If anyone tries to ship Rexsoka in this chapter I will lose my marbles.
"I'm bored," Kara announced to no one in particular.
Kix hummed, scanning her arm. "I've got some good news. I can take the cast off now. It's sturdy enough that it should heal fine if it's left alone."
"Great. Am I being sent back to my cell?" Kara sunk into the pillows with a sigh.
Kix shrugged. "I don't know. You'll have to ask Rex."
Kara perked and sat up. "He's here?"
"No, but Echo and Fives are." Kix pointed at the door, where the twins stood.
Fives ran over, a grin across his face. "Hello, Kara. How are you feeling?"
Echo elbowed Fives and hissed, "This is a bad idea!"
"What's a bad idea?" Kara curiously asked. "Because I've always been told I naturally gravitate towards them."
Fives plopped down at the foot of her bed and rested his chin in his hands. "I heard you say you're bored?"
Kara nodded. "So?"
Echo crossed his arms and shot Fives a filthy look. "He wants to do something that would get us in so much trouble. We'd get reprimanded!"
"Just reprimanded?" Kara snorted. "That's it? That's nothing."
"See?" Fives whipped around to gives Echo a pointed look. He faced Kara again with a bright smile. "So, we'd sneak into Rex's office-"
"I'm in." Kara pushed herself out of bed and started walking out the door. She glanced over her shoulder with a scowl. "Are you coming or not?"
"Hey!" Kix shouted after her. "I have to get the cast off!"
Kara rolled her eyes and returned, letting him cut it off. "Am I allowed to just wander around, anyways? Am I a prisoner or not?"
Kix shrugged once again. "I don't know. You'd have to ask General Skywalker. I believe he mentioned something about bringing you to trial."
"It's about time we get out of here," Fives said. "It's been a month since we destroyed that base."
"Let's go!" Kara cackled as she sprinted down the corridors.
Fives and Echo ran after her, one more enthusiastic than the other.
"Now lower me slowly," Kara whispered.
Fives let her down a bit further from the vent, until she was far enough down. Then he released her, and Kara silently landed in Rex's office.
"The helmet's here!" Kara murmured to Fives. "You're right; he leaves it here when he meets with Anakin."
Fives chuckled. "He's predictable."
Kara snatched the helmet off the desk and tossed it up to him. "He is. It's really easy to make him blush, too."
Fives arched a brow. "And why would you know this?"
"He's on his way back from the meeting." Echo's panicked voice made them both snap to attention.
"How much time do we have?" Fives asked, speaking into his comm.
"Not much. He's rounding the corner."
"You're supposed to keep watch so this doesn't happen!" Fives angrily said. "You're the one who was panicked about what would happen if we got caught!"
"Hoist me up!" Kara ordered, raising her hands above her head.
Fives backed up in the vent, all the while maintaining eye contact with her. "There's not enough time. Good luck!"
"You bastard!" Kara glared at him, shaking her fist at him as he replaced the grate. She looked around for a place to hide, huffing as she spotted the only one in the room.
Rex's shoulders slumped as he finally returned to his office. The meeting had been strange to say the least, and mostly consisted of Anakin talking about Padmé.
He rolled out his shoulders before tilting his head at the desk. Wasn't his helmet resting there when he left?
Rex furrowed his brows and turned around, trying to find his helmet, but he couldn't see it.
He groaned and cursed under his breath.
When he had seen Echo jogging through the hallways with a scared expression, he assumed Ahsoka had wanted to try cooking again. Fives must've stolen it and roped Echo into it.
Rex sat himself down in his chair and picked his datapad up from his desk. He had received multiple forms he needed to read over, and he punched the bridge of his nose tiredly.
A knock on the door interrupted his work, and he called out for them to come in.
"How's it going?" Ahsoka asked as she walking inside.
"I have some files to fill out," Rex complained. "Oh, did Kix talk to you about the bra?"
Ahsoka scoffed. "Please, he talked to me a month ago. I gave him a spare for her. It's lucky we have the same cup size."
Rex bobbed his head along, still jotting things down on his device. "Lucky indeed. I'd hate for her to actually have something to whine about."
"Can I meditate in here?" Ahsoka requested. "Anakin's running around ranting about Obi-wan again. I think he's missing his old master again."
"Sure." Rex sighed as another dozen reports came pouring in. "Go ahead."
"Thanks." Ahsoka settled on the floor and got into a comfortable position. She breathed in deeply and closed her eyes.
Rex worked in silence as Ahsoka reached out in the Force, a gentle smile touching her lips. He briefly glanced up at her fondly, glad his vod'ika was able to find peace in these moments.
Ashoka's eyes suddenly shot open. "Uh, Rex?"
Rex put down his datapad and looked up at her, concern in his gaze. "Is something wrong?"
"I'm sensing another Force signature in the room. Either someone here is pregnant, or there's someone neither of us know about."
Rex and Ahsoka side-eyed each other for a moment.
"Well I'm not pregnant..." Rex trailed off.
"And I'm definitely not," Ahsoka said.
Rex glanced up at the vents. "There's probably someone in there."
Ahsoka used the Force to move the grate aside, and they both peered inside.
"No one," Ahsoka said in disappointment.
"Hardcase! Get out from wherever you're hiding!" Rex yelled. "I've had a long day and don't have time for this!"
Kara poked her head up from under his desk. "Sorry, I'm not Hardcase."
"Do I want to know why she's under your desk?" Ahsoka dryly asked.
Rex's face flushed. "I didn't know she was there!"
"Sure." Ahsoka opened the door and ducked out of the room. "I'll leave you to deal with this."
"This is awkward," Kara remarked.
"What are you doing here?" Rex demanded, lifting her to her feet.
"Fives abandoned me!" Kara exclaimed. "I'm going to kill him!"
"You were hiding under my desk! Do you know what this looks like to Commander Tano?" Rex gestured to where the Padawan had been.
"It looks like I was giving-" Kara was cut off as his hand covered her mouth.
"Do you want someone to hear you say that?" Rex questioned, ears straining to hear anyone walk by. Kara glowered up at him, mouth still covered. Rex removed his hand. "Don't you dare say anything else like that."
"Anything like what?" Kara mockingly asked. "You don't want anyone hearing that I'm the best you've ever had?" She raised her voice. "You don't want anyone hearing how we've been messing around for weeks now?"
He frantically shushed her, shoving her into his chair. She fell silent as she was pushed, besides the little shout she let out.
"None of that is true!" Rex raised a similar finger to brandish at her as he lectured her. "None of it is true and you're going to make the rumours worse!"
Kara cocked her head. "What rumours?"
"Uh-" Rex hesitated. "Nothing."
Kara stood up, slowly staking forwards. "Tell me," her voice lowered, "pretty boy."
Rex was suddenly feeling very hot. "It's really nothing."
"But there's something nonetheless." Kara crept a finger up his chest, tracing the marks on his armour. She batted her eyes at him. "Just tell me, what's the worst that could happen? You said yourself that it's nothing."
"People think we're having an affair," Rex muttered.
Kara ran a finger along his bottom lip. "Oh, really?"
Rex nodded, swallowing thickly.
"See? That wasn't so hard to say," Kara crooned. She ran a hand through his hair, which she was able to hook her fingers into. "Are you growing it out?"
"I keep forgetting to cut it," Rex confessed. He let her back him up into a chair he had in the corner, mind going blank. "I- uh, do you like it?"
Kara hummed in consideration, pulling his head back to look at it from another angle. "I guess so. You look a bit more free with it longer, different from your usual rigid self."
Rex stared up into her eyes before glancing down at her lips. "I like your hair. It's pretty."
"Oh?" Kara teased. "Thank you."
Rex blurted out, before he could stop himself, "Your eyes are pretty too."
"Yours are pretty," Kara replied. She stroked his cheek softly. "You know what else I find pretty?"
"What?" Rex quietly asked.
"Your lips." Kara's gaze lingered on them before it returned to his eyes.
Hushed whispering reached their ears, and they both jerked apart and faced the door. Rex angrily stormed towards it and ripped it open.
Jesse, Hardcase, and Tup sheepishly smiled at him, while Echo facepalmed behind them.
"I will speak with you all individually later," Rex told them. He whipped around and pointed at Kara. "And you! Don't think I forgot you broke into my office! Where my helmet?"
"Fives has it!" Kara shrieked.
Rex rounded on Fives furiously, ready to scold, but they were all gone.
"Get back to the med bay while I find a place for you." Rex pinched the bridge of his nose.
Kara crossed her arms. "Don't feel too bad if you can't find a place. I'm sure somebody will be willing to share..."
Rex shook his head as he watched her go, wondering if he was ever going to get his helmet back.
