So...
The trigger warnings will tell you all you need to know.
Tw: Violence, daddy issues, blood.
The days flew by, a repetitiveness to them. Rex's many visits became few, caught up in trying to find the base, which he now knew was in the north. Coda would occasionally bring her to piano lessons, which she was enjoying less and less.
They became less about piano, and more about Coda drilling her on information to bring to Dooku. In Kara's opinion, choosing Coda to be their spy was a mistake. He was too desperate to prove that he was useful, getting on her nerves.
If it was her call she would eliminate him.
But alas, Dooku was in charge, and he was choosing to keep Coda around. So Kara sucked it up and didn't murder him.
Kara was surprised to discover that her ankle had healed once Kix removed the cast. He told her that six weeks had passed since he had put it on, swiftly leaving after it was gone.
"I have a plan," Kara declared at one of her piano lessons.
Coda raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"I'm going to need your help." Kara let her hands come down hard on the keys, smiling when he winced at the noise.
"Fine. What do I have to do?" Coda moved her hands into proper positioning.
"Get Rex to come to me cell," Kara simply said. "Can you handle that?"
Coda's eyes narrowed into slits. "That's it? That's your big plan?"
"You think I'm going to tell you the plan? Just do your part and I'll do mine." Kara sneered, lips twisting in disgust. "You're an idiot."
Coda shrugged. "Then I just won't send him to your cell."
Kara huffed. "I'll do it myself then. It would've been easier if you did it, but it's not impossible for me to do it."
"So you don't need me?" Coda asked for clarification.
"I do not," Kara confirmed, fluffing her hair. She flashed him a smile. "Can you get on the floor please?"
"Why?" Coda questioned. "I thought you didn't need me to do anything?"
Kara rolled her eyes. "I really have to do everything myself, don't I?"
Coda opened his mouth to respond, instead letting out a cry of alarm as she tackled him. She rolled him into his stomach, pinning his arms behind his back.
"What are you doing?" Coda demanded.
"Scream," Kara ordered.
"What?" Coda blinked in surprise.
Kara bent his arms backwards, grinning as he yelled in pain. "Like that."
"What are you doing?" Coda angrily asked, squirming as he tried to get away.
Kara laughed. "I'm completing my assignment. Now shut up and look scared."
The doors burst open and two armoured clones charged inside, dragging Kara off of Coda. She kicked her legs out wildly, hitting Coda in the face. They gripped her arms tighter after that, pulling her away.
"What happened?" The one on the left looked down at Coda in concern:
"I don't know!" Coda honestly replied. His fingers brushed his lip and he cringed as he felt the cut. "She just attacked me!"
"We'll take care of her." The one on the right led the way into the hallway.
"What did you do now?" Rex tiredly asked as Kara was thrown onto the floor in front of him.
Kara looked up at him with a smile that made his stomach jump. "I didn't do anything."
"She attacked Coda."
Kara stuck her tongue out at the man who ratted her out, getting to her feet. She dusted herself off. "No big deal."
"No big deal?" Rex repeated, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Do you have any idea how much paperwork this is for me? I'll have to take away your piano lessons!"
"You seem stressed," Kara observed.
"I am! And I don't have time to be dealing with you!" Rex dismissed the clones who brought her in. "Sit down." He motioned to a chair on the other side of his desk.
"Is this office yours?" Kara slid into the chair.
"Yes. Now why did you do that?" Rex sighed.
"What do you mean?" Kara batted her eyes innocently.
"Why'd you attack Coda?" Rex tucked a folder into a drawer. "I know you well enough to tell you wouldn't do it for no reason."
Kara stretched out her neck, rolling her head in circles. "Can't I just have a bit of fun?"
"Fun?" Rex's hands came down on the desk as he leaned forward, glaring at her. "You think violence is fun?"
"Well you haven't visited me, so what else am I supposed to do?" Kara snapped, crossing her arms.
"My job isn't to entertain you! I'm not a damn babysitter! I have bigger things to do than worry about your feelings!" Rex furiously said. "I don't care whether you feel ignored or not!"
"And do you know what my job is?" Kara quietly asked, his words having a greater effect on her than she wanted.
Rex lifted his gaze to the ceiling. "Annoying me?"
Kara let out a breathless laugh. "No, but I wish it was. I do so well with that."
The she lunged forward, knocking him out of his chair and wrapping her hands around his neck. She forced him against the wall.
"Let me tell you something, hmm?" Kara lowered her mouth to his ear and murmured, "You're my prisoner now, so you'll do as I say."
"And what's that?" Rex glowered at her.
"You're going to follow me back to my base and you're going to do it nicely. No escaping, no fighting, no pulling some brave shit and trying to sacrifice yourself for the greater good or whatever," Kara threatened.
Rex raised a hand to try to pry her off him, but she merely used her other hand to hold it above his head, right against the wall. She squeezed his throat tighter, smiling as he began to splutter.
"Do you understand?" Kara demanded. When he didn't respond, she slammed his head against the wall. "I said: do you understand?"
He swept her legs out from underneath her and she toppled to the floor. He arranged himself atop her, wrapping his hands around her. "No, I think you don't understand."
Kara struggled to attack him, trying to claw at his face. He stopped her efforts by straddling her hips, pinning her arms to her sides.
"Then clue me in on what I'm missing," Kara hissed, staring up at him with fury alight in her gaze.
"You're on the wrong side!" Rex exclaimed. "How do you not see this?"
"I've seen terrible things! Do you think every side is flawless? Look at your creators! Do they care about every single clone they create? Think, you mewling quim!" Kara hysterically laughed.
Rex lifted his eyes in exasperation. "At least we don't kill thousands of people like you do!"
Kara leaned forwards, and he applied more pressure to her throat to keep her down. "Why do you think I do what I do? Why do you think I'm a Separatist General?"
Rex remained silent, trying to think of a response.
"Is it because I'm evil?" Kara whispered. She smiled cruelly when he didn't say anything. "Is that it? Do you think I'm evil?"
"Kara-" Rex began, but was cut off by her.
"You think I'm evil." Kara's eyes brimmed with tears. "Fine. If you want me to be the villain, I will."
"No," Rex softly said, trying to reason with her. "I don't think that."
She wrapped her legs around Rex's and twisted, pulling him off her. She quickly got to her feet, standing over him. "I'm a Separatist General because I grew up alone. I was weak. I starved every day by myself. A kind man took me in one day. I vowed to spend the rest of my life returning the favour."
"Join the Republic!" Rex pleaded. "Fight against the merciless slaughter!"
Kara threw her head back and laughed. "Do you know who the man was?"
Rex stood up, holding out his hands. "Kara, it doesn't have to be like this."
"That man was Count Dooku. He made me into who I am! I didn't play with dolls as a child, I killed!" Kara let a vicious kick loose on the back of his knee, using his momentum as he fell to bring his face down on the desk.
"I don't see how your daddy issues have anything to do with this!" Rex laughed, blood dripping from his nose. He sneered up at her, all of his built up stress coming out on her.
Kara scowled and put him in a headlock, squeezing tightly. He struggled for a minute before going limp, and she dropped him.
She pulled his datapad out of a drawer and typed in a series of guesses to unlock it.
His password was 'password'.
Idiot.
Kara rolled her eyes and clicked on his messages with Anakin.
To: General Skywalker:
Can you deliver some cuffs to my office? No reason.
To: Captain Rex:
Sure? Why do you need them?
To: General Skywalker:
No reason. But send them quickly.
To: Captain Rex:
Rex, is something wrong? You're acting weird.
To: General Skywalker:
Nothing is wrong. Just send the cuffs down and have them delivered outside. I'll get them myself.
Shortly after, there was a knock on the door, and a set of cuffs laying outside. She picked them up and placed them on Rex's wrists before settling back in her chair, waiting for him to wake.
When he stirred, he blinked a couple times, trying to push himself up. When he realized he couldn't due to his hands being bound behind his back, he finally looked up at her.
"Did you have good dreams?" Kara conversationally asked.
"Kara, you're making a mistake. You have nowhere to go," Rex tried to reason, keeping his voice level.
Kara cocked her head. "You really think so?"
"Just turn yourself in and everything will be fine," Rex said. He managed to sit up against the wall. "You haven't killed me yet or dragged me away, so you must realize that you're making a mistake."
"I haven't killed you yet because I need you alive," Kara corrected. "I haven't dragged you away yet since you're too heavy for me to lift in that armour."
"Who needs me?" Rex questioned.
Kara stepped closer, eyes staring deep into his. "Let's go." She pointed the blaster she had just taken from his waist at his forehead. "Now."
Rex sighed, following her out of the office. "I don't see how you think you're making it out of here. We're in a Republic cruiser. There's soldiers everywhere."
"That's where Echo and Fives come in handy." Kara shoved him, making him stumble. "And stop worrying your pretty head. I've got it all figured out."
Rex watched her confidently strut down the hallways, which were surprisingly empty. He realized it was mealtime, and the majority of the clones were eating. He studied Kara's movements, noting how she still had a slight limp, indicating her ankle wasn't entirely healed yet.
"Captain Rex?"
"He's taking me to piano lessons!" Kara enthusiastically said, moving behind Rex. She pressed the end of the blaster into his back. Her body hid the binders he wore.
The clones shrugged and continued on his way.
"Good," Kara murmured, letting the blaster fall to her side. "Now, keep walking."
Rex reluctantly did as she said, turning one corner, going straight at another corridor until they finally reached the hanger. People bustled about, but none paid any mind to the two of them, barely glancing over.
"Echo! Fives!" Kara yelled, drawing their attention.
"How did you know they'd be here?" Rex muttered.
"I overheard one of the guards who delivered my food complaining that they were making a draft keeping some doors open." Kara smiled brightly as Echo and Fives approached. "Act natural."
"What're you doing here?" Fives questioned.
"I could ask you the same!" Kara joked, flashing a wide grin.
"We're keeping an eye out for returning scouts," Echo said, still staring out one of the side doors that opened directly into the sunlight. "General Skywalker's orders."
Rex gritted his teeth. "Good soldiers follow orders, after all."
"Indeed," Kara agreed. "Now if you'll excuse us, I do believe that Rex is taking me outside for the first time in weeks."
"You're taking her for a walk?" Echo asked Rex, eyebrow raised.
Rex felt the blaster at his back again. He scowled, glaring at Kara for a millisecond before facing them again. "Yes. I thought I'd treat her to the sun. It's been a while since she's been outside."
Fives shrugged and stepped aside, while Echo watched them with suspicion. He moved out of the way as well, though.
"See you later!" Kara steered Rex outside. "Tell Ahsoka I said hi, okay?"
"Sure." Fives looked confused.
Kara and Rex left their line of sight and as soon as they were in the clear, Kara took a deep breath. "Wow, the fresh air is amazing."
"Where are we going?" Rex struggled with the binders before groaning in frustration.
"You're finally going to see the hidden base!" Kara told him. "But you're going to be a prisoner."
Then they began the long trek north.
Coda sighed, pausing his moments on the piano.
Dooku was going to be very pleased to discover Captain Rex had been captured, perhaps not even needing Coda's assistance anymore.
Why have a spy, when you have a prisoner with higher clearance to give you information?
It made sense to get rid of him. Coda didn't even see how he was useful to Dooku anymore.
He needed to find a way to be of service, or else he would be disposed of.
Coda paced back and forth, hands crossed behind his back as he desperately tried to think of a way to be useful.
Then it struck him. The perfect plan to be seen as useful.
Even though Dooku ordered Kara to do it, Coda would have to turn Captain Rex over, and do anything he could to prevent Kara from doing it first. He figured it didn't matter who did it, as long as it was done.
Did anyone see the Loki reference?
