Prologue

"Honey, are you sure this is a good idea? At such an early hour..." the man said in an uncertain but calm voice, dragging bags with things from the living room closer to the front door and having time to catch his foot on the sofa standing next to it.

"Of course, but when do you propose to do this? On the first of June," the woman replied louder and more confidently, continuing to put the remaining T-shirts in her briefcase.

Monday, on the clock almost eight in the morning. From the constant conversations of parents in the next room, dad's "aishch" or "oh" and the sound of zippered bags, Seulgi, who has a very sensitive sleep, could not help but wake up. Not understanding what they could do on the first day of summer so early, the girl came out of the bedroom, rubbing her eyes, and headed straight for them to find out what was going on.

"Mom? Dad? What do you do?" Kang mumbled sleepily, looking at all those suitcases that Dad had lined up at the door, and Mom, who diligently stuffed the last T-shirt into her backpack.

"Seulgi, we need to have a serious conversation," after coping with that ill-fated T-shirt, the woman put the satchel aside and approached her daughter, who looked at her in surprise. "Your father and I are very disappointed," she said with sadness and some irritation. "You finished this school year just horribly! Why has your academic performance deteriorated so much?"

After these words, Seulgi rolled her eyes, folding her hands on her chest and angrily turning away from her mother. Yes, yes, the annual grades and exam results came...

"Why did you skip classes on a regular basis? If you're tired or wanted to take a little break from such a fast pace, you could ask us and we'd let you stay home for the day, what's the problem? Why deceive both your parents and teachers?" the woman continued.

Ms. Kang genuinely did not understand why her daughter began to behave this way. Previously, there was no question of truancy, but here it turned out that she was the first in the list of those who did not attend classes.

"Have your friends influenced you that much? Did they drag you along instead of learning?" the mother gave out, running amok, but she was interrupted by Seulgi:

"Friends have nothing to do with it! Leave!" the girl shouted, looking furiously at her mother and about to leave the living room, but the woman managed to grab her hand and turn daughter towards her. Everything that was happening did not bother the sleepy dad much: he just watched, leaning against the couch, because he knew how everything would end up in the end.

"Did you think your dad and I wouldn't know about all this?" mom asked menacingly, looking her daughter straight in the eye, to which the father just waved his head, standing indifferently to the side. "Very silly of you, dear. From that day on, you will be punished."

Surprised even more, Seulgi opened her mouth. This phrase angered the girl with a new force. The long-awaited holidays have not yet begun, and here is such news!

"Seriously? During my legal vacation? Apparently you don't care that I already have plans to spend time with Irene, right?"

"You've already had enough of it," the woman cut off, turning away from the terribly disgruntled and angry Seulgi, whose cheeks and ears turned red from indignation, and her palms clenched into fists.

Putting a backpack full of things to the rest of the suitcases, Ms. Kang absolutely coolly and dryly announced.

"You'll spend this summer with your grandparents."

Awesome! In that village with no Internet, normal shower or toilet at all, chickens and goats walking around the yard, and at night toads croaking right under the windows? Oh no!

"What?! Mom! It's real hard labor!" out of frustration and indignation, Seulgi couldn't control herself. "How am I going to live there? I can't stand a day in such conditions!"

"What do you mean by 'such'? An ordinary village, don't dramatize," the unperturbed appearance of the mother infuriated the schoolgirl even more. How could she have done it so ruthlessly? Her parents know her attitude to the villages and everything connected with it: there is also a complete lack of civilization! "Moreover, your grandparents miss you very much and will be happy to see you every day in their home."

"So, you found out from them if they wanted to take me in, and no one bothered to ask me? I'm not going anywhere, period!" she felt rage and resentment with every inch of her skin, causing Kang to stomp her foot, expressing her protest.

On this harmless movement, the girl's mother only smirked, she had decided everything without her daughter, so she was not going to discuss plans for the summer with her. Whatever the reaction of the younger one, the woman was ready for anything, although Mrs. Kang expected the worst. So within minutes, an angry and frustrated Seulgi was driving in the back seat of her father's car to the bus stop to head straight for the village.

"We took you a bus ticket. We will definitely warn the driver so that on the way he does not stop the transport in any case because of the fact that you ask him. 'I want to go to the toilet' and 'oh, something makes me dizzy' will not pass. And your grandparents will be waiting for you at the final stop, so you will not be able to escape, no matter how much you want it," mom said smugly, reveling in the genius of her plan.

The car stopped at a red light, and the father, sitting in the driver's seat, turned his gaze to his wife, he had not yet seen his wife so controlling Seulgi, and even with such pleasure. Behind the man, only sighs were heard, the girl was not capable of more. Her boundless indignation simply did not allow her to come up with anything useful in her justification. Even though, deep down inside, Kang knew she deserved such punishment, and she still got off easy.
