Marriage AU (One-Shot)

This is going to be fucking cheesy because I'm a helpless romantic. Sorry I don't make the rules

"This thing is so far up my ass I'm going to be plucking lint from my-".

"Mike!" Jeremy yelled, kicking the man at his side with a disgruntled huff. His small hands were buried in your hair as he desperately tried to make it look decent, his bangs clipped back from his eyes so he could see what he was doing.

Mike grunted, pulling at his suit with a deep setting frown. It was awkward seeing the man in something other than his work uniform or baggy sweats, both of which adorned gross stains. The clothing he had on now was pristine and crisp, every inch of a gentleman which he most certainly was not.

"I'm just saying, if I have to surgically remove this later on-" Mike began, only stopping once Jeremy grabbed the hairspray and gave it a small pump in his direction. The cloud of spray hovered in the air as the blue-eyed male swatted wildly, coughing dryly as he inhaled it.

"Mike, heels or not I will beat your ass" You muttered, glaring out the corner of your eye as Jeremy held your head still. The beginnings of a neck ache tingled along your spine from sitting still for so long.

From nearby, the kitten you and Vincent had saved two years ago sat patiently, now full-grown and slightly threatening. After all, it was a bobcat, just a tamed one.

"He even managed to squeeze the fucking cat into a suit!?" Mike yelled, motioning wildly to Vince as he lounged in the sun. Yellow eyes glanced over with a nonchalant expression, turning away once realizing he wasn't needed. His body was decked in a little suit that Vincent insisted was a must have, Fritz still had a scratch along his arm as evidence of the struggle.

Jeremy gave one final tug before pulling away, spraying wildly at your hair with the hairspray. The sound made Vince jump up with a hiss, back arching at what he thought was a threatening animal. Mike simply grumbled from where he sat.

"Well Vince is part of the family too, so suck it up" You stated, standing from your seat with a few pops. The dress around your legs swayed and rumpled down like a cascading waterfall, softly hitting the floor in a white puddle. Hopefully you could walk in it without tripping.

Carefully, you made your way over to a nearby mirror, grabbing handfuls of your gown to have better mobility. Your heels clicked with every footfall like a ticking clock, only emphasizing the small window of time there was left before the ceremony.

"Wow" You whispered, eyes examining your hair and makeup with unrestrained awe. It was almost as if somebody else was looking at you through the mirror, someone beautiful and elegant.

Moments passed before Jeremy joined you in the mirror, eyes becoming wet and smile growing even wider. Just at his side stood Mike, trying to hide the fact he was also choking up, if his constipated expression was anything to go by.

"You look absolutely stunning, Vincent is going to love it" The smaller male spoke softly, emerald green eyes blinking rapidly to chase away the incoming tears. It was just like the young adult to get emotional over something like this, he was a child at heart. One of his greatest and softest qualities.

Mike shuffled slightly in his spot, "If he hurts you I'll kick his ass, alright?". The statement was crass and blunt, but it was by far the most expressive thing regarding feelings the man had ever shown. No matter how vulgar and rude he may get, he still cares for those he loves.

Your lips trembled as you turned around, opening your arms and waving them forward. Jeremy was the first to come forward, squeezing you tightly in a way that expressed how much he cared. His hair tickled your nose just as Mike crossed the room, lips upturning just slightly as he wrapped his arms around both you and Jeremy.

Happy laughter rang across the room as the older male picked the both of you up and swung around, it was like you had two precautionary brothers of you own. One was shy and dorky, but fearsome all the same. The other was violent and crass, but also protective and brave.

The sound of a door opening stopped the moment, a frail woman walking in the room with a bright smile. "It's time, miss" She cooed, waiting patiently as you looked at your two friends. Both smiled and waved, giving promises to be in the crowd.

"Okay" You whispered, taking a deep breath before reaching forward, taking the elder lady's hand within your own. It was cold yet comforting, her presence radiating warmth and happiness.

With one more wave, you were off, being led gingerly through corridors and halls filled with paintings and other miscellaneous objects. Nerves and anxiety plucked at your brain in hopes of striking through, only making you stand taller. This was your moment.

"Now enter that door right there and your father will lead you to the alter, I give you my blessings and wishes for a happy and healthy future" The woman spoke in almost a murmur, wrinkled eyes softening as she smiled. Oddly, it was consoling to your currently anxious state, whisking away most of your worries.

You nodded thoughtfully, walking away slowly towards the awaiting door. Everything felt oddly light and vibrant, almost as if your were walking on air. You knew this was unrealistic since the shoes you had on were going to kill your feet later on.

"Let's do this" You breathed, fingers grasping onto the cold handle of each door. With one final inhale, you swung them open, immediate making eye contact with your father. His hands were wringing and his tie was crooked, signs of worry and anxiety showing through the form of pit stains.

Despite your current situation, you chuckled, crossing the room with deliberate steps. It was amusing to find someone who was even more worried than you as of the moment. Especially since you were the one getting married.

"I'm gonna have to change my clothes later" He chuckled, holding out his arms to further prove his point. It wasn't only his pits that had stains, it was also his back and neck. It was kind of gross.

"Jeez, I haven't seen you this sweaty since mom found out about you skipping family night to go watch football" You snickered, linking arms with him as you stopped at his side. Despite his sweaty clothes, he smelled and looked clean. As long as he kept his arms down it wouldn't be as noticeable.

He chuckled, his other arm extending over to place his hand on your elbow. It was a loving gesture that used to calm you down as a child.

Before any more words could be exchanged, the music outside began, signaling for your appearance. It rattled the floors and your confidence, shoulders slumping slightly as all the anxiety came crashing down. What if you tripped? What if you stuttered? What if your makeup was smeared?

"Hey" Your father called, alerting your attention fully, "Keep that chin up and walk down that aisle like a goddess". You couldn't help but smile, squeezing his arm a little before straightening your shoulders and spine, putting on a big smile.

The doors opened with a loud creak, making you shuffle forward in time to become immersed in cool air and staring gazes. All eyes were on you as you swayed forward, some wet with tears while others were bright with happiness.

Your gaze landed on Vincent, his awaiting form standing idly at the alter. His hair was styled out of his face so you could see his eyes better, body adorning a suit that complimented his features nicely. He looked absolutely handsome.

Suddenly, a goofy smile stretched along his face, eyes practically glowing with happiness. His hands clenched together and his posture straightened. Both eyes were trained solely on you, not sparing a glance to anybody else.

Somebody in the crowd gave a loud holler, making you look over in time to witness Fritz cheering in the front row. His curly ginger hair was slicked back in a way that made him look older and more mature. His actions proved otherwise.

After what felt like an eternity, you finally made it to the alter, standing just at Vincent's side. Your father leaned over to whisper something in his ear, both nodding before the elder of the two backed away. His retreating form settled down somewhere up front.

Suddenly, a hand grasped your own, making you glance over in time to witness Vincent's beaming smile. "You look gorgeous" He whispered, keeping it down as the priest did his speech. It droned on as background noise as you giggled, giving the hand in your own a small squeeze.

"And you look handsome" You muttered, smiling widely before turning forward. Even though you couldn't see, you could feel Vincent's eyes on you. It filled you with love and slight confidence, sending a small wink in the process.

The speech babbled on for quite some time, leaving you antsy and slightly uncomfortable. Standing in heels for so long was beginning to hurt, and the room was steadily getting warmer it seemed. You just hoped the priest would finally get through it all.

"And now, the vows" He suddenly boomed, making you snap upwards unintentionally. Your cheeks went red at being caught off guard, scolding yourself for zoning out during your own wedding. In your defense it was quite boring.

Vincent shuffled where he stood, clearing his throat loudly for all in the room to hear. He bodily turned to face you, other hand coming out so both of your palms rested in his own. Thumbs shot out to caress your knuckles softly.

"Well, how do I begin" He started, chuckling nervously as laughter rang in the room. From nearby, Mike let out a whoop, the shushing of Jeremy following soon after. It only fueled your fiancé's confidence.

"All of this started with a job I absolutely despised, I was a bad person who had done many bad things. It seemed as if the world was out to get me and maybe I wouldn't get to have a family or love at all. I was surrounded by sweaty coworkers and children that weren't my own for most of my career, everything droned on like a pattern that soon became boring and useless. Then all that changed once this beautiful girl walked in, for what seemed like an eternity a female had walked into my workplace who wasn't either married with children or old enough to be a part of the building. She taught me how to love the world and myself in the process, she accepted me for my flaws and showed me her own. Things that should have sent her running only brought her closer, she dared to love somebody who was deemed unlovable to many. As clique as it may sound, she taught me how to love. I never thought I'd be here ever in my life, let alone beside someone as beautiful and sweet as this girl. I'll make sure I hold her close and keep her happy, because to me she is both a goddess and an angel, I couldn't ask for more". The speech ended with a small voice crack, Vincent looking at the ground as he wiped his face on his sleeve. Through it all his smile had stayed.

Your bottom lip trembled as you looked at your interlaced fingers, eyes becoming wet as you fought the tears. "I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to get through this without crying but here we go. Words cannot describe how happy you have made me feel over the course of our relationship. You were always there when I needed you and even there when I didn't, you made sure I was happy every single day and always did something when I was not. Every time you degrade yourself it hurts me, because you are perfect, there is no reason for you to think otherwise. You have a heart of gold no matter what your past may hold. The fact I get to spend the rest of my life with you is beyond my comprehension, I never thought I'd get to be with someone like you. Yet here I am."

You ended with a small sob, cursing as a tear slid down your cheek. Jeremy worked hard on your makeup yet here you were, blubbering in front of your soon to be husband.

Murmurs rang through the crowd as you rested your head on Vincent's shoulder, allowing him to whisper soothingly in your ear. Some people clapped and others hollered approvingly, making the priest shush them gently.

"Bring out the rings" He called, making you look over in time to witness Vince trot in the room. On his back was strapped a tiny belt that held both rings, each glistening underneath the lights. His agile body hopped up the steps before sitting beside your leg and rubbing against it with a purr.

Vincent bent down carefully, grabbing your ring with one hand while the other gently patted Vince's head. You did the same, standing up straight as you clutched the ring in your fist like it could keep you from crying in a very ugly fashion. It dug within your palm with a cold feeling.

Slowly, Vincent raised your hand, resting it in his palm as he gave it a small kiss. Once done, he slipped the ring in his grasp on your ring finger, his hand shaking slightly. Once done, he placed another kiss on the gold band, whispering something beneath his breath.

Once it was your turn, you gave a long exhale, willing away your shakiness as you held the ring between your fingers. You raised Vincent's hand as you ran a thumb along the lines of his palm, looking at it lovingly.

"I love you" You whispered, slipping the ring on his finger gently. The pads of your fingers brushed against the length of his knuckle and skin, coming to a stop as the gold band was fully on. It glistened in the light in a pretty way that made you smile.

Finally, the priest said his final words, closing his book with a thud before gesturing to the crowd. "You may kiss the bride".

Vincent put on a grin, arms extending as he wrapped them around your waist, picking you up. You squealed, being swung around in a large circle that made you slightly dizzy.

Once you were brought down, your new husband gave a beaming smile, nose almost touching your own. His hands ran along your sides in a loving manner just as he bent down, kissing you full of love and happiness. The crowd erupted into cheers as you wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed back, enjoying the feeling of the ring on your finger and the lips on your own.

As you separated, Vincent leaned his forehead against your own, chuckling happily. "I love you" he rasped, bringing your close in a hug.

You smiled wide, "I love you too". The crowd continued cheering even after you and your new husband began to walk back down the aisle, throwing flowers and confetti. The entire time your thumb rested on his ring while he continued to brush his lips along the band on your own.

What ever was to come, you knew it would be fine. Because as long as you had Vincent, everything would be fine.

This was rushed, I'm home alone and it's dark and I'm too old to be scared but fuck yeah I am. I tried my best and like it said, it's short and rushed. My cats are currently cuddling me as I'm in my scared as fuck state, because all is fine. (No it isn't save me)
