"Everyone shield yourselves!" commanded Brynhild.
The Vikings and shieldmaidens got their shields and circularly surrounded the civilians. Ragnar did the same but noticed Sophia, holding the baby, was not part of the group; she looked at the couple's dead bodies. Ragnar contemplated what to do for a couple of seconds; with the shield in his arm, he ran toward Sophia and motioned her to the group. "Stay in the group; we are being attacked!"
Ragnar noticed Sophia was trance-like; her eyes looked hollow, and to his surprise, they slowly rolled in the back of her head. For Sophia, she felt as if time was going slow. Everything was silent around her, even though she could see the terrified and angry looks of the people around her. The baby's gurgles were heard, making her look down at the baby boy. The young woman got out of shock and was confused about why everything was moving slowly. She noticed that Ragnar was also going in slow motion and looked to be screaming as he covered her with his shield.
"Sophia," said a voice. This made her flinch momentarily as she felt the urge to walk forward. She heard her name being called again in an echo and walked to where the voice was coming from. While walking, she got over a small green hill, and from afar, there was a figure. The figure was tall and wore a long black cloak covering his entire body; it looked like a man. It was noticed that there were flocks of crows flying in the skies but in a circular motion on top of the figure.
This confused Sophia, but she felt it strange that she felt no fear. She noticed the baby gurgling at her. When she looked up, the figure got closer but kept his distance; the crows flew over them both. Looking at the man, she noticed he looked old with a hint of youth. His beard was slightly long and grey, as was his hair. She could see from his face, barely covered with the black cloak, that he had some tattoos. Her eyes widened when there was a noticeable trait; he only had one eye. "Y-You're...!?" Then, the figure pointed behind her. When she turned, there were many trees, but she saw the man in her dreams: Frode. He was the one who ordered the attack, and he was apart from the small army he gathered. She also noticed a figure behind him who slowly walked away. "W-Wait!"
Before Sophia could go forward, the figure got in front of her. "Blood will be spilled, and lives will be lost in your name. However, through blood and loss, three great Kings will be born. Their names will be remembered throughout history and lore."
Then, Sophia exited her trance, and time returned to normal. Screams echoed throughout the land, and Sophia noticed Ragnar standing before her with his shield held up high as arrows were falling from the sky. Sophia saw an older woman under a wooden cart, trying to shield herself from the attack. The young woman went to her. "Please, hold this child! I will return for him, but there is something I must do!"
The older woman was confused, but Sophia gently put baby Eric on the grass before her as the older woman held onto the child. Sophia got a sword, bow, and arrows from the cart. She then ran to the opposite side of the group and got out of the protective shield. Ragnar saw this and yelled for her to return. "They are coming upfront! There are many of them!" yelled Brynhild. "We must move forward to fight back!" The group moved forward, and some of the archers were seen from afar.
However, Ragnar left the group to get Sophia. Brynhild screamed for him to return, but he kept on running. He saw Sophia running into some parts of the forest and remembered her vision. "She's in danger!" Ragnar kept on going forward.
Meanwhile, Sophia ran closer to the forest and saw Frode hidden in the trees. Frode watched as the attack was taking place. He was angry that his plan was ruined and was going to attack the village early in the morning, but Ragnar arrived. Frode didn't want to risk an attack if a plan was made, so he ordered his men to follow and attack. However, he then saw Sophia running toward him. The Viking wanted to laugh aloud, thinking a woman would run to him. Then he thought about how she knew his location; Sophia ran at him with a sword, bow, and arrow. Frode was so deep in thought that a sudden pain hit him.
His eyes widened when he saw an arrow pierce him on the right side of his stomach. That was when he realized Sophia shot an arrow at him. "Face me, you coward!" Sophia put the bow on her shoulder. He carried the arrows and sword in hand as she ran closer. Frode felt rage that a woman was able to wound him.
"You vile witch! You dare challenge me!?" He got his sword and ran toward her. Sophia dropped the bow and arrow as she blocked the attack with grace. Her long hair flowed with the motion. She moved to the right as she turned, and the tip of her sword slashed a part of his right leg, making Frode fall onto one knee. As Sophia was going to make another strike, Frode swung his sword upward so hard that it made Sophia almost lose her grip. However, she was motioned back. Frode stood up as he attacked again with force and anger; he kicked Sophia in the stomach, making her fall. Her sword was out of her hands, and she tried to get it, but Frode put his foot on her face. The weight made her feel pain, and she couldn't move.
Frode was about to pierce her heart, but then he noticed Ragnar running closer to them. Frode then ran toward Ragnar. "Finally, alone at last!"
The swords collided, and they began to fight. Sophia's head and face were filled with pain, but at the corner of her eye, she noticed a hooded figure hidden in by the trees. "Y-You!" She saw the figure taking a bow and arrow and motioned it toward Ragnar.
Meanwhile, Ragnar was able to push Frode to the ground. Frode's sword was on the other side, and the older man tried to run. Ragnar was about to go after him but noticed the figure in the trees pointing an arrow at him. His eyes widened; the shock overwhelmed his body. The arrow was shot, and he saw Sophia running toward him.
Time felt slow again. Sophia eventually got to him and used her body to shield him. However, Ragnar got out of his senses and turned their bodies; his back was hit. Sophia screamed as Ragnar slowly fell to his knees.
Frode laughed but noticed that a group of Vikings were running their way; they weren't his men. He looked at the forest, and his assistant was no longer present. Frode got the arrow from his body, ran back to the forest where his horse was, and rode off.
