Bonus Chapter 2
I was so used to waking up in the middle of the night that when Nick's crying didn't wake me up, I got out of the bed to check up on him.
Alec wasn't in the room either.
Nick's nursery was right next to our room and the moment I stepped outside, I could hear Alec's voice.
Which was then followed by a soft giggle.
"He is such a wonder, Nick. You know, how he suddenly made their lives so much better just by being in it."
I carefully peeked my head into the dimly lit nursery.
Alec was sitting on the couch, holding Nick in his arms securely so his tiny head was resting on Alec's chest.
Nick listened carefully to Alec as if he understood it all and then, was looking everywhere around the room with his innocent blue eyes. The feature he got from Alec.
Then, his eyelids slowly dropped.
"He didn't do much, Nick. All he did was sleep," Alec let out a soft chuckle.
"Just like right now, he's sleeping in his father's arms," He muttered softly.
He gently soothed down Nick's back and tilted his head down to kiss his forehead.
Aw! Where's my phone when I need it?
"Now, you know who I'm talking about, don't you, son?"
He brought his chin down to Nick's shoulder and just gave him a hug.
"Goodnight, Nick. Your dad loves you."
He looked up and his eyes landed on me, a small smile forming on his lips.
Getting up, he carefully placed Nick in his crib, watched him for a few seconds and then walked up in my direction.
"Did I wake you?" Placing his arms around my waist, he pecked my lips.
My hands went up to his shoulders as I watched him with a smile.
"No you didn't."
"Okay. Now come on. Get some sleep. You must be tired."
"Yeah. Although I'm surprised you managed to put him back to sleep. And also a little impressed."
"I got my tricks," Alec winked at me.
"Really?" I narrowed my eyes playfully.
"You want me to show you some of them?" He suddenly pinned me against the wall and brought his mouth down to my neck.
I gasped in surprise, closing my eyes and angling my face up to give him better access.
His fingers started rubbing circles against my waist and I let out a moan.
"Shh," He suddenly pulled back and looked into the nursery.
My eyes grew wide. "Please don't tell me I woke him up."
"You didn't."
I sighed in relief.
"Let's take this to the room," Alec smiled down at me.
I didn't need to be told twice.
The next morning, I was preparing Nick's baby cereal and Alec had offered to bathe him today.
Nick was so fond of him. Sometimes, I envied Alec.
"Good morning, Scarlet," A chirpy voice greeted.
I looked up. "Good morning, Martha."
"What's Nick doing?"
I shrugged. "Probably enjoying his father's company."
She chuckled.
"Did you hear that Nick?"
I turned around to the source of voice. Alec was carrying Nick downstairs. His hair and tshirt were soaked wet while Nick was all tidy in his cute little shorts and tshirt.
"Your mommy's complaining," Alec made a funny face and Nick giggled.
I tried to suppress a smile.
"What? I'm so not," I spoke.
"You so are," He carefully placed Nick on his feeding booster chair which was right next to the dining table and tied a bib around his neck.
I took the cereal and lifted the spoon to his mouth but he looked away, causing the contents to stick to his cheek.
"Ugh," I groaned, wiping it away.
"Nick, please," I let out a cry.
I tried again and thankfully, my child took some mercy on me this time.
"Here choose," Alec placed his ipad infront of Nick.
I looked at the screen.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm letting him choose the theme for his first birthday party."
"Already? But he doesn't turn one until 5 more months."
"Doesn't mean we can't start planning."
Nick randomly tapped on the screen while eating his cereal.
"Hmm good choice," Alec smiled down at him and stroked his cheek.
Alec quickly had his breakfast and went upstairs to get ready for work.
Nick refused to eat more and I sighed, taking a break to get a cup of coffee.
When I came back, Alec was downstairs, ready to leave.
"See you in the evening," He gave me a quick kiss and went over to Nick. The moment he leaned down to kiss his forehead, Nick raised the cereal spoon, causing its contents to land on Alec's business suit.
"Oh no," Alec groaned.
"See? I told you it's his plan to stop you from going to work," I gasped.
"Don't be ridiculous. He's not old enough to be 'planning' stuff. He does it by accident."
"Five days in a row?"
Alec shook his head at me. "I'll go and change."
"And you," He looked down at Nick. "You won't get a goodbye kiss next time."
He seemed to be carefully listening to his father and the moment Alec went upstairs, Nick started crying.
And by crying, I mean literally howling like a wolf in pain. I had to keep wiping his tears every few minutes and rock him in my arms so he would stop sobbing.
When Alec came downstairs, he practically tried to jump out of my arms and extended his arms out to Alec.
"Oh come here," Alec quickly came up to us and took him in his arms.
The little devil stopped crying.
Alec wiped his tears away and Nick placed his head on his chest.
"It's okay. Daddy's right here," He kept whispering things in his ear until he was sleepy and then, he carried him up to his nursery and put him to sleep.
"I should go before he wakes up," He spoke while walking towards the front door.
"Right. All the love for Nick and none for Scarlet," I pouted.
Alec stopped in his tracks, turned around, took long strides in my direction and gave me a long, passionate kiss.
We were breathless when he pulled back.
His eyes flickered with want and he looked down at his watch.
"You know what. I'm already late so it doesn't matter if I don't go at all-"
"I was kidding," I chuckled.
"I am not," His eyes darkened.
"What?" I muttered.
He took my hand and kissed my knuckles, holding my gaze all the while.
That look.
It was enough to make me go weak in the knees.
He started leaning forward but just then, his phone rang.
He pulled it out in frustration and held it up to his ear. "Yes?"
He frowned. "Now? Can't it wait?"
"Fine," He sighed and hung up.
"Scarlet, I'm sorry I have to go," He placed his hand on my cheek.
"It's okay. Go. I'll see you in the evening."
In the evening...
"What is the matter?" Alec raised a brow the moment he walked in through the front door, eyeing the house staff gathered in the living room.
"It's Nick," My voice was shaky.
His eyes grew wide. "What happened to him? Where is he?"
"We can't find him."
"What the hell do you mean you can't find him? He's a child. He can barely crawl. Where could he go?"
Tears were already rolling down my cheeks.
"I-I don't know. I was playing hide and seek with him just like you do sometimes and he crawled away within 10 seconds. I've searched the entire house, Alec."
Something seemed to have dawned on him as the panic left his face.
"It's been an hour. I can't find him. Please do something," I sobbed.
"I know where he is," Alec sighed.
"What? Where?"
He started walking towards the sitting area in the living room. In a corner, which was surrounded by couches, there was a small decor table.
He bent down and retrieved a sleeping Nick from under the table.
"Come here, you wicked little thing," Alec chuckled.
I gasped at the sight of him. Thank God he's not actually kidnapped.
I wasted no time in taking him in my arms and raining kisses on his sleepy face.
"You scared the crap out of me," I muttered to him and he stirred in his sleep.
"How did you know?" I asked Alec.
He scratched the back of his neck. "It's not the first time he did that. That's actually his favourite hiding spot. I was just as freaked out as you when I couldn't find him last week."
I couldn't help but laugh through my tears.
Nick stirred again and I looked at him.
His blue eyes opened slowly and he looked around, a huge smile forming on his face when he saw Alec.
His lips parted as he let out a breath which was followed by an incoherent sound, almost like he was going to say something.
Our eyes grew wide and Alec took a step closer.
"Is he going to say mommy?" I cooed.
"Say mommy," Alec stroked his cheek gently.
Nick giggled at Alec.
"Come on, buddy," He smiled down at him.
When Nick didn't say anything, we both let out a laugh.
"Atleast listen to your dad," I muttered in his ear.
"D-Dad...."
Sigh.
Five Years Later
I covered my face from the sunlight.
Opening my eyes, I looked at Alec's side of the bed and frowned upon finding it empty.
Has he left for work already?
Just then, my eyes caught the crib in the corner of the room. Confused, I walked up to it and smiled down at who was staring back at me.
"Hey, baby," I picked up my six months old daughter.
"What are you doing in mommy's room, Emmie?"
She let out a tiny yawn and shut her eyes.
Emilia was the prettiest little thing I had ever seen. When I found out I was pregnant again, I--all of us had really hoped for a little girl.
Especially Nick, he wanted a little sister.
I stroked her cheek with my thumb and then, finally I saw something else in her crib. It was a greeting card.
I smiled at the message on it.
Happy Birthday, mommy.
The door to the room opened and Alec and Nick walked in, holding a cake.
"Happy Birthday, mom!" Nick ran up to me and gave me a hug.
"Aw thank you, Nick."
My eyes met Alec's who was smiling at the three of us.
"Happy Birthday, love," He gave me a peck on the lips, then pulled away reluctantly, saving rest for the kid free zone probably.
I blushed.
"Thank you all and especially you," I looked down at the little one in my arms.
"Here let me hold her. You cut the cake," Alec took her from my arms as the four of us gathered around the cake.
"Hey there, princess," He smiled down at her.
"Let me hold her, dad," Nick said.
"Nope."
He pouted. "Please."
"No. You'll drop her."
"She's my little sister. I'm a responsible guy now."
"With tiny hands," Alec pointed out.
Nick looked down at his hands and then looked up at Alec again. "What do you mean?"
"Nick," He spoke. "I said no."
He sighed. "Fine. I get it. It's revenge for beating you at the new gaming console you brought, isn't it?"
"No no no, Nick," Alec sighed. "Revenge was putting melted chocolate in your hair while we were baking this cake."
Nick's eyes grew wide as his hands went up to his hair but there was nothing.
"Gotcha," Alec winked.
He sighed in relief and turned to me with a frown. "Mommy," He pouted.
Nick was hair conscious.
"Alec," I scolded him.
He just chuckled at the both of us. "Come on now. Cut the cake."
"Okay," I rubbed my hands excitedly and cut the cake.
"Make a wish," Nick jumped in excitement.
I looked up at Alec. "I already have everything I've ever wanted."
His lips pulled up into a proud smile.
To my surprise, the cake was way too good and I realized that Martha had probably helped them.
We spent the day watching different movies and ordering take out.
We could have gone out but with baby Emilia, it was much more comfortable to just stay at home. Not like I was complaining. Because yeah, I was still a lazy ass.
"Dad?" Nick suddenly started while we were having dinner.
"Yeah?"
"Was mom your girlfriend before you got married?"
I almost choked on my food.
Alec cleared his throat. "No. Why?"
Nick blinked. "Then what was she?"
"Yeah, Alec. What was I?" I teased him.
"Um she was-" He looked between the two of us. "-an old friend."
I smirked.
"So you just propose an old friend for marriage?" Nick raised a brow.
"Um yeah? I guess."
I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing at how this conversation was making Alec uncomfortable.
"Really? And you said yes, mom?" He turned to me.
"I had no choice," I shrugged.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means that the moment he stepped into my life, the moment we first talked-" I looked at Alec. "-there was no going back."
"Right. I wouldn't let her go away from me," He smiled.
A blush formed on my cheeks.
"I'm glad you didn't."
My heart warmed at the way he was looking at me.
"So you never had a girlfriend, dad?" Nick asked.
"Of course I did."
"Great," He rubbed his hands excitedly. "Did you have many?"
I raised a brow at Alec.
He shrugged innocently. "Yes, Nick. What is your point?"
"I need advice."
"Excuse me?" I raised a brow.
"There are a lot of pretty girls at school," he smirked.
Me and Alec exchanged looks.
"Infact, can we go to California for the next vacation? Or Barbados?" Nick spoke with excitement.
"Why?" Alec asked.
"Hello," Nick rolled his eyes. "Beaches is equal to girls. Pretty girls," He smirked.
"You're five," I deadpanned.
"Exactly. Five years is an awful long time to have remained single."
What the-
I sighed.
"I'm out of here," I declared and went upstairs to Emilia.
She was sleeping peacefully and I just sat there watching her in awe when the door to our room opened.
Alec stepped inside. "I haven't given you your present yet."
He sat down beside me and handed me a small wrapped gift.
I opened it and a smile formed on my lips at the sight of the pendant.
It had the initials A and S.
I couldn't help but remember the watch I had gifted him once on his birthday.
"Is that Alec Sinclair?" I teased.
"Maybe," He shrugged. "Turn it over."
On the back, there were two more initials. N and E.
"Nick and Emilia," I muttered under my breath.
"Did you realize we all make a SANE family?"
It took me a while to understand that.
Laughing, I placed my head on his chest and shut my eyes.
"I love you, Alec."
"I love you, Scarlet." He muttered and kissed my forehead. "Thank you for being a feisty little girl and drawing me into your life."
I pulled back and narrowed my eyes playfully.
"Thank you for being a jerk and forcing your way into my life."
He chuckled.
"You're welcome, love."
I shook my head with a smile and placed my head on his chest once again.
Just where would I be without him.
This was perfect.
