Chapter Five

I kissed her hand, smiling as a smile pops on her face. A few days after our honeymoon yet the honeymoon phrase hadn't ended. It was strange being so much in love yet so normal now.

It was only a few months later when her work shifts got longer. As I came early to see her, she'd come later. I'd promise to myself a few drinks at first. A few drinks became heavier as the clock ticked on.

A few weeks later, she started to see me as a drunken mess. At first, she got me to spend less time waiting for her and finally put more effort in our marriage. She stopped spending hours at work, hanging up calls in the middle because of some event and spending every single moment she had into something else.

It became clear that my addiction was becoming stronger. Addhya gave up within weeks, chasing after success as I wondered what is our marriage lead to.

Maybe if the timing was different. If I met her another time, when we both were successful. If we had established careers before we fell in love. We'd make it out, we would have time for each other. Everyday won't be a struggle. Everyday won't be a hangover, empty bedsheets and watching the clock tick by.

Just if we had fell in love later. If married after we chased our careers. If I wasn't already so vulnerable after my mother's death. If school wasn't my cooling factor.

We would have been together. We might have been happy. There would have been an us.

But that didn't happen. Our relationship failed, promises were broken and achool was drunk.

She always had a smile.

I was too distracted to treasure those moments, drinking myself away to death. Ironic, her death had save me. Slowly, everyday, I'd wake up to an empty bed, an empty house with a missing sense of purpose.

That fact enough was enough for me to turn away from the poison, to realize that without, we would have been much happier. That her death was all my fault, that I lost everything I cared about because I was careless.

She paid for my mistakes. Now, I wasn't letting him get away with stealing her last moments. All I wanted was a goodbye, time to say I love you before she died.

My apology was never accepted neither were my tears at her funeral.

I was never a good husband to her while she was alive. Yes, we had our moments but our worst moments overtook them by miles.
I wish I could have said I loved her. I wish that I could trade my moments, I wish I could trade anything just to say those words. Just to say I'm sorry.

It's too late now and I'm determined to get rid of the man who had stood between my way.

My eyes meet Amir's and he smiles. He has no idea what's in store for him and I'll like to keep it that way. My hands reach in my pocket, feeling the cool mental of my phone. Only a few minutes to go. If I manage this, it'll all be over.

At last.

"What's with the smirk?" Amir frowns, looking at me. My lips move together quickly as I shake my head to indicate that there's nothing to hide.

Amir rolls his eyes at me, getting off the floor. "From now on, avoid my family. Don't you dare to come near me."

There's so many ways to hurt someone without coming close to them. He doesn't need to worry.

Short update, I know. The next chapter is a complete flashback so I hope that'll make up for it!
