Chapter 2

Finding the Sun
Violets POV:

Violet and Drizzle had been walking for a few days in the Red Spine river for a few days. It got boring after a while walking through the same red grass and trees everyday. Eventually they had both reached the end of Red Spine and came across a river. On the other side she couldn't really see what it was on the other side. "Hey Drizzle can you see what's on the other side?." Violet asked.

She watched as he squinted across the river. "Nope, Sorry Violet I cant see anything." She sighed and a vision pounded her head, It was a vision of Drizzle fighting someone, a Boulderwing with hardened scales, another where when Drizzle fought the dragon and died to a snapped neck, another vision where both her and Drizzle died to snapped necks, and another where they where flying with the dragon and then landing on sand.

The visions faded away as she looked across the ocean and back at Drizzle. She wished all dragons could come together and seek peace like how spiders kept frogs as pets sometimes and they became friends, like that kind of friend. She looked around to find food. She looked into the river and found a small fish and tried to catch it but failed. She soon chased after it on land and dove into the water and caught it.

She started flailing around and finally felt the wet soil between her talons along with the fish in her mouth. She ate the fish slowly as she had no way of knowing what was on the other side of the river. She had wondered off through the trees and she found a few small houses with weird things on wheels that were quite small and raggedy looking along with scavengers. They had small buckets with them. She stayed behind the trees and watched as they carried small buckets to their stone houses. A few off them scattered and dropped their buckets when they saw her. She soon returned to Drizzle and Violet watched as Drizzle looked up into the sky and stared for a while. She looked up the see what he was looking at. Violet stared as she saw a Boulderwing circling above them.

The Boulderwing circled for a while before landing by Drizzle who was about two feet away from her. "What are you doing by the river?, are you guys lost?." The Boulderwing asked. The Boulderwing was Light Grey with a Dark Grey underbelly and Black horns with a horn ring with a black rock in it. Her eyes were dark yellow and her voice was a little soft with a hint and anger. "Um—No we aren't—." "Actually we kind of are, we were wondering if you could see across this river." She said cutting off Drizzle as he stuttered. "Oh!, I can gladly help, My name is Cliffhanger!." She said to Violet. She watched as Cliffhanger looked across the river and looked back. "Well across this river is sand, a lot of sand, I think?." Cliffhanger said to Violet. She watched as Cliffhanger looked at Drizzle and stared at him and glared at him. Behind the glare she could see anger and guilt?.

Violet had another vision one where they were friends in the future and where Cliffhanger had small dragonets with someone. She was also there but older and with a few small scars with two dragonets, they were small and purple with hints of light purple that almost looked pink one of them had patches that glowed dimly they had normal sized wings with stars. The vision slowly faded away.

It didn't matter about that. She had to get to the Solarwing kingdom, get the fire dragon and leave.
The Boulderwing named Cliffhanger lead them across the large river. Drizzle had swam across the river and Violet flew with Cliffhanger. They had soon made it to the Solar Kingdom and it was very hot. It felt like the sun was baking them. She wondered what it felt like for Drizzle in the Solar Kingdom. Soon her, Drizzle and Cliffhanger had made it near the Solar Kingdom. "Well this is as far as I can take you, hope you find what you're looking for." Violet tried to read her mind but all she felt was a small humming sound. Strange, why can't I read her mind. Every other mind I've read sounds like giant conversations but to themselves. She thought to herself.

She looked at Drizzle and he looked ahead of them. All she saw was sand, for miles and miles and miles, was sand. Violet had never seen so much sand in her life. Sure there was a beach next to her cave but the beach was small this was a lot bigger. This was like a beach but it went on forever. But in the distance she could see a small archway. It wasn't to far away just a few miles probably twenty five miles away. She could fly and Drizzle could walk but it wouldn't be fair.

They had walked through the sand for a while now. She swore that Drizzle was about to melt into a puddle in the middle of the dessert. "H-How long are we going to be here?." Drizzle asked as he looked ahead. "I-I don't know I've never been here before." Violet answered back. "Hehe, I guess you could say we're baking." He joked. "Yep, maybe we'll find some magical water." She said sarcastically. "Wait do Solarwings have Animus magic?." Drizzle asked.
"I don't know, maybe?." She answered back.

The rest of the trip was silent. Neither of them had talked and to Violet it felt as if her talons had little bugs crawling under her scales, but it was just the clumps of sand stuck to her scales. Soon she had begun to see towers of sandstone and the archway up ahead. There was also trees?. Then she saw it, Water. A whole pond of water. She ran to the water and looked around. She saw some tents with other dragons in them and Drizzle soon came up besides her. "Um, Hello is anybody here?." Violet asked while a dragon in one of the tents came out and spoke. "Well yes a few of us are, what do ya need young lady?." The dragon asked as he came out of the tent. He was a dusty brown color with a pale brown underbelly his horn was small and short with a few scars on him the most noticeable one was his tail.

Which was half amputated at the tip of the tail and all that was left was a stump. The dragon didn't really have spikes on his tail except for the small ones that were left. "We wanted to know if we could drink from here?." The dragon looked at her and looked at Drizzle. He made a grunting sound. "Of course ya can we let all dragons drink from here you can even dip your feet in a little." He said looking down as he turned to the tents. "Thank you Mr uhh....". Violet trailed off. "My name is Tumbleweed." He said as he went into the tents. "Thank you Tumbleweed!." She shouted to one of the tents.

Violet slowly dipped her feet into the pond and watched as all the sand that stuck to her feet slowly drifted off. Drizzle did the same and they had both drank from the pond and went on their way past the tents. As she passed the tents she could hear clangs and zapping it was probably the dragons making armor or spears. They walked away from the pond and soon had approached the archway. The archway was made from sandstone with small designs of dragons with horns there were small torches on the sides that had charred ends.

They walked into the village and to her it was pretty large. Her and Drizzle walked through the village and she took out her spare map and looked at it. The closest dragons from here was the Galaxywing territory. Which would be a long flight from here because it was all ocean. Which meant no resting for her, Drizzle and the Solarwing she was going to find.

Violet and Drizzle walked through the village and there were dragons advertising their shops shouting things like, "Get your fresh meat here!." "New freshly scented candles here!." "Freshly dried lizards!." And a bunch of other things. She sighed and looked at one of the markets it had a sign that read: Free maps!, you get a free map or maps along with some extra scales!.
She walked over to the shop and Drizzle followed behind her. Violet heard clangs and shouting followed by a dragon coming out of the tent. He was a nice golden brownish color with grey wings and his horn was bigger than Tumbleweed with a few spots on it.

"H-Hello I would like to know if I-We could get a map to this place, please?." She asked the dragon as he tapped the counter.  "Um sure how many scales do you have?." He asked. "Wha?- But the sign says-." "Nah!, I'm just joking, what type of map?, city, places, best markets, The Queens palace..." He trailed off.
"I would like a map to-uh- markets and places please." Violet told him. He went to the back and she heard a small clanging sound and he returned with two maps and a few scales. "Here you go!." He said handing her the scales and maps. "Thank you!." She said as she and Drizzle walked away from the market.

She stood in the sandstone path she lifted her head to sniff the air as something felt off. Smoke, that's what she smelt. All of a sudden there were dragons screaming and scattering and yelling at other dragons to get some water. She looked to see where the smoke was from. Thee was a small crowd with Golden Yellows, Browns and Honey Yellows. She could see the smoke which meant there was a fire, but from where?. Violet pushed through the crowd and saw a dragon but the dragon was on fire. On FIRE!. Were they ok? Did they need help?, why were they on fire?. So many questions were whirling through her head. But she knew what she had to do. She had to go to the dragon and get out of the place.

She remembered her vision of the dragon on a sandstone path yelling. She now knew who this was. It was the dragon from her vision. Violet gathered up some courage and slowly and cautiously approached the dragon. He was yelling something about coal and how something wasn't fair. She saw something the dragon was holding that she hadn't noticed before. He was holding an egg that had a Light Yellow shell with White spots on it the and Brown at the bottom. The strange thing about the egg was that it had a pale hue to it. Violet slowly walked up to the dragon.

She could hear a few gasps and Oh no's from the crowd. She was closer now and could hear that they were arguing about the price of coals and how the salesman kept changing the prices. She walked up the the market and tapped the wood. "Um hello I would like to know why you're arguing?." She asked the dragon and Salesman.  They both turned their heads towards her. "He keeps changing the prices!, they get higher every time!." The dragon who was on fire yelled in her ear. "Well I wouldn't say that I would say, err, making more scales!." He said, his voice was gruff and a bit deep. "Yea!, that's scamming!." He shouted back. She sighed and looked around the market.

In the back covered by a curtain she saw there was a dragonet in the back playing with a small stick with hay in it. The stick was surrounded by some small stones and the stick figure looked to be going behind them. The young dragonet then brought out another stick figure. This one had four legs and was attacking the stones. The smaller stick figure behind the stones was plucked from the ground and the dragonet took out the small pebbled eyes and laid it back on the ground.

"Who's dragonet is that?, are they yours?." Violet asked the salesman. He looked to the back and sighed. "That is my daughter." He said a bit sadly. "I'm trying to get her a new toy and it's a bit pricey and today is her hatching day, so I wanted to make her happy." He continued putting his head down in shame. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, how much is the toy?." Violet asked the salesman. "It's twenty five scales and I only have eighteen, Sorry to bother your time." She looked at her pouch around her neck and opened it. She looked at the scales she had. One two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve. Which meant she would only have five left. She didn't care as long as the dragonet got her toy. She pulled out seven scales and handed them to the salesman. He looked at her and his eyes widened. "A-are you sure, what about your scales?." He asked. "It doesn't matter, go make your dragonet happy." She told him.

He grinned sheepishly and turned to the back. He was in there for a few minutes before he came out with a bag and laid it on the counter. "Sorry about earlier, I wasn't really in my best mood." He said while handing the dragon the bag. He snatched the bag out of the dragons talons. He turned to face her and accidentally smacked her in her front leg with his tail. "You really didn't have to do that, I could have paid for it myself." He said as he walked away. She watched as the flames on him died down. "Wait!, you have to come with me!." She yelled as the dragons that were grouped around them walked away. He turned back around to face her. "No I don't, I have a home to return to and an egg to take care of. I can't come with you because of-of something that happened a few minutes ago." She looked at him before turning around and walking back to Drizzle. "Did he agree with the mysterious prophecy thing?, Or no?." Drizzle asked Violet. "He said he had to go home and take care of an egg, But I have an idea." Violet told him. "Let me guess we'll sneak into his house." He said as he pointed to the dragon walking away in the distance. "Yes, that's exactly what we'll do." She told him. "W-I don't actually mean to- I just-." He sighed as he followed her.

They both walked down the sandstone pathways as they followed the strange dragon home. There were multiple houses beside each other and a few with platforms on the roof made of stone. Some dragons were on the platforms with their wings spread and they laid on they platforms and they looked to be sleeping. She looked at one of the houses and there looked to be a dragonet lighting it's horn and another dragon came into the room it was in and scolded them before looking at her and closing the curtains. Violet looked to her right and saw some dragonets on the roof platforms whispering about something. The sky was growing darker as it became night.

Up ahead she could see the dragon go into a house with a small overhang above the door. He went inside and closed the door. They peaked through the windows and they could see that He was by a fire place with a small red pillow. They both watched as he lit the fire with his horn and put the egg near the fire and sat on a rug near the egg. He took a scroll from a shelf and started reading it.

They both walked up to the door. Violet hesitated lifting her talons near the door. She knocked on the wooden door. She heard shuffling inside the house and waited.

The dragon slowly opened the door. He scanned them for a second. "Wha-Why are you following me?". He stammered before he looked back inside at the fireplace. Violet looked through the window and saw the flames that were still lit. Why would she follow me home, I don't want to- Wait is someone there? Hello? I don't want to- His thoughts were cut off. That was strange. Why would he block her out and how did he know she was there?. "Is the egg your parents or yours?". She asked. He looked back at her. "It's my parents, that's why I'm home alone". He told her. "Why are you home alone ?". She asked looking inside.

He had a blue couch with a spot by the window sill that had a lifted platform with small orange cushions. There was a large yellow and red rug by the fireplace along with the fire that was still burning. "My parents are working and my mom gets home in a few hours so it won't be long". He soon stepped away from the doorway. "Would you like to come inside instead of standing outside with that Webwing?". He motioned to the inside of his house which revealed a hallway with more hallways branching off of it. "Sure, But Drizzle is also coming inside ". Violet said while she and Drizzle stepped into the house. The house was noticeably large with the hallways being decorated with paintings.

One was a painting of a Dragon with spots on her snout and she had an apron with flour caked on it along with stains of reds and purples. She was a Brown Honey color with a Creamy underbelly and Red eyes. The other was a Dragon with small bags under his Yellow eyes and he had a small smile. He was a Brown Golden color with a Dark Brown underbelly with pale yellow spots  on his Brown underbelly. He had dust on his scales and a pouch hung from his neck. "Who are they?, Are they your parents?". Violet asked as she walked into the living room where the dragon was. He got up from the rug and walked over to the hallway. "Oh, Yes they are my parents, they both work very hard to pay for food and they love visitors because we never get them much...". He went silent and walked into the living room and started talking to Drizzle who was happily talking to him. She looked at the sun dial which read: 8:37 which meant her parents and siblings would be asleep.

Violet missed them; she thought of how Midnight would give nightly stories of how different tribes got their crystals or how tribes would do challenges to become Queen or King. She walked back into the living room with the dragon and Drizzle still talking. She looked at some cushions in the corner of the room. She walked over to them and lay down on them. "What's your name?". She asked, picking her head up from the cushions. "Sol, My name is Sol". He said while picking out a scroll from a shelf near the fireplace. "Isn't that a fire hazard?". She asked, looking at the shelf. He looked back at the shelf, then back at her. "It isn't unless someone purposely aims their beam or fire at it". Sol answered back, now sitting on the ground opening the scroll.

Violet put her head down ready to sleep. Crreeeeaak. She heard a sound and perked her head up. She looked around the room before realizing she was at Sols' house. She looked by the fireplace and saw Sol curled around the egg. Drizzle was sleeping on the blue couch. She watched as his body rose and fell. She could see shadows from the light of the fireplace. She heard some more small creaks around the house and was a bit scared. The talonsteps got closer until they reached the living room. She closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep as the dragon walked through the room and checked each of them. The dragon looked similar in a way but she couldn't pinpoint it.

The dragon finally walked up to her and put a thin bear fur on her and walked away. She saw that the dragon had freckles and an apron with blues and whites. She knew who this dragon was now.

It was Sol's mother.
