Chapter Two

A small grin plays on my lips as Amir walks towards me,  his eyes determined on me. He has the same eyes as her, the same hazel shade. But hers was different, it had a certain shine to it while his eyes shines with fury.

Amir is tall and has an average body with not too much muscles. At the moment, Amir seems to force himself into a smile as someone waves to him. Unlike his sister, his smile isn't accompanied by dimples but with furrowed eyebrows.

His suit isn't exactly traditional in Indian customs but he doesn't seem to mind. Last time I checked, he hated sherwanis or anything of the sort. Not exactly the traditional Indian.

Amir doesn't stop for pleasantries or to say hi. Instead, he grabs my arm roughly and pushes me towards a unoccupied area of the crowded room. I play along with his shove, although I know I can withstand it easily and push him with much more force than that.

"What are you doing here?" He immediately hisses, trying to keep his voice down but failing. "I told you to stay away from me and my family."

"I'm not good with rules," I shrug, ignoring the pang when his words reminded me. My features do nothing to melt from my smirk though. "And I'm not here for you, it's my colleague's engagement."

Amir purses his lips as he realizes that he can't kick me out even if he wants to. As he processes the thought, I stand up straight, crossing my arms with a firm smirk on my lips. I can't help it, his suffering is amusing to me.

Amir tightens his lips into a smile, seeing as some people are starting to stare as his voice become louder. I lean off the wall, stretching as I do. When I start to walk away, his voice pipes up again. "You already ruined her life, why can't you just leave it at that? Why do you want to ruin mine?"

It took everything I had not to turn back and strangle him. Every single moral, every single time I thought about making his life a living hell. I can't ruin it now. "She had a perfect life without you in it."

The way he said you almost made me snap. The tang in it, the way he sounded so disgusted by me. His words repeat in my head over and over, taunting me, exactly the way he wanted it.

I stood nervously at the mirror, taking in every flaw I had as I continually fixed up the sherwani over and over. The blue sherwani was picked out by her, I remember Aadhya immediately taking a liking for it. She didn't let me see her dress though, even though she picked mine.

The sliver lining had made me slightly uncormfatable but I quickly agreed, happy at her smile. All I knew about her dress was it was blue and she didn't bother to reveal anything else about it.

I couldn't complain though, it's not everyday you get to marry someone. I leave the bathroom mirror alone, exiting to the wedding hall. Everyone becomes quiet, I don't even know why. As soon as I looked up, I couldn't catch my breath like everyone else.

Aadhya was grinning as she walked down the marble stairs. Her suit was a beautiful navy blue, the same shade as mine. Across her arms, bridal mehdi was covered by churiya (bangles) that spreaded out colorfully. It wasn't her diamond earings, necklace or the faint sound of her ankelets that made me stop. It's not the way she looked, it was the way she looked at me - a large smile and eyes that seemed to be stuck on me. She was happy. . . to get married to me.

I zone out of his words, remembering that she was happy to be with me, it wasn't a mistake. "You guys know each other?" Alia's familiar voice says. I look back to see her talking to Amir and my back.

"Vaguely," I reply, not wanting to elaborate. "But it's weird how we've never bumped into each other despite the fact Alia has been my co worker for four years now."

I keep my words sweet as possible to make sure Alia doesn't know it's a threat. However, Amir in the other hand quickly picks up the words, gritting his teeth. All through this, Alia stays blind to what is happening.

"When did you guys meet?" I question, smiling widely.

"Only two years ago," Alia dismisses the question quickly, her attention turning towards other people along with her gaze. When Alia moves towards her center of attention, I turn my gaze to Amir.

"Two years. I wonder who'll she'll believe," I shrug, my smile not faltering. I wish I can record the way his face sours with my words. He ignores me, deciding I wasn't of his concern.

Probably his worst mistake.

How was the chapter? Any feedback? Any plot guesses?

Opinions on Amir?

My author's notes are so short for this story tbh, usually I talk about something but there's pretty much nothing to talk about. Oh well.

Vote?
