xv | Chase the Line!

The green cap announcer would soon be proven right. The distinct difference between the Birchwood Forest and Glacier Barrens was that the latter was filled in its entirety with slippery ice. The snowfall made it harder to see as well.

Two men in an igloo watched as many racers lost their vehicles to the snow, such as the mailman and the two police cars that used Skales' jail escape as a way to enter the race.

The ninjas had actually managed to catch up quickly to the others. In a few short seconds, they ended up passing and becoming first.

Kai grinned as he looked through the back camera, finding only a few vehicles close behind. "Finally! Nothing can stop us now!"

Except the engines started to sputter.

"Oh no..." Zane glanced at the front gauge. "We've used up all our fuel! We're not gonna make it to the finish line!"

The levels blinked from blue to red, signaling that there wasn't much left. If they didn't receive help, they'd be stuck there.

"Oh, I didn't wanna say it... but I think our goose is cooked!" Jay shouted in disappointment.

Whatever that meant.

But fortunately, a pair of wonderful parents pulled up right next to them.

"Uh, you guys look like you could use a hand there!"

It was Ed who had poked his head out the small window. "We heard on the radio that you're all trying to save Dareth's dojo!"

Edna placed her hands together and on her cheek. "Oh yeah, we're so proud of you, Son!"

Jay sighed in exasperation, both at her cute comment that she shouted from inside of a fast moving car and at the idea that regardless, they wouldn't stand a chance. "Thanks, Mom! But we're out of gas!"

"Oh, then take ours!" she offered without a single ounce of hesitation.

"But how? If we stop, we'll lose the lead!"

His father was already stepping out of the car. "Well I guess we'll just have to do this the hard way, Son!"

As the two leading cars were driven at an even yet bumpy pace, the Walker men got to work. As Ed grabbed on to a spare gas tube, his wife kept her hands on the wheel.

He opened the tank and twisted it in. He then held up the other end for Jay.

"Take this end, Son!"

While his friends kept the Radar going, the ninja in blue hopped out of his seat. He effortlessly jumped on top of the ride until he made it to the other side.

Though just one misstep and he'd go tumbling to his death.

He gulped. "Keep it steady...!"

That proved to be very difficult, unfortunately. Especially with all of the racers coming closer.

But it was able to be done. As soon as Jay pushed the tube into the Radar's gas tank, his father began to transfer the fuel from his own car.

Garmadon had enough watching his enemies pull through time after time. After a small argument with some of the Serpentine on board, he threw many off the edge.

As they hit the snow, he still had the audacity to command from above, "I order you to slow the Ninja down!"

They listened regardless and headed their way.

Cole lifted himself up to look. "We've got company, boys!"

Still holding on to the tube, Jay sighed. "Would've been real nice to have Lloyd and Scarlett here right now."

Alas, they had no choice but to fight. He spun into his tornado to toss away two minor snakes.

But because the ninja in blue needed to keep the gas pumping into their ride, he couldn't leave his small space. "Need some help, guys!"

From above, Zane was the one who responded. "We've got your back!" Stepping through the violent winds, Cole was right behind him.

The latter noticed a minor Fangpyre attempting to grab the tube. Shouting their chant, he followed with his own spinjitzu and kicked him off easily.

A comical scene between the nindroid and a Hypnobrai soon occurred as the serpent tried to put him under a spell.

"Look into my eyesss, Ninja."

He simply turned his head a complete 180° before the hypnosis could happen.

"Oh, that is ssso gross!"

That gave the perfect distraction for Cole and Jay to aggressively chuck snowballs at his eyes.

"Now, Zane!"

One of the snowballs hit a serpent in the stomach, causing it to fall right in Edna's lap. She lost her grip on the wheel and so her and Ed's car began to swerve off the path.

Which in turn caused the Radar to start sliding the wrong way as well, as they were connected by a single, strong gas tube. And because Skales couldn't see very well due to the heavy snow, he crashed. Then the Darkley's students, as a means to not meet the same fate, ended up doing so anyway by spinning a little too close toward the cliff.

It was safe to say that every land vehicle was incapable of moving.

And the announcers ate it up.

The ninjas were the first out of their ride. But as Cole and Zane began to investigate the problem, Jay had other plans.

"Wait, stop!"

They watched as he jogged over to his parents.

He was relieved to see them standing outside their car, unharmed.

"Oh, thank god you're okay..."

"Oh, we're fine, Son," his father reassured with a smile. "Just wish I could say the same for the ol' jalopy."

"Yeah," his mother agreed with a solemn frown, "shame she didn't get to the finish line."

The ninja quickly scanned the vehicle until his eyes landed on a specific blue gear on the top.

He plucked it off and confidently grinned at his parents. "I'll make sure a part of her will."

He stuck it in one of the empty sockets near the front. By now, the others had quickly fixed their Radar.

"Let's go," he announced to his brothers as he lifted his blue mask over his head, "we've got a dojo to save."

As they drove off, the proud Walker parents held each other.

"Go make us proud, Son!"

The team of four had caught up to the Bounty that had luckily evaded all the chaos. They had just crossed into the final stretch of the race.

Cole slightly tilted his head back. "Looks like it's just us and Garmadon."

"This time, let's make sure the good guys don't finish last." Kai then pushed the control forward as they zoomed past the dark lord.

After believing he had the upper hand, Garmadon laughed. He let the Bounty glide in the air, not having a single worry in the world.

That was until he saw the vehicle speed ahead of him.

"No! I hate those Ninja!"

The idea to use his fated weapon finally hit him in desperation. "It's time."

Had he been outside, his screams would have been heard by those all over the city. "You think you can beat me, Ninja? This race is mine!"

From inside the Bridge, he tightly held on to the wheel with his top left hand, while the top right gripped the handle of the gold.

"Hear me, Mega Weapon. I wish to rip open Ninjago and make an insurmountable obstacle that they can never surpass!"

Immediately after his demand, the earth in front of them began to crack. Little by little, it split apart until it became noticeable enough for Kai to widen his eyes.

He had to pull back one lever and forward the other to skid to an agonizing stop. They almost fell right over as Garmadon flew by in the air.

"Fuck!" Jay shouted. "That's totally cheating!"

Zane stared at the cliff space that was about half a mile long. "Guys... it's impossible to cross that divide."

The dark lord was having the time of his life, laughing maniacally from the floor despite his bodily exhaustion. "I did it... did you see that? I win! Their dojo is doomed..."

"Oh, we're not gonna win now!" Jay whined.

But Kai had faith in one last trick. He glanced down at a hidden lever, thinking of his sister's unheard instructions at the beginning of the race.

"Wait a minute! This ain't over... everybody, hang on!"

The three thought he was a god damn lunatic as he drove at high speeds toward the edge. They would never make him the primary driver again.

The ninja in blue was the first to fear for his life. "Uh, hey douchebag. You do know we're aiming straight for that cliff, right? You sure that's a good idea?"

"I haven't had time to think it through!" the former sort of struggled with his words. "Ah, what was it that Sensei said? You gotta have trust!"

Cole whipped his head back so fast he almost lost it. "Yeah, in each other, idiot! Not miracles!"

Yet Kai didn't stop. He only sighed. "Nya, don't fail us now..."

Once they reached the edge, he yelled, "Now!" and pulled the hidden lever back.

Despite their previous arguments, the three all shouted their mantra as they hopped and spun in the air. The Radar practically split in half as the engines roared even louder to allow it to take flight.

They miraculously landed on top.

Garmadon continued to laugh as he thought he would be the only one left. However, it slowly died down as he looked into the camera to find his enemies trailing behind.

"No... no, no!"

From the benches, the audience cheered loud enough that those in Jamanakai Village could hear.

Nya jumped as she grabbed on to Red's arm. "He pulled the lever!"

He was kind of just struck with awe at the act of being on god's good side.

But he soon found himself cheering along with everyone else as a small smile creeped up his lips.

"Ninja! Ninja! Ninja!"

The last few seconds of the race was so cinematic. Not a single person remained seated as their focus was on the road. They got close enough that the screens were no longer needed.

Kai kept his focus on the finish line as the other three held on for dear life. Garmadon did the same. Nothing could stop the two.

The white suit announcer couldn't contain his excitement. "It looks like it's going to be a photo finish!"

And in another second, the two vehicles blew through the line. Without footage, it would be impossible to tell who crossed first.

That didn't matter to the audience. The crowd continued their chants as they hustled to the four heroes, lifting them up.

They lowered their masks with bright smiles on their faces.

Yet somehow, Garmadon jumped down with the idea that he was the one. "I won... I won! Clearly I passed the finish line first!"

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!"

Each person in the city looked up at the screen to see.

And they all saw the blue gear piece from the car of Jay's parents touching the white.

"The Ninja! The Ninja have won it!"

Their friends on the side cheered, elated at their victory. Dareth was jumping like a child.

Jay yanked it out and lifted it to the sky. "Yeah! I knew it would bring us luck!"

His teammates nearly worshipped him.

The dark lord was in shambles as he started talking to whoever would listen; which was nobody. "No, that's not fair! That wasn't even a part of the vehicle in the first place! It's not even street legal! My ship was—!"

"Your ship?"

The sound of a familiar voice made him turn.

There stood his beloved son on deck with his hands on his hips. Next to him stood Scarlett with her arm resting on his left shoulder and a confident smile on her face. The Ultra Dragon stood tall behind them both.

"I believe this belongs to us!"

Everything was falling apart for him one by one. "No, no, no!"

Two police officers continued to ruin his day by walking toward him. "Alright, Garmadon. You're coming with us."

But the cherry on top was Skales pulling up in the green snake bus that had crashed earlier. "Look who needss who now?"

With a shameful groan, he jumped on. It rode off to who knows where.

Nya couldn't help but grin as she faced their teacher. "Somehow, Sensei, I don't think that will be the last we see of him."

The trophy was placed in front of the group so fast that it took Dareth a minute to even process it. When he did, however, nothing could wipe the beam off his face.

"We did it! We did it!" He wildly laughed. "We saved the dojo! Look what I can do — cannonball!"

He gleefully hopped into the enormous bowl of cash. Everyone, even those in the audience, laughed.

Scarlett slid her arms around Kai's shoulders. She leaned toward his ear with a sly smile. "So was that little trick your idea?"

He lightly chuckled. "Wish I could take the credit. I think out of the two of us, my sister got the brains."

"Hmm. Maybe. But it was you that remembered, wasn't it?" She rested her head on his left shoulder.

He grinned as he snaked his arm around her waist.
