VIOLET

'Her damaged petals are what made her more beautiful than all the other flowers'

The morning light seeped through the cracks of my broken window, casting a dull glow in my little room. I stirred in my worn out mattress the springs creaking as I roll to my side.

My body ached from the bruises, remnants from last night's anger by my so step father.

forced myself to sit up, pushing the tattered blanket aside. The room was cold, the kind of cold that seeped into your bones and refused to leave. I glanced at the clock—it was barely 5 AM. Time to start the day.I rummaged through my small wardrobe, pulling out a set of clothes that had seen better days. The fabric was thin and cheap, but it was all I had.

I limp to the bathroom turning on the dim lights and I stare at the small mirror in front of me.

My reflection stared back at me, pale and tired.

The bruises were stark against my skin, purples and blues that told a story of pain. I reached for my makeup, applying it meticulously to cover the evidence of my stepfather's rage.

It was a skill I had perfected over the years, hiding the truth beneath layers of foundation and concealer.

I freshen up and change into the clothes  I picked earlier.

Once satisfied with my appearance, slipped out of my room and made my way to the kitchen.

The house was silent, my mother and stepfather still asleep.

I worked quickly, preparing breakfast with practiced efficiency. Scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee—simple, but enough to keep them satisfied.

I make my way to the front door and slowly open it as I make my way to sunset hues, the bakery I work at.

It was my only solace.

The cool morning air and the quiet streets offered a brief escape from the chaos of home. By the time I arrived, the sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft golden light over the storefront.

I begin to work as I grab an apron from the shelfs and take out the ingredients to make a cupcake batter and mix the them together.

Baking was the only thing that kept me away from any depression. The pills I take are useless, hell I always get a beating everyday.

Iris is my boss and she in her 20s. She is just like my parents. Rude, humiliating. She would force me to stay for extra hours so that she can go to parties and waste herself in useless activities.

My coworkers are nicer than her, willow and rose. Willow is distance, she barely talks and she is cold. Rose is a sunshine girl who is just cheery and friendly all the time.

I don't prefer them as friends I just think of them as my.. Just normal people.

Although iris can be so rude, she did  accidentally see my  bruises and I ended up spilling a little bit of my. story.

Ever since that she was a bit nicer and even let me stay in the room upstairs the bakery where there is a room, a living room and a little kitchen.

She hasn't changed much though.

The hours flew by, the smell of baked cupcakes  filling the air. For a few precious hours, I could forget everything else. But the respite was always temporary.

As noon approached, I knew I had to leave for school.

I nodded to willow and rose letting them know I was leaving and step outside the bakery and start Making my way to school.

Its funny how I'll be graduating in 1 month.

I reached the school building as students were gathering around in groups speaking to each other and laughing.

I shake my head and carry the books in my hand and enter the building, my head hung low as I desperately try to blend in with the others.

Of course I failed, and by the time I reached the locker the girls were already there.

"look who is here" Mindy smirked at her minions. "Oh of course, it's the little broken girl who always loves attention"

Amanda snickered. I ignored them and took my schedule and tried to go away but Mindy grabbed my wrist, her nails digging in to my skin.

I bit back a cry as tears blurred my vision and my head getting dizzier by the second.

" Not so fast Neveah. Oh, are you gonna  cry little girl?" She said louldy while still grabbing onto my wrist.

"Yeah and brats like you deserve a ugly beating." Another voice replied from behind me. I was pulled up and I whipped my head and saw a beautiful girl with jet black hair, average makeup and she looked... Cold and scary.

"Whta did you say?" Amanda angrily scowled as she took her hand to slap me.

The girl caught Amanda's hand and stopped her.

"Listen. You leave her alone, and never. Borther her again. Got it? If I see one more time, I'll make sure you don't live."

She threatened. The girls stiffened and nodded and ran away, leaving me alone with the mystery girl.

"Are you okay?" She asked me. I nodded not looking in her face.

"Do they always do this to you?" She asks me her finger forcing me to look at her.

I nod slowly still not looking at her.

"You don't deserve it." She breaths sharply. I shook my head as a no.

"Iam a freak I deserve it." I mumble softly my voice barely audible. She stares at me for a spilt second then speaks up.

"Listen. You are beautiful. Your eyes, your eyelashes, everything about you. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise okay?"

I stay quite not knowing to say anything.

I examine her face. She seems serious and not to forget she absolutely beautiful. Her eyeliner is simple but it looks breathtaking. Her loose strands of hair blow in the wind as she glares at somone. Preferably Mindy, or one of her minions.

"Whats your name?" She asks as she places her hand on my shoulder. "Violet"

I whisper so that she can only hear me.

"Amelie. That's a beautiful name, violet"

She gives me a little smile. "let's get you to class."

She walks with me to English, as I awkwardly follow her. She doesn't speak much, I guess, and she seems like the bad girl type but nice.

We stop In front of the hall, our school is huge and has huge classrooms, more like halls.

" I'll wait for you out of science class." She mouths at me.

I make my way to the back of the hall and take a seat by the window. It was raining and the clouds were clearing as the soothing sound of raindrops gently hits the window. I wish it could be like this forever. sighing, I take out my laptop and glance at the board.

We were told to write some notes and begin typing them down.
