Elowen Stark understood from a young age that as the firstborn daughter of the Lord of Winterfell, and the Warden of the North, her position and status was much in the level as her elder brother's, Robb, was. She would be the first daughter to have a betrothal brokered, help strengthen House Stark's bonds with other Houses, be it to Lords older than her or younger than her, and mainly to firstborn sons or widower Lords.

She understood that much about the world from a young age,both from observing everyone around her to listening to the maids of the Keep, much more than a highborn Lady or a Princess should but she was thankful, because she often used that knowledge to shield her innocent twin sister and younger sister from the world of men.

And when she's betrothed to the one person her twin sister seems to have become infactuated with the tall tales of, Prince Joffrey Baratheon, there is little that Elowen can do but attempt to heal the ever breaking bridge between the two and building a diplomatic enough bond between herself and her husband-to-be so that her marriage can be cordial.

But while building a relationship with her soon to be husband's family and the Prince himself, Elowen dicovers things about them and herself than would break the faith of many, in both of Gods and in people.

Lady Elowen of House Stark, first born daughter, second child  of Lord Eddard Stark and LadyCatelyn Tully, knew her position and standing from an absurdly age, despite being sheltered.

So it doesn't surprise her when a marriage betrothal between her and Prince Joffrey Baratheon is brokered, as she knows its her duty, she is pissed as she knows her twin sister is infactuated with the Prince but she knows her position in the family.
