Grade (1) A Idiots
Some things never change, like how long it takes to cook pizza rolls in the toaster oven on it's highest setting. Okay, so that was a bad example, but what else was Izuku supposed to think when he was waking up at this godforsaken time and that was the only thing in the freezer? He yawned as he watched the orange glow and listened to the ticking the machine made as it was cooking his breakfast.
"That shouldn't be the first thing you put in your body after you wake up."
Izuku blinked slowly, not really caring about the misty man behind him.
"Says the one who lets Tomura eat nothing but pop tarts all day."
He heard a grumble about how he 'doesn't let him do anything of the sort' but Izuku didn't say anything else, as the toaster oven dinged and took his attention. He quickly grabbed his plate and shoveled all the rolls onto it and carried it to the bar. Not really caring about how hot they were, he popped one into his mouth.
"New quirk?"
Izuku nodded and blew the steam from his mouth.
"Sensei said it would benefit me to have a tolerance to heat... It doesn't stop it completely but it works I guess."
"And you're using it to be impatient and not just... wait for your food to cool down?"
Izuku shrugged and finished off his breakfast before going to brush his teeth.
Kurogiri sighed and finished preparing the glassware for the day, giving Izuku a look when he stepped from the bathroom that asked if he was ready to go.
-----
Things started out fine today, great even. He had eaten a perfectly balanced breakfast and warped—by help of Kurogiri— to school at a great time. He thought it would be smooth sailing, but no. Not at all. Again he was reminded that some things really don't ever change, especially when those things are with an old bully of his.
As soon as he opened the doors to that classroom, he was greeted with ruby eyes that were filled to the brim with shock and anger. He had even stopped talking to the entitled robo-boy and had stood right out of his chair.
"What the hell are you doing here Deku!?"
Izuku gave the other boy a confused look, staring at him like he had grown another head.
"Who's Deku? Do I know you from somewhere?"
The pure unfiltered anger that showed on the blond was larger than anything Izuku had ever seen. Thankfully there were more people in the class that were just as confused by the hostility.
Speaking of other people, they started to flock around him and talk to him, the before mentioned robo-boy was the first to speak to him introducing himself as Tenya Iida and apologizing for his behavior from before the entrance exam had started.
Izuku smiled brightly and a bit awkwardly and told him there wasn't anything to worry about and that it was all water under the bridge, but Izuku was sure if he hadn't made it to the Hero course then there wouldn't have been anything of an apology.
The gravity manipulator walked into the room and was happy to see Izuku had made it, thanking him again for saving her.
It wasn't long before they were all introduced and their teacher walked into class in all his gruffy non-caring glory. He had mega bags under his eyes and was...in a sleeping bag that was a gaudy yellow.
Before Izuku knew what was going on, they were being told to go to the field.
----
"If you're in last place, I'll expel you."
Those words made Izuku want to laugh, of fucking course he would be given this asshole of a teacher.
Muttering all around and whispers of if he could really expel any student swirled around and filled the air. Izuku inwardly sighed, of course he could!
The first test to throw a ball was something that Izuku wouldn't be good at with only the two quirks he was 'allowed' to use... but he had been training and building muscle all summer and he wouldn't be last place on this, at least.
Before the last test could be held, one of the girl's skirts ripped and was all too tempting for a boy with balls for hair not to take advantage of. Apparently, he had gone behind her and not even told her it was ripped, he was just standing there reaching out when a boy with red spiked up hair had caught him. Aizawa was not impressed and had sent him to the principal's office... where they then continued the tests.
After that, it seems like the grumpy man in all black was lying about expelling them, but did scold the person in last place, a boy with blonde hair and a naval laser.
----
"So what is your quirk Midoriya?" Another boy had asked him curiously as they had all talked once they had gotten back in the classroom. This boy was named Kaminari. Maybe? He had blonde-yellow hair with black in his bangs. That seemed to get everyone's attention.
"Yea, I didn't see you use it at all!" A Bubbly girl named Ashido exclaimed, she had pink skin and hair and seemed like a social butterfly.
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck and pretended to be bashful, a slight redness coming to his cheeks. He really wasn't used to all this attention.. so that helped.
"I actually have...two quirks..."
The class made a bunch of different sounds of exclamation and shock, some in question and others in awe.
"What?!"
Katsuki yelled, his hands smoking from almost using his quirk as he slammed them onto the table.
"Uh...yea... they didn't manifest until the end of school last year-- But I do have them!"
The entire class began to ask him what they were and asking him how he found out and it was all just a lot of voices all at once.
"W-well One is called Analisis...I guess you could say it was kind of, half dormant my whole life? I analyze things and they are permanently in my memory and it allows me to even analyze muscle movement...and its all in real time!"
"Oh, that's cool! It's like you're super smart!" The gravity girl said, for some reason, Izuku just couldn't remember her name. Uraraka?
"I wouldn't say super smart.. just above average."
There were more questions about what his other quirk was, and if he could show them, but before he could say anything the next class session started and they were all going to their seats.
——
"A bunch of idiots."
"What did you say?"
Izuku groaned and lifted his head from the spot where it was resting against the bar, looking at Tomura with dead eyes.
"That class is a bunch of gullible idiots."
That caused the blue haired villain to laugh, and shrug his shoulders.
"What did you expect?"
"I expected the teachers to catch on, at least! For gods sakes, no child can be that annoyingly bright-faced!"
Again Tomura laughed, and continued laughing until tears formed in his eyes. He listened to Izuku rant about the class, how they were all so blind to the real world.
"You're a good actor, kid. Plus ultra."
"Ugh don't say that! I've heard that so many times already today."
"What about the kids quirks?"
The sudden question made the atmosphere serious, it was a sharp turn out of nowhere that was expected of Tomura.
"I'll write a full detailed report tonight and give it to you and sensei in the morning before school."
"Give it to Kurogiri, I'll be asleep."
Izuku waved his hand in reply, he already knew that his friend would be asleep until noon.
"So... how are you going to deal with All Might. He's one of your teachers, right?"
Izuku grimaced. He really didn't want to deal with that entire can of worms right now. He still wasn't sure how he would go about interacting with the hero. Should he act like a guarded fanboy... perhaps acting like he still believed in the hero but was a little weary around him wouldn't be too suspicious.
He would deal with that when he crossed that bridge... for now he had to train. He really didn't want to think of what was in store for him tomorrow.
——
"I am here! Coming through the door like a normal person!"
All Might announced as he entered the classroom, making Izuku push down a twitch in his eye and replace it with a look of admiration.
"Today, we will be training, so go get changed into your Hero Costumes!"
His voice was so... loud.
—-
In the changing room, all the guys were just making small talk and slight banter.
"Woah! What's that scar from?!"
Sero, the tape boy asked as he saw the large red and pink scar the stretched along Izuku's shoulder.
"You can't just ask people stuff like that, bro!"
Kirishima said in a pointed but calm tone as the question seemed to still the room.
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck, which seemed to be a trademark thing he was doing now, and made a noise of indecisiveness.
"Look, man, you don't have to tell us—"
"No, it's fine... I actually got this when a friend of mine burned me. He had said that I shouldn't try to be anything because they thought I was quirkless at the time. He... even told me to swan dive off the roof of a building and hope I got a quirk in my next life, once."
The room was deadly silent, you could hear a needle drop from outside. It was cold, too, literally it was cold. Like someone had turned down the temperature by a few degrees.
"I'm sorry, bro, bullies suck! Who was it?"
"I... don't want to say. They really want to be a hero and I don't know if they've changed since then but I also can't remember much about them, I think my brain blocked out his face and name anyway so-"
There was a loud bang of the door being slammed shut.
"Man I wonder what got his panties in a twist."
"Eh that's just Bakugo, I think he's always like that."
The topic of conversation then went to costumes and it was mostly cheerful banter.
Izuku had to hide his malicious grin, he knew that kaachan was smart enough to figure out that if Izuku ever remembered or if he ever wanted, he could make it very difficult for Bakugo to be taken seriously as a Hero.
—-
Izuku inwardly groaned. Why him? He just had to be paired up against his beloved old friend Kaachan, such a wonderful occasion.
The girl that was on his team was the gravity girl, he really did need to start remembering names, and they started making a plan.
"I'm going to use my analyze quirk to see what's going on with the building, hopefully I can see the bomb and then we can figure out plan off attack. Bakugo will probably come straight for me alone, he seems to hate me—"
Uraraka(?) nodded in agreement and Izuku activated his quirk, his eyes starting to glow subtily, in the dark hallway of the building, they seemed to glow brighter. He concentrated, looking for anything they could use.
"Okay, once Bakugo attacks me, you head for the bomb, it's about three floors up from us—I should be able to at least catch up if we— tch I thought it would take longer."
"What would take—"
An explosion echoed through the hallway with Bakugo yelling at 'deku' to fight him.
Uraraka looked over at Izuku who quickly nodded, giving her the sign he would be okay, and headed off.
"Bakugo, I don't know who you're calling 'Deku' but—"
"Quit playing dumb, you weak ass bastard! Have you been lying to me this whole time?! Mocking me?!"
Oh how much Izuku wanted to just smack him in the face right now and laugh at his pitifulness, of course, he had been lying, but not the kind of lying he thinks now.
"Look, I'm not here to argue with you, I'm here to prove myself and become a Hero, just like you!"
That was all it took, and with a yell of rage the explosive blond came rushing toward the greenette, hands ready to detonate at any moment.
Izuku dodged the first punch, ducking underneath and catching his opponents arm and directing the blast away from himself. The loudness made his ears ring and it didn't make the small shockwave go away but it kept him from being burnt to a crisp.
Bakugo was shocked by that and began attacking ruthlessly. It wasn't long before Izuku began to get annoyed and activated his time-turner quirk he rewound time around him but sped the time up for himself just long enough to get Bakugo to fall flat on his face and have his hands taped behind his back, signaling that he had won the duel.
That didn't stop the blond, though, and All Might had to speak through a loud speaker to tell him that he was done in this exercise.
Izuku grinned and turned to go meet up with his partner and see what she was up to. Hopefully she had progressed to the bomb by now.
Once he got there he saw there was nothing there except the bomb, the floor was spotless. That Iida boy had cleared everything out so that gravity gir-Uraraka couldn't use her quirk. Smart.
That wouldn't hinder him though, and he went quietly asked where his partner was but he didn't need to for long, as he saw that she was standing out in the open, the robo-boy playing his villain role well.
It made Izuku want to laugh.
He sneaked his way around the tall support posts that were all over the room before catching Uraraka's attention and signaling her to get closer to him.
That didn't seem like it would work, as the boy with engines for legs was incredibly fast. Izuku inwardly cursed, he would have to speed up the time around him a lot to make an impact.
He wound time backwards a little and then sped up his own time, grasping his partners wrist, which made her snap into a confused frenzy as her brain tried to process the world moving like a blur around her.
"Let's get to the bomb, I'm losing my sight so we need to get over there as quickly as we can."
She nodded in conformation and pressed the pads of her fingers on Izuku's arm and activated her quirk, making him basically weightless. He began to float the she began to run, slinging Izuku into the direction above the bomb. Izuku quickly deactivated his quirk and heard "release!" And he came into contact with the bomb, holding onto it for dear life.
"The Heroes Win!"
All Might announced loudly, and the teenagers made their way back to the room where they would discuss the outcome of the match.
Izuku being basically blind at this point, keeping his eyes closed, he was lead to the room by Iida who was congratulating him and Uraraka on their win. Kaachan was walking behind with anger written all over his face.
Once inside the discussion began and though the Heroes won, Iida got the pat on the back because of his ability to prepare for the upcoming hero and making it hard for Uraraka to use her quirk.
Izuku was impressed with the girls intelligence, being able to watch the footage and come up with that just by watching. She had come in through recommendations so it wasn't too much of a surprise. He would watch out for her.
—
Watching the rest of the matches was a wonderful way to get more information about his classmates quirks and personalities. He had put aside a few people in his brain to make sure he kept an eye on them.
Oh boy, someone has some issues, Izuku thought as he watched the peppermint boy freeze the entire building, what was he thinking? It seemed like a good tactic but bombs can go off from a multitude of different reactions. What if the ice triggered the bomb? Unlikely but possible.
Izuku wanted to roll his eyes at the antics of Peppermint but he was intrigued... that ice was powerful and fairly controlled. He would keep his eye on him.
——-
"Young Modoriya, can I have a word with you?"
All Might had asked after pulling the greenette aside at the end of class that day.
"S-sure!"
Izuku followed All Might to a conference room or teachers lounge, and let himself deflate.
"I wanted to apologize to you, for telling you that you couldn't be a hero."
Izuku looked into those sunken eyes, he didn't particularly know how to feel about that. He knew for a fact he was angry, if he had never came to this school then there would be no apology.
"N-no! It's okay All Might! You were just giving me the best advise you could, and I was thought to be quirkless so I would have gotten seriously hurt. I was... angry at you for a while but then I started thinking and I realized you were only trying to protect me."
He wanted to puke. How many times had he practiced that line? How many times had he wanted to hear an apology but then decided that the words were too bitter to handle?
There was a small glimmer of hope in All Mights eyes, a sparkle of life.
"I saw you charge in to save young Bakugo from the sludge villain, even after I told you to give up on being a hero. Why?"
Izuku knew why he had done it at the time, his body had just reacted. Would he do it again? He didn't know.
"My body just moved on its own... I saw that he was in trouble and the heros weren't moving—I just wanted to help however I could."
There was a silence for a moment and All Might seemed to be thinking hard about something.
"Well—" he finally said "—I'm glad you didn't give up, and I'm glad you're still wanting to be a hero."
Izuku beamed, his grin as wide as he could make it.
"I want to be the best hero I can be!"
The rest of the few minutes were small chit chat until All Might told him he should head home.
Izuku was a little conflicted, he was angry and confused. He was filled with this despise for this man, that giant fake Hero. He wanted to destroy him and everything he falsely stood for.
He didn't care about Izuku, he never would. He only cared about his quirk(s), now that he was useful. Now that he wasn't weak. Now that he wasn't something lower than a human.
It made him so angry, so filled with malice. He had to keep a cool face. A smart, kind, little boy who wanted nothing more than to be a hero! And he was going to be one, just not how everyone thought he would be.
He wanted to see the look on everyone's faces when they finally found out who he really was, what he was really doing. But he would play this game as long as he could, years even. Maybe he will keep playing even long after All Might was gone. Letting the entire world down like it did to him.
He couldn't wait
