And then there were two

It had been about a week since Tommy was admitted to the hospital. Avians healed slower than the average human, so it wasn't surprising that he still wasn't recovered yet.

In the meantime, Tubbo and Ranboo have been searching harder than ever for a job. They had even done small quick jobs for their neighbors and friends from Tommy's work and their old work for quick cash. Anything to get the rent paid.

The whole process would have been easier if they could afford phones. It would've been so quick and easy. But, they've got to do it that hard way.

And after a long search,

They got a letter.

"Tubbo! Tubbo!" Ranboo shouted, running over to Tubbo. Ranboo was holding an envelope that seemed to have been already opened and read. He shoved the envelope into Tubbo's hands. "Read this!"

Tubbo gave him a skeptical look, then took the letter out of the opened envelope.

     "Dear Bo Underscore,

We sent you the letter to let you know that we've accepted your application. We expect to see you Monday at 9:00 am at the local hero agency tower. (Adress blurred for story purposes.) Welcome to SBI Inc.

                                                  Sincerely,

                                                  The SBI agency"

Tubbo's eyes widened from shock as he proceeded what he had just read.

He got into the hero agency. A higher-paying and harder to get accepted into job than any other in Logstedshire. He was going to work at the same place the heroes did.

Life was finally easing up on them. Tubbo looked at Ranboo and wrapped him in a tight hug. "I got hired!" Ranboo hugged him back. "I know! This is awesome! Now, I just need to find a job and then life can finally begin to return to normal."

Tubbo sat down on their couch. "Thank XD. It's about time."

Tubbo showed up on time at the exact place he was told to go. The tower was taller in person. It was probably tall enough to be considered a skyscraper. There was no doubt he was in the richer part of town.

The building was absolutely beautiful on the inside. The place was a very modern and professional establishment. At the front desk, there were two receptionists. A pink-haired lady and a bald guy with heterochromia in his eyes. One was blue and the other was red, almost like 3D glasses.

Tubbo walked over to the pink-haired woman. She seemed more friendly than the other guy. She smiled at him as he walked over. "You're the new employee, Bo Underscore, am I right?" He smiled back at her. "Yes ma'am."

She nodded, then looked down at her computer and typed something. She looked back up at him and held out her hand. "I'm Niki Nihachu, your new co-worker." Tubbo shook her hand. She looked over at the bald guy. "This is Jack Manifold. Also your new coworker." Jack looked at him, quickly shook his hand, then immediately looked back over at the computer. Probably going back to doing his work.

"Someone is coming down to train you for your job in just a minute. Mind sitting over in our waiting area?" Tubbo nodded to show he understood and went where he was told.

His job in the tower was to clean and to fill in for one of the receptionists when someone couldn't show up at work. It was quite an easy job. Plus, everyone there was super kind. The whole thing was definitely worth his time.

He didn't run into any heroes for the first couple of weeks. They had already left to go on patrol before he got there. On his third week of working there, Niki sent him to the tech department to help out the agency's mechanic.

"Bo, you have experience with technology, right?" Niki asked him when he came in. "Yeah, loads." Niki glanced down at her computer to read something, then looked back up at him. "Great. Our mechanic is here today, visiting from the Greater SMP. He needs some assistance, so I was told to send you over to him.

Niki directed him to an office that was more like a laboratory. There was a door in the corner with a funny poster on it. He assume that was a supply closet because of the meme on the poster.

"Awesamdude?" Tubbo asked, standing awkwardly in the empty room. Out of what he assumed was the supply closet, a creeper hybrid's head popped out. "Mr. Underscore?" The hybrid asked.

"Yes sir." The creeper hybrid left the mysterious room and walked over to him. "You can call me Sam, Mr. Underscore." Tubbo smiled at him. "Oh, nice to meet you, Sam." Tubbo shook his hand. "You can call me Bo." Sam smiled back at him. "Nice to meet you, Bo."

Sam turned to the table beside him and grabbed a bunch of papers with costume design sketches on them. He looked back at Tubbo. "As you probably know, I am the SBI hero agency's mechanic. I help build and repair the hero's suits and stuff."

Tubbo nodded. "Yeah. What did you need my help with?" Sam handed him the papers he was holding. Tubbo turned the papers around and looked at the designs. Immediately he noticed some flaws. "I heard you were pretty good with technology and programming."

"Yes sir- uh, yes I am Sam." Sam laughed at his slip up. "Today, you're going to help me fix with the Crowfather's hero suit. He should be arriving in an hour. So before then, I want to go over this design with you."

Tubbo looked back down at the papers he was holding and flipped through them. He walked over to the table Sam got the papers from and sat down, putting the papers back on the table for Sam to see.

Tubbo grabbed a pencil and began circling the flaws he saw and Sam sat down next to him. "This stuff won't work with the suit. They're not compatible pieces-" Tubbo went on to explain all of the flaws he'd found.

When the Crowfather finally arrived, they had come up with a perfect design. The avian knocked on the door, then walked in. "Hello, Sam. Mr. Underscore." Bo stared at the Crowfather in amazement. He never thought he would see him in person again.

Philza was now shaking his hand. "What's your name?" Tubbo snapped out of his little trance and shook his hand back. "Bo. Call me Bo. Nice to meet you, sir." He laughed. "Philza Minecraft. Nice to meet you as well Bo. What have you two come up with?"

Sam handed him the new design him and Tubbo had come up with. Philza nodded. "This looks amazing. Do you have colored pencils? I want to pick the colors." Tubbo handed him a box of colored pencils. Philza colored the pieces the colors he wanted the suit to be and left the netherite uncolored, most likely because he knew how hard it is to paint on netherite.

"It's a bit ironic, isn't it? Being a vigilante that works at a hero agency?" Tommy asked Tubbo and Ranboo when they had visited him and told him all about their week.

"Yeah, I guess. But it's super fun and pays better than that diner ever did. Oh! And Mark finally got a job as well. At the factory." Tubbo chose his wording carefully, knowing fully well that there were cameras in that room that was recording their conversation.  "Yeah! Also has a better pay than that stupid diner. We're going to have heating!" Tommy laughed. "Finally. It's about time. No more cold winters!"

Tommy laid down and sighed. "The weirdest things make us happy, don't they?" Ranboo shrugged. "Probably. But I mean, what do you expect? We've been living on such little money for so long. Thank XD that's changing." Ranboo said happily.

"Anyways, how're you feeling Thomas?" Ranboo asked, changing the subject. Tommy stayed silent for a bit and thought about it. Tubbo and Ranboo worriedly glanced at each other, then back at Tommy. "Better."

"Mentally or physically?" Tommy stared up at the ceiling and didn't respond. "Thomas?"

"Just... Better, alright?" Tommy said. "Let's talk about something else." Tubbo sighed. "Um... The crime rate here has risen again." Tommy looked at Tubbo. "Again? There's got to be something going on in this city. There's no way nothing is causing this." Tubbo nodded. "Definitely."

Their conversation was cut short when they heard the door open. Tommy looked over and saw a recognizable brown-haired man peek his head in. "Thomas?" Tommy sat up and smiled. "Wilbur! My loyal customer."

Wilbur pulled up a chair and sat across from Tubbo and Ranboo. "Feeling better?" Tommy shrugged. "I guess. Why did you stop by?"

Tubbo and Ranboo looked at each other as Wilbur and Tommy were having a conversation of their own. "What. The. Fuck?" Tubbo whispered very quietly so only Ranboo would hear. Ranboo shrugged and looked back at Wilbur.

"Are you the one you brought him here?" Ranboo asked him. Wilbur turned to face Ranboo. "Yeah. Oh! You don't know me. I'm Wilbur." Wilbur held his hand out for Ranboo and Tubbo to shake. Ranboo smiled at him. "I'm Mark, and this is Bo." Ranboo and Tubbo shook his hand.

"Hello, nice to meet you," Tubbo said as he shook his hand. "How do you know Thomas by the way?" Tubbo asked Wilbur. "Met him at his work- that coffee place. How do you know him?"

"We're brothers." Wilbur gave Tubbo a skeptical look when Tubbo said that. "You don't look alike." Tubbo shrugged. "Yeah, we've got different mothers. Mine was a goat hybrid, his was an avian hybrid." Wilbur nodded, finally looking like he understood.

Tommy rolled his eyes. "Why are guys being so formal?" Wilbur laughed. "I don't know. I just met these people."

Wilbur looked back at Tubbo and Ranboo. "The doctor told you that I offered to pay the medical bill, right?" Wilbur asked. "Yeah, thank you by the why. We've recently been struggling a lot money-wise. Me and Bo's old jobs had shit down, so only Thomas had a job for a bit.

Wilbur gave him a sympathetic look. "That's got to of sucked. Everything here is so expensive."

"Yeah. I mean- look at Thomas. Look where we are. I hate that everything is so pricey here."

"Why don't you move?"

"I think you know."

"Costs too much?"

"Yeah," Tubbo responded rather monotonous, then bursting out into laughter. Tommy laid back down and looked at Ranboo, who seemed confused. Ranboo looked back at Ranboo and shrugged. "Yeah, I don't know what to tell you."

------

The Tubbo shapeshifted into a small bird and perched on a telephone pole. "Tubbo, can you hear anything yet?" Ranboo asked Tubbo through an earbud he was wearing underneath his mask. Tubbo designed the earbud to only connect to the second one so no one could hack it and listen to him and whoever had the earbud's matching pair's conversation.

"No, of course not, dickhead."

"Then get closer."

"I'm trying to. It's not as easy as you think. If I rush, then I'll look suspicious." Tubbo snapped back sassily.

Tubbo flew down, landing on the roof of the Eggpire's base. He shifted into a rat and crawled inside through a crack in the roof, then made his way down to the basement. Just like before, he found a good hiding spot and listened to their conversation.

Well, Ranboo was listening. He had Ranboo recording from the other earbud. Tubbo, however, was spacing out again. He broke out of his bored trance when he heard someone say that the meeting was over and he saw feet start to file out of the room. Once he saw that everyone was gone, he crawled onto the room's table and looked at their plans.

Tubbo quickly shifted into a random person he'd seen before and taken out an old-fashioned camera that someone had given away to him for free. He took a photo of their plans and papers, then shifted back into a rat to make his flawless escape.

Tubbo had managed to print out the photos he had taken and played out loud the recording Ranboo took.

"Hold shit. They're taking down the SBI agency." Ranboo said, looking over at Tubbo in fear. "Of course they're taking it down!" Tubbo shouted. "The heroes that agency deployed to this area have been covering this town. They've probably got almost no work done."

Ranboo paced the room. "No, no, no... Oh XD... Tubbo, you work there! What are we going to do?" Tubbo whipped his head over to where Ranboo was pacing. "Stop them of course. They can't do that, it's not only highly illegal, but it will hurt and kill so many civilians."

Ranboo nodded in agreement. "Whatever it takes, right?"

"Whatever it takes."
