the chance to Angeles to know, to be together with Violetta.

- She lied to Germen and to Violetta? She did not have that right, she should said who she was.

- She did not lie, she was caught by surprise by Germen, she fumbled and ended up ... she did not lie, she omitted.

- She omitted?! That she was Violetta's aunt? She lied, and she did not have that right.

- Joseph, and Germen? Did he have the right to take us away from Violetta's life?

- He was suffering ... Maria's death was hard for him.

- We all suffered with the death of Maria. She was my daughter, and Gérmen took away from me my granddaughter, the only thing that connected me to my daughter.

- You had to thank your "husband", it was Michael who killed her, it was he who forced her to go to that concert, he only saw the fame, the prestige, the money. He did not think of our granddaughter, of Violetta who needed her mother. He, Antonio and the music ...

- I can not be listening well, you can not tell me this, Joseth ..."

- Yes I can, because it is the truth. It was Michael that killed your daughter. Your daughter.

- Michael wanted to cancel the show, it was Maria who did not wanted to. She loved what she did, and Germen always knew in his heart that she would never give up on music. It was her life: music, Germen and Vilu.

- She gave up Germen and Violetta the moment she decided to go and make that concert ... abandoned them, trated them for ... for ...

- Joseph, Mary never gave up, never abandoned Germen, much less Violetta. The music was part of her, and your son knew enough about Mary to know that when he married her.

- She gave up yes. Maria betrayed Gérmen and Violetta with the music. As you once betrayed me, as Michael betrayed me.

- I never betrayed you, Joseth, or Michael. We can not avoid ourselves because we fall in love especially when we are young.

- He did...he knew that I liked you he took advantage of it, and you ... you chose him.

- Joseth, but I did not love you ... I loved Michael, we never wanted to hurt you.

- Maybe not you, but Michael, he betrayed me and twice.- Angelica was serious, but continued the conversation by trying to disregard what Joseth had just said about Michael betraying him twice.

- I do not like you talking about Michael like that; and is true he had his faults, and they were not few, I have perfect notion of this, but I loved him. Then you also have a few flaws.

- Forget it, forget it ... the point here is that you two have deceived Germen and Violetta.

- No, we did not fool anyone. Angels only took advantage of a mistake made by Germen to approach Vilu and meet her without Germen disappearing again with her.

- And you still put the blame on Germen ... when it was your daughter who disguised herself and deceived the two ...

- It was not just Gérmen's fault, and it was not really anyone's fault. When I heard what was happening, I also thought it was wrong, but the reality is that if Angie said who she was Germen would have fled again.

- At least you know it was not right, that you cheated on my son and that you deceived Violetta ... but you did nothing ...

- I myself, after Violetta knew who we were, tried to convinced them to tell everything; but our granddaughter asked me not to. She was afraid Germen would pull us away from her again.

- And you gave in to a girl's delirium ... on a whim?

- It was not a whim, she was afraid to be estranged from her family, from a Grandmother and an aunt she had never known existed.

Angelica begins thus to count how they were reunited with Violleta; how she started to study music, first piano with Beto and then because she realized what would make her happy enrolled in the Studio and began to study singing and dancing and had made many friends who adore and respect her. In how much she looked like Maria: her voice, her presence on stage, her strength and dedication all so much like her mother; how she had hidden everything from his father with the help of Angie and later also with the help of Ramalho and Olga who only wanted to see her happy.

- Ramalho and Olga also participated in this conspiracy against Germen ... but after all they deceived him.

- Because you know very well that Germen would ban it. And then Vilu was afraid of hurting him, she knew her father did not like her to sing because of Maria ... and she put it off until one day she burst.

She then tells him about the Youmix contest that Vilu won and how Gérmen learned everything. That same day Germen had decided to travel again ... but thanks to Angie he ended up realizing the enormous talent that Vilu had and that she was only happy singing, and in that moment he supported her in her vocation. He also told her that it was thanks to Gérmen that the studio did not close the doors after Antonio had died, that he had helped in the purchase of the building, and was involved in the management of the building. At last she got to the part of Angel's marriage to Germen, she knew it would be the most difficult thing to tell and she did not know how to begin this part of the conversation, but she also knew that Joseph would have a hard time accepting it.

- I see, you managed to get close to Violetta, make her follow in her mother's footsteps, despite all the effort Germen made to avoid it.

- You have to listen to her Joseph. I assure you that as soon as you hear her you stop thinking like this ... please give it a chance like your son did.

- Never, and now that I'm here, it's over. You have entered the life of Gérmen and Violetta and think that you can change everything ...

- Joseph, she has music in her soul, she was born with it. You will not get her to stop.

- Yes, always the same story. That's how Michael convinced Maria to go on that trip: the talent, the vocation ... and that went so well.

- Joseph, now it's you who is hurting me. I lost my daughter, my husband, I lost my granddaughter's growing.

- All because of the damn music ... and now you're telling me that my granddaughter is following in her mother's footsteps.

- Joseth ... the music had nothing to do with Maria's death, and then Violetta, our granddaughter, is happy singing.

- No, you two deceived Germen and forced him accept everything.

- Joseph, Germen is too grown up to be influenced ... he just realized what Vilu was doing ...

- No, he would never allow it...

- Germen realized that music was born with Vilu, it's natural to her ... and no one can contradict her nature.

- No, after what he fought so that Violetta did not follow the same steps as his mother ...

- He fought? Or was it you who always made his head? Joseph, deep down you know that it was you that made Germen go away and take away Violetta.

- No Angelica, I just opened his eyes to keep Violetta from having the same destiny then Maria.

- What happened was an accident: it was horrible, painful for everyone.

- For all ... it was painful and horrible for Germen and for Violetta.

- You think I did not suffer, Michael or Angeles. We all lose someone important in our life: a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter ... do not tell me that we do not all suffer. Then sooner or later the eyes of Germen would open again.

- Open his eyes? What do you mean by that?

- He realized that Violetta has the same gift that Maria had, is in her blood and she can not help it.

- The same gift, or the same sad destiny?

- Joseph! You can not be serious ... Maria had a gift and Vilu was also born with it ...

- I can! Yes, It was always been a sad fate, your daughter's career has always been a disgrace in Germen's life.

- Germen never thought of Maria's career in that way, he loved to hear her sing.

- At first I believe it was like that, and Germen did not oppose Maria enchanted with its voice but after Violetta was born ...

- But your son also studied music at the Studio in Seville. I do not understand why you're talking about music like that, like something bad ....

- Yes Germen studied music, and I was fortunate to prevent that madness ...

- I remember so well they singing and playing together; Christmas evenings full of music, of joy, of laughter; the years parties full of music ...

- Laughter, Joy ... That became in what? In tears and sadness.

- Joseph, no matter how much you want to deny it, Violetta has music flowing in her veins, she was born with that gift, and neither you nor anyone else can help it. Even if you try, you will not succed.

- Yes, I can and I'll do it, you can be sure that it will end. And Germen should never have allowed it, not after what he suffered with Maria's death.

- Even with all the pain he felt at the time of Maria's death, he knew that music was what made her complete.

- No Germen thought that after they had Violetta she'd leave her career, he told me.

- Maybe, and I believe that Maria would leave it, but at the moment it is not worth thinking about what might have happened.

- No, you're right. Right now I have to think about what to do, to remedy what you and your daughter did.

- Please, you have to accept things as they are, and the truth is that Violetta loves to sing, just like Maria.

- Yes, yes, I'll solve it later with Germen ... but there's one thing I still do not understand - and that's where he get the photograph of Angie with Violetta - this photograph?

- The photograph of Angie and Violetta?

- Angie, at least she has a name. And why do you have so many pictures of this maid ... with Violetta?

And he noticed that there were many photograps where Violetta and this Angie were: some alone, some with Germen and some with Angelica.

- Now I see the way you spoke to her ... of course ... Joseph, this is Angeles, Maria's sister, my daughter.

- This is Angeles? But it was the one who opened the door for me, I thought ... so the child in Olga's lap is your granddaughter? Is Angeles's daughter?

- Yes, it's Clara, and she's not my granddaughter ...- thinking that she would not have another opportunity to tell him about Angie's marriage to Germen, or to tell her about Clara, Angelica does not waste time. - She's our granddaughter.

-  Whath!? "Our" granddaughter? What the heck are you talking...

- Yes, is our granddaughter. Angie and Gérmen got married a year ago. And that baby Olga had on her lap is Clara, our granddaughter.

- Germen what? - Joseph looked crazy, he could not believe ... Germen had fallen into the same trap.

- Germen and Angie fell in love and married ... and they had Clara ... she's our granddaughter. We have two beautiful granddaughters Joseth ... and in the end is not that what is important ... the happiness of our children?

- No, no ... I will not allow it ... I will not ...

- I know, that all this must be very strange, I myself was against this passion in the beginning. When I realized that Angie had fallen in love with Germen, I tried to stop her, I tried to push her away ... I even talked to her  ...

- Did you talk to her? Did you try to separate them? You should have taken your daughter away from Germen, it was that what you should have done.

- And I tried, but she told me that despite loving him, he was with someone else and that they would never be together.

- And you believed? And you did not do anything to keep them apart?

- Yes, I believed. Besides, Angie eventually moved away to live in France for a while, they denied what they felt for a long time.

- Are you saying that you accepted this relationship like that? That you did nothing to stop it? That are you happy about it?

- Yes, Jose, I'm happy. They love each other and above all I want the happiness of my daughter. When you started treating Angie as a maid, I guessed that Germen had not told anything.

- No! I have to go talk to Germen, he can not repeat the same mistake. I will not allow it, this marriage will end today.

- Joseth... where are you going?
