Chapter Thirty Two - Unknown Number
"Are you almost done?"
"Yes. Just a second," I muttered while slipping into my heels.
"You've been saying the same thing since the past forty five minutes, Scarlet. Do you want me to cancel-"
I swung the door open.
Alec's words seemed to be hanging in air as he stopped abruptly, his eyes taking me in with a slow sensual pace. His mouth opened slightly.
A smirk formed on my lips. Lily was right. The sleek red gown did look nice on me. Not to mention the slit that was doing an amazing job at the moment. Alec took a little longer to gaze at my legs.
"Let's go," I said.
He was still standing in the doorway and I attempted to walk past him but he didn't budge.
Instead, he took a step ahead, his eyes scanning me up and down once again.
He closed the gap between us and lifted his warm hands up to my shoulders, taking full advantage of the halter neck design as his fingers started rubbing circles on my back.
Butterflies exploded in my stomach and I leaned into him for support, gripping his tuxedo collar firmly.
"I thought we were getting late," I muttered.
He didn't seem to pay attention to my words as his mouth fell over the base of my neck.
"You look beautiful," He whispered against my skin, his lips leaving tingles wherever he kissed.
I wrapped my arm around his neck and leaned up to his ear. "Alec, do you wanna skip the party?"
He had the most intense look in his eyes when I pulled back. His jaw clenched as he nodded hungrily, his fingers reaching to undo my dress but I quickly stepped out of his reach.
"I was just kidding," I chuckled.
He seemed to have snapped out of his daze but recovered quickly and frowned at me, wiping a sweat bead from his forehead.
"Why? Did I get you all hot and bothered, Mr. Sinclair?" I smirked.
His scowl only deepened but soon, it was replaced by a challenging smirk.
"You're going to regret playing games with me, Mrs. Sinclair."
I scoffed. "Is that supposed to scare me?"
He smirked. "Just wait until I have my way with you tonight, love."
It wasn't a challenge, but a promise.
My breath hitched but I walked past him with a confident smile.
"We'll see about that, Mr. Sinclair," I called over my shoulder and swayed my hips while walking out of the room.
"Damn," He muttered.
He was following behind me closely as I went downstairs and waited for the elevators. The doors opened and we quickly slipped inside.
The tension in the air was thick as I could feel him cutting glances at me.
I released a breath when the elevators opened again and we stepped outside. Jeremy and the other two guards were waiting for us in two different cars.
Jeremy was going to chauffeur us while Bruce and Oliver were going to follow us in the other car.
Me and Alec slipped into the backseat and Jeremy started driving.
I looked down at my phone to check time. "We're late."
Alec raised a brow at me. "Tell me about it."
I narrowed my gaze for a moment. "It takes time to get ready. And I made it worth your while, didn't I?"
A small smile twitched the corners of his lips. "You sure did."
He placed his hand on my exposed thigh causing me to gulp in excitement.
"Alec," I playfully warned him.
"Scarlet," He mocked my tone.
"What are you doing?" I whispered, hoping Jeremy couldn't hear us.
"Nothing," He shrugged, trailing his fingers along my knee down to my calf.
Taking in a deep breath, I gripped his hand tightly but it obviously did not stop his muscular one from teasing me.
My breath hitched as he continued his playful torture.
Not being able to take it anymore, I swinged my legs on top of the seat, placed my hands ahead them and faced Alec in a cat like position.
Before he could comprehend, I crawled in his direction and placed my hand on his thigh, dangerously close to him.
Alec suddenly jerked up in his seat. I was leaning over him and pretended to look out of the window, all the while feeling his gaze on me.
"Tit for tat," I muttered while slipping back into my old position.
Once I was settled, Alec leaned in closer to my ear.
"You just made waiting for the night a whole lot harder."
I flushed. "That was the plan."
He ran his fingers through my hair, watching me closely. "I'll get you out of that dress, Scarlet. Just like I did in Barbados."
If I was blushing before, I must have turned into a tomato after he said that. Just the mention of that night caused tingles in my body.
That was a very special night to me.
And just the thought of Alec remembering that too warmed my heart.
I was smiling through the rest of the ride and Alec was totally aware of it. He kept glancing at me, seeming amused himself.
We reached the party within the next few minutes, which was held at a grand place. I couldn't help but be in awe of the beautiful flower decoration.
The moment we entered, Walter and Nicole greeted us together.
"You look so beautiful, Scarlet," She gave me a hug.
"Not as beautiful as you, Nicole. I love your dress. Did you design it?" I asked, eyeing the blush pink gown.
"Yes," She flushed when Walter placed a kiss on her cheek.
"Her work is as beautiful as her," He spoke.
"Undoubtedly," I agreed.
After some more chit chat, me and Alec stepped into the large hall.
Thankfully, the bodyguards had given us some space but they were still keeping a close watch on us.
Alec started meeting his work people but this time, he kept me by his side and introduced me to everyone as his wife.
I should definitely stop smiling like a fool.
I grabbed a drink from the bar when we were standing close to it but Alec stopped me. "What are you doing, Scarlet?"
"It's just one drink," I shrugged.
He took the glass from my hand and placed it back on the counter. "As much as I love your drunken confessions-" He started, causing a blush to form on my cheeks.
"-I need you sober tonight," He winked at me.
I pressed my lips into a thin line to stop myself from laughing. "Why is that?"
"Because I don't want you to call me a necrophile in the morning tomorrow."
My jaw dropped. "First, I wouldn't get that drunk and second, even if I did, would you still fuck me in that state?"
I gaped at him and he chuckled.
"You've given me enough chances to do that, Scarlet. Don't you think I would have taken one already?"
I nodded in realization, suddenly getting a flashback of some night. Or was it a dream?
"Alec, did I ever ask you to take advantage of me?" I muttered in confusion.
"Not exactly but you were the one who wanted to take advantage of me because I was sober."
"Oh God," I groaned, burying my face into my hands in embarrassment.
He laughed at me and after a few seconds, brought my hands down to look at me.
"If it makes you feel any better, I liked it when you said that. I found it pretty hot to be honest."
"Sure you did," I rolled my eyes and then turned around at the voice.
All the people focused their attention in the centre when Walter clinked his glass with a fork.
Nicole was standing at his side, grinning.
I knew what was going to happen right then. As Walter announced that they were going to get married, the crowd started applauding and congratulating them one by one.
"Aw," I lifted my hands up to my chest.
That's how I'd always dreamt about announcing my marriage. Also, having a huge engagement party and smiling all the while people congratulated me and my fiancé.
And not....getting married in a haste.
I realized that I was frowning and felt Alec squeeze my hand. I blinked and looked at him.
His expression said it all. He knew exactly what was going on in my mind.
He looked guilty and I didn't like it.
So what if I couldn't have those temporary things that people would forget about the very next day?
I had something permanent that was beautiful and I loved it. I loved Alec.
I put a huge smile on my face. "Let's go and congratulate them," I took his hand and dragged him towards the centre of the hall.
They both looked really happy to see us as they gave us a hearty hug. After that, we left them alone to let other people greet them.
I was having a really good time walking around the place with my arm looped around Alec's.
We stopped at the dance floor and I found him snaking his arm around my waist. "Can I have this dance?"
"You already are," I chuckled while lifting my hands up to his shoulders carefully so I wouldn't hurt him.
"You're smiling profusely today," Alec pointed out. "I like it."
I shrugged. "Guess I'm happy."
"About what?"
"About everything. This," I pointed between us. "This thing that we have, I just never pictured myself being so happy. Not with you atleast."
He let out a laugh but it didn't reach his eyes.
"That was a joke," I clarified.
He nodded, looking away.
"And," I continued. "I realized that everything will fall in place eventually even if you don't see it happening in the beginning. When I married you, all I felt like was being trapped for a lifetime. But now.....it's like I couldn't ask for anything better."
I cupped my hands around his cheeks as he looked down at me. "I love you so much, Alec."
His face held a frown as he tightened his arms around me protectively.
He opened his mouth to say something but his phone rang.
He fished it out of his pocket and stared at the screen in confusion. "It's an unknown number."
The music in the place was loud.
"Go get it," I spoke. "I'll wait for you here."
He nodded and left the dance floor. I stood there looking at the other couples dancing. Especially Nicole and Walter, who seemed to be the happiest out there. They looked really good together.
I couldn't help but smile.
Just then, my phone buzzed.
There was a text from an unknown number.
I opened it.
Hope you said a proper goodbye this time before he left the dance floor.
My eyes grew wide.
What the hell!
I suddenly had a very bad gut feeling as I looked around the room for Alec desperately but he was nowhere to be found.
I ran outside the building and called out his name.
Oh God! Please let him be okay.
Tears pooled in my eyes as my body shivered in the cold outside.
"Alec," I called out as my voice gave my weak demeanor away.
I can't lose him.
"Alec," I called again and tears were streaming down my face now.
And then, everything seemed to have stopped when I spotted him in the corner, talking over his phone.
A surprised laugh broke out on my lips as I wiped my tears and started walking in his direction.
But stopped abruptly when I saw a shadow beside him.
He was too busy talking over the phone to notice. I looked closely and found someone in a black hood walking up to him.
My heart stopped beating and then picked up at twice its rate as I stood there frozen.
As the person walked towards Alec, I saw the baseball bat in her hand.
"ALEC!"
I screamed but it was too late.
Hello there!
What do you think will happen next?
