Tw: Foul language, sexual content? Someone's butt is touched, but I won't say whose. Sexual references, violence, death.

"You know, it's really dark out," Rex commented.

Kara narrowed her eyes and laughed. "So? Are you scared of the dark?"

The corners of his lips lifted as he smirked, eyes glinting. "No. You can't see in the dark, though. Am I right? You're pretty much blind."

Kara scowled. "You are correct." She looked up at the sky, glancing at the sun's positioning. "We still have a bit before it's completely night."

Rex shrugged and rolled his neck out. "So I have until then to surprise attack you?"

Kara's face split into a wide grin. "I'm not stupid. We're not going to just wander around in the dark. Do you know what lives in these woods?"

Rex shook his head. "No, I don't. Are we going to reach the base before night?"

"Absolutely not. It's very far away. We're going to spend the night in a tree," Kara told him, beginning to search for a sturdy tree. She found one that satisfied her and pulled Rex to it, motioning for him to climb it.

"I can't climb it with my hands bound," Rex prostrated, holding out his wrists.

"Want me to give you a boost?" Kara asked, smiling wickedly.

Rex wanted to be difficult, just how she was when she was the prisoner. "Yes."

Kara shrugged. "Alright."

Then she put her hands on his ass.

Rex jumped away, whipping his head around to glare at her with red cheeks. "What was that for?"

"You wanted a lift!" Kara exclaimed.

"So you put your hands on my ass?" Rex hissed, still trying to stay out of her reach.

"You were supposed to climb up the tree while I supported your weight!" Kara rolled her eyes. "Now come here so I can put you up that tree."

Rex continued to shy away from her, dancing around the tree trunk. "Absolutely not. I'd rather let whatever lives in the forest eat me."

"Who said it eats people?" Kara quirked a brow.

Rex froze. "Then what does it do?"

Kara cackled, a sound he had begun to get used to. "Why would I tell you when I'm about to tuck you in for the night? Just know it's bad."

"You're not tucking me in!" Rex bristled, lunging to the side as she tried to grab his arm.

"Obviously not," Kara agreed. "I don't have a blanket. I meant that you need to get up that tree right now!"

Rex nearly shrieked as she snagged his arm, pulling him to her side. "No! Let me go!"

"You'll do it!" Kara shoved him against the tree, pointing her chin upwards. "Climb."

Rex grumbled and reluctantly let her lift him into it. He scrambled onto the top of the tree, sighing as he felt the bark dig into the back of his neck. "Is this really better than your cell?"

"Freedom is the greatest comfort." Kara clambered up next to him and arranged the branches to hide them from plain sight. "If you try to escape tonight while I'm sleeping, just know that you won't survive. There's deadly creatures in here."

"Noted." Rex shut his eyes, putting his bound hands in his lap. "Goodnight."

"Sweet dreams," Kara replied. "They better be filled with me."

Rex peaked one eye open. "The only pleasant dream I'll have about you is where I'm choking you to death."

"Whatever floats your boat." Kara grinned.

Rex let out a heavy sigh. "I walked into that one." He rested his head against the trunk of the tree. "I mean it this time. Goodnight."

"Goodnight," Kara responded, letting her own eyes close. "Remember, terrible things are in these woods."

Rex stifled a laugh, knowing she was making that up to scare him.

Rex slowly turned his head, glancing at Kara, who was softly snoring. Her head was nestled in the crook of his neck and a peaceful look on was on her face.

He almost didn't want move, uneager to disrupt her slumber.

Then he remembered everything that happened and pushed her away.

He was preparing to slip from the tree when he heard something that made the hairs on the back of his neck raise.

Clicking.

But what would be clicking? A bird, perhaps?

Did birds click?

Rex squinted, trying to find the source of the noise. He saw a vague blur in the darkness and furrowed his brow as he stared at it.

What was it?

He could make out four legs, and a head that was low to the ground. As he leaned forward to see what it was, the head snapped up, white eyes meeting his.

Rex flinched back, terror shooting through him. He looked to Kara quickly to see if she had woken due to his sudden movements, then looked back at the creature.

It was gone.

He scanned his surroundings trying to locate it, yet he couldn't spot it.

Leaning against the bark of the tree, Rex tried to relax his body, assuring himself that he was safe up the tree.

Then claws embedded themselves in the wood next to his leg, lifting the rest of the beast up.

Rex kicked out, trying to send it flying from the tree, but it merely snarled in return. It snapped out with its maw, nearly biting his foot off.

"I warned you." Kara shook her head in disappointment. "I warned you it was dangerous here."

Rex turned his head to face her, eyes wide with terror. "Do something! Shoot it!"

Kara's eyes rolled into the back of her head and she threw her head back with a laugh. "Why can't you do anything? Why don't you do something?"

Rex screamed as the creature lunged for his throat, with Kara giggling as she watched.

"Morning, pretty boy," Kara teased, smiling down at him. Strands of her hair tickled his cheeks as they hung. She was propped right above him, face centimetres away from his own.

Rex blearily blinked, slowly getting up. "Morning?"

"You were twitching in your sleep." Kara jumped to the ground, bending her knees as she landed. "Good dreams?"

"Bad." Rex carefully joined her on the ground, stretching out his sore joints. "You were in them."

"And that makes them bad?" Kara pouted, crossing her arms. She flashed him a grin. "I'm joking. I'm sure there was something else that made them bad. Tell me about it."

"No." Rex began to follow her as she walked. "It was just a dream."

Kara glanced over her shoulder. "What if it was your subconscious trying to tell you something?" She looked at the sun and changed her direction slightly to the left.

"Or what if it was just a dream?" Rex shot back. He kicked a rock into a bush with a heavy sigh. "Are we almost there?"

"Almost," Kara said, running her hand along a rocky mountain side. She found a chunk of stone that stuck out and stared at it intently.

Rex snorted. "Please don't tell me you push it in and then the base is revealed."

"Of course not." Kara glared at him. "What kind of fool do you take me for? This just looks like a star." She continued walking, then paused. "We're here."

"Seriously? This is within sight of the tree. We could've been at the base before nightfall!" Rex huffed in exasperation.

"I like sleeping in trees, okay?" Kara crossed her arms. "And it's been a while since I've had fresh air. If we're going inside again, I want to spend as much time as I can outside."

Rex just sighed, knowing he'd get a migraine if he spent any more time arguing with her.

She pushed a bush to the side, revealing a hatch in the ground. Kara covered the control pad from him as she inputted the code, stepping aside as it opened.

"Welcome," Kara said once they had slid down the ladder, entering the base. She covered the hatch again and locked it.

"I'm so happy to be here," Rex sarcastically said.

She escorted him through the dark hallways, curling her lip at the mold growing on the walls. "I need to tell them to clean up. This is a mess."

"Where are we even going?" Rex asked as they passed the cell block.

"To my quarters. I need to comm Dooku and tell him I completed my assignment." Kara adjusted her braid, tucking stray hairs behind her ears. "I want to know what I'm supposed to do with you."

Rex jolted in surprise when he saw a familiar face ahead. "What are you doing here?"

Kara rolled her eyes. "I can't believe you're here. I can handle this! Look! I captured him!"

"Captain Rex," Coda smoothly said, much to Rex's confusion. "Please come inside."

"Coda? I don't understand." Wrinkles formed on Rex's forehead as he stared at Coda. "Were you captured too?"

Coda chuckled. "No, you fool. I work for them."

"Yes, yes, big betrayal," Kara said as she ushered Rex into her quarters. "Anyway, get out of here, piano man. I need to contact Dooku."

"Already done." Coda smirked at the fury on Kara's face. "He left your next instructions for you."

"I'm the general here." Kara seethed in anger. "I think you're forgetting your place. You're just a traitor."

"You betrayed your brothers," Rex murmured, disgust etched into his features.

Coda ignored them both, handing Kara a blaster. "Dooku has ordered you to kill him."

Kara's eyebrows went up. "After I went through all that trouble to get him here?"

"Is that hesitation?" Coda simpered. "Do you not want to kill him? Do you care about him?"

Kara grit her teeth. "No. I'm just wondering why I'm supposed to kill him, when he has so much useful information."

"So much useful information in that pretty little head of his?" Coda narrowed his eyes at Kara. He stalked forward, reaching for the weapon in her hands. "I could always do it for you, and prove my loyalty."

"So he wants me to prove my loyalty?" Kara cooled her features, lifting the blaster at Rex's head.

"He does."

Rex glowered at Coda with pure hatred while the blaster was still level with his forehead. "I hope you know that I will never forgive you, even after death."

Coda merely smiled. "I know. But I like being the villain."

"I'm the villain," Kara corrected.

Then she pulled the trigger.
