Chapter Four

Point out the mistakes please?

"I knew you'd be here."

On instinct I wipe away the pooling tears as I turn around to see him. Amir is smirking while walking towards me.

"Wasn't the ambulance called over here?" Amir questions, closing his eyes as he frowns. When he opens them, he stares at me, probably wishing he could shoot daggers with his eyes.

"It was all your fault," Amir adds on, standing beside me now. His eyes follow mine to the area I couldn't stop staring at. "You let her die. After ruining her life, you decide to turn up at my engagement."

His words are extremely bitter for a person who wasn't even close to her. "You just couldn't leave it at that -"

My hands grab his collar roughly, possibly choking him. I could barely realize that my hands are gripping his white collar. All I can think of is Addhiya and how much I hate him. How easy it'll be to erase his existence. How easily I can move away from these memories.

But it's not that easy.

I make eye contact with Amir as he smirks. His cheeks are turning red quickly, one of the negatives of his pale skin. I wish I  could hurt him, physically or mentally but I already knew that'll do nothing to erase my memories.

"What did she say on the phone?" He spurts out, not caring that his life is in my hands, that his lover is waiting inside for him. He doesn't care about his soon to be fiance or anything else as he watches my emotionless expression. All he wanted is my world to break and he knows it's working. What he doesn't know is that my world has been torn apart much before this encounter.

"I hate you? That you could have saved her?" His eyes seem dull as if he's not getting amused at my pain. As if his words run deeper than to cause pain. "Don't you feel guilty? Do you even have any remorse?"

I listen, wordless. Finally, I shove him off, not caring as he fell to the floor. A few pieces of rubble fly up to my ankles as he crashes on to the floor reminding of the glass that broke earlier today. Amir seems like a different person as he uses his elbows to lean upwards. His hair is tousled from the neat brush he had earlier and his collar is sticking up.

Amir shakes his head at me, quickly making judgement when it's not his turn. He aimlessly looks at the ground and I decide to leave this view. Just when I turn around, I hear Amir saying my name.

'Maybe this glass is from -"

I turn around to see Amir holding a piece of green glass - the colors indicating it was once a beer bottle. Nothing remains of the bottle but some shattered shards Amir holds up proudly.

I don't know why he stopped speaking. Maybe because he knows I already know the end of that sentence. The ending is a final blow yet he chooses not to say anything.

The light falls through the glass easily, letting a green shadow fall on Amir's face as he looks through it. "You already know the end of that sentence, don't you?" He smiles, his eyes watching the glass.

I lazily looked through the green glass, watching the liquid swish to one side to another. An amused laugh came through my lips as I watched the liquid before taking a sip.

My eyes had wandered to the clock again as they always do. Late. Again. I told her to stop spending so much time at work, to relax sometime. A grimace had appeared on my face, recalling her ignoring me. Work seemt to be her new love.

I sighed, lying face down on the pillow. Finally, I leaned up on my elbows just to take another sip and face launched back into the pillow. As the hours passed, I repeated the actions.

She'll be home soon. I repeated the words over and over again, just wishing it'll be true. The words became a daily routine for me, a daily lie.

When there was too much bottles on the floor and not enough achool, I got up from my comfy seat that seemt to be the ony place I sit at after work. Due to years of practice, I managed not to fall on my face and walk into our bedroom.

It's a routine now. I'll wait for Addhya to come home and when she doesn't turn up, I drunk a few drinks. Those few drinks turned me drunk, tired and Addhya mad. Everyday, she'd see those empty bottles and every morning she'd yell at a hungover me.

Everyday, I'd try my best until my best didn't matter anymore. There was no one left to impress. All that remained was broken promises and a failed marriage.
