Freaking Kid with the Gum

"So, what else do we need on the list, imouto?" I ask, switching the basket to my left hand.

"Let me see..." Haru grumbles, placing her basket on the ground and pulling out the shopping list from her pocket. "All that's left to get is eggs, milk, cheese, your grape sports drink, laundry detergent, and butter."

"Sheesh. We should've just got a cart instead," I groan. "I'm so glad we brought the wagon along this time."

Haru chuckles. "That would've been smart and me too. Carrying all of this would've been a pain."

"Yeah, like that last time. I felt like my arms were going to fall off!" I complain.

"Well, hopefully that won't happen again. We learned our lesson."

"Yeah," I say, grabbing the laundry detergent off the shelf and into my basket. "Can you believe that we're really going to Ouran Academy?"

"I'm not surprised. I knew we'd get in," Haru says, confidently.

"Well, aren't you full of yourself?" I tease. "Anyways, what if we meet some really cute, rich guys? Imagine marrying a rich guy! Wouldn't that be crazy?"

"I don't think any rich guys will be interested in someone who's poor compared to them. Remember we're just commoners to them."

"You're no fun. Haven't you read any romance novels?"

"They're called fiction for a reason. That stuff doesn't happen in real life. Besides, we'll be too busy to bother with boys. If we wanna stay in the school we have to keep up with our scholarships," Haru says.

"I know, I know..." I grumble. "I'm the older sibling, but why does it feel the other way around?"

"Because I got the smarts and you–"

"-got the talent. I know..." I mumble. "Just imagine though if we did find our soulmates out of the rich kids. I wonder who it'd be?"

"Nobody, because that's all just a fairytale," Haru says, grabbing the eggs and cheese.

"Gaah! You're such a party pooper. You're not going to find your soulmate looking at life like that," I complain.

"I'm only interested in getting good grades and becoming a lawyer–"

"-like mom was," I cut her off. "I know you've only ever said it a million other times."

She grabs the milk and stares at me for a few seconds. "I know, sorry. I just want to follow in mom's footsteps. I feel like we'd be more connected since we didn't really get to know mom."

"I know and I think that's a sweet thing to do and I admire you for it," I admit. "That's the same reason I'm in music because mom loved music too." I begin filling my basket with my sports drink.

We grab the final item on our list before we head to the register to pay for everything.

"Why if it isn't the Fujioka twins! You ladies are looking well today," the owner of the store, Baba, greets us. "How are you?" He begins checking our groceries out.

"Thank you. We're doing well, how are you?" I reply.

"Swell. You guys sure got a lot of stuff today? Restocking the pantry?"

"Definitely. Our dad eats it up quick," Haruhi finally includes herself.

"I bet. Speaking of Ranka, how's he doing?"

"Just as overdramatic as always," I answer.

He chuckles. "Sounds like your old man." He finishes checking our items out and bags them all up quick as usual. "Now, you ladies have a nice rest of the day."

"You too, Mr. Baba!" Haru and I say on our way out. We place the bags in the red wagon we left outside.

"Let's hurry, so we can make dinner before dad gets home," I say.

"Alright," Haru agrees and we fall in sync with each other walking home. "Okay, we might have some time for boys."

I teasingly gasp. "Did I just hear that correctly? That couldn't of come from my real sister's mouth." I turn around, grab her shoulders, and begin shaking her. "Who are you and what have you done with my sister?!" I shout, causing us to get some strange looks from bystanders.

"R-R-R-Rumi! S-s-stop! I'm g-gonna g-get w-whipla-a-ash!" she yells.

I stop shaking her and stifle a giggle. "Sorry, I just can't believe you just said that."

She holds her head for a second, trying to regain her vision and thoughts. "I'm starting... to think I shouldn't... of said it..."

"Then we wouldn't of had this turning point in your life! My imouto is growing up!" I fake sob. "You're growing up so fast! I can't handle it!"

"Nēchan! You're embarrassing me!" Haru whines.

"That's my job! Don't you know that?" I ask.

"Anyway, if we have room we may be able to date if you want. I personally probably won't, but who's going to stop you?"

"Nobody."

"Hey lady!"

We turn to see a younger boy with a couple of other boys running towards us. The boy who shouted pulls out gum from his mouth and shoves it into Haru's hair. From the force, her glasses get knocked off and are accidentally stepped on as they all quickly run off.

"Haruhi, I'll be right back," I growl and chase after the boy. "Where the hell do you think you're going?!"

The boys turn to see me close behind them and they speed up their pace to get away. I smirk, challenge accepted. I quicken my pace and manage to get behind the main boy's sidekicks, so I trip them and slam them onto the ground. The leader turns and his eyes widen.

"Whoa! Calm down lady it was just a harmless prank!" he shouts and turns a corner, which is a dead end.

"A harmless prank?! My sister has gum stuck in her hair now thanks to you! The only way to get gum out of your hair is to cut it! She has to cut all her long, beautiful hair off because of your harmless prank!" I yell and get closer to him.

He continues to back away from me before his back hits the wall. "W-what do you want me to do?"

"Apologize."

"Sorry!"

"To my imouto," I growl, grab his shirt, and tug him all the way back to where I left my sister. "Now apologize."

"I-I'm sorry for sticking gum in your hair..."

"It's fine. A change of hairstyle might be good for a change," Haruhi says. I smack the back of her head. "Oww!?"

"You're not supposed to be so nonchalant about it!" I fuss then turn towards the boy. "You deserve this." I punch him straight in the jaw, causing him to be knocked out like his buddies. "7 years of martial arts really pays off."

"Rumi! You shouldn't of killed him!"

"I didn't kill him. I just knocked him out," I reply simply. "Now let's go home, so I can cut your hair."

We continue the walk in silence, until I get a new tune for a song in my head and begin to hum it.

"That sounds good," Haru admits after a long moment of silence.

"I'm thinking to name it Street Thugs to go along with what just happened," I explain.

"I like it."

We continue the way home in silence, since Haru knows I need silence to concentrate on making another song, especially when I have a tune going through my head. Once we arrive home, I quickly head to our room so I can create the tune I made before going to help Haru in the kitchen. After I finish, I head to the kitchen to discover Haru already finished putting everything away. Even dinner is made.

"You work fast," I say.

"Rumi, that was 2 hours ago."

"Oh dang... Sorry..."

"It's okay, I know you have to get the tune down so you don't lose it," she says. "Get a plate and start eating. Dad said he'll be home soon."

"You took a shower too?" I question noticing the towel on her head.

"Oh, yeah. I was trying to see if I could get any of the gum out, but it didn't work."

I grab the scissors out of the kitchen drawer. "Then let's fix your hair."

"You need to eat."

"I can eat after," I say and drag the trashcan over to her. I carefully take the towel off her head to inspect the incident. "That ass hat got it on the top. Haru, your hair is going to be really short."

"Just do it, so you can get some food in you."

I snip her hair off and fake cry. "All your beautiful hair... Gone! We don't even look like twins anymore! This sucks. What if someone mistakes you for a boy?!"

"So?"

"You kill me, Haru! How can you say that without a care?! Ughh! Impossible! That's what you are."

"Wow," she says, feeling her new hair cut. "This is different."

"Wonder what dad'll think?" I question.

"Who knows."

"Wait, we should act like each other and mess with dad. You be me and I'll be you. See if he figures it out," I suggest.

"Sure."

~~~
Well, that wasn't fun, dad knew from the moment he walked in the door that Haruhi was the twin with the haircut. Downer. Well, till next time, goodnight! We've got to get use to the new sleeping schedule!
