The Letter

"So this is where you were," I peaked my head inside the king's library, finding Soo-won reading some accounts and books on the tribes. He put the scroll he was reading down, looking at me with a soft gaze. "As you predicted, we discovered a secret account," Kye-sook stated, walking along side me. "There are signs that taxes were being illegally managed." I handed him over the record book with the detailing, and he pated my head, saying, "Good work." I continued, "I have already dismissed the man in charge. Evidently, the corruption runs deep."

He looked down at the book and grazed over it, saying, "King Is was a kind man..." he turned to look at me, "Kindness is not a crime, but sometimes, it awakens the weakness and greed in others. "Yes, I am aware." "Your Majesty, the late King In forbade anyone from reading that," Kye-sook motioned to one of the books sitting on the desk. I recognized it immediately, and it brought me back to the memory of the dream. "It's a book on the legend of the four dragons. When I was a child, I would often sneak in here to see Vienna and find great excitement in reading this book."

For a moment, I thought about telling him about my dream, of how, supposedly, the warrior dragons were alive, until he finished his statement. "But it's only a fairy tale. Gods of fantasy cannot put the Kingdom of Kouka back right." The look he had was a stiff and cold one, almost as if he was not the same person, but I knew better. I had been observing him for a long time, and knew that how he acted was to get others to do as he pleased. I nodded at his remark, finding nothing else to say, and went back to looking at the accounts.

At night, as always, Ahi escorted me to my room, but once I entered, I noticed a small letter on my vanity. "Ah, Mundok told me to give it to you," the black haired bodyguard said, "But in the morning I forgot." I laughed a little at his carelessness, sitting down to open the letter. Even if the letter was from Mundok, the letter didn't read as so, and caught me by surprise.

"Dear Vienna:
I'm probably the last person you'd like to hear from, but I had to write to you. I was chased out of the castle the night of our father's murder, and just wanted you to know that neither I nor Hak are to blame. I won't disclose the name of the murderer, because he is still stationed in the castle, and your life would be put in immediate danger. Don't trust anyone. Even so, if you'd like to know where I am, I will tell you. Please, if you don't wish to know, burn this letter, so no one can find it.

I went to see a priest in the mountains, around the Wind Clan's lands. After seeing how the Fire Tribe hurt the merchants that regularly visit Fuuga, I have decided to do something for myself, and this priest will guide my way. I hope that you're doing okay, and I hope I get to see you again. I love you, I miss you, and I'm sorry.

- Y."

Definitely, this was a joke. It had to be. What else would this be? But it was clearly her handwriting, her phrasing and her tears, most likely, in the letter. My eyes widened, and my breath hitched after re-reading the piece over and over again. "So? What does it say?" Ahi asked, making me stiffen. Don't trust anyone, she said. Anyone, not even Ahi. "Oh, he just apologized for what happened in the meeting more thoroughly. I don't need this right now," I improvised, moving over to light the paper on fire, dumping it on a metal vase I used for this purpose. "Ah, at least he did so. Have a good night, Princess," he smiled, closing my door as he exited.

The priest, the dream. All of what I had seen was true. Yona did go see the priest, and he did speak to her, and to me. The dragons, the myths, it was all true? My head was beginning to spin and ache just thinking about everything. And the killer? He was still in the castle? I laid in bed, thinking on what to do next. Should I tell Soo-won? But she said not to trust anyone. If this person was still in the castle, had control of the guards, chased my sister and Hak out of the castle, then I was in danger too. I had to get out of here. I fell in a deep sleep after a few hours, and had another dream.
~
I stood looking towards a small cottage in the woods, where the priest was sitting inside, at the foot of a fire. Unlike my past dream, it was night time, around the same time I had fallen asleep. "Welcome, Princess Vienna. Please, sit," he motioned, and I did as he instructed. "You're probably wondering what this all is. Let me explain," he started, "You have a very special connection to the heavens, and it allows me to show you things in your dreams. This, right now, is indeed a dream. But we don't have much time." I turned my head, trying to analyze what he was saying.

"If you wish to locate your sister, she has already left to find the white dragon. I will point the way for you, but only if you wish to join her in finding the four dragon warriors." My breath hitched, and I gulped. If I chose to join her in finding the dragon warriors, it meant leaving the safety of the castle, leaving Soo-won, leaving Ahi, and leaving my kingdom. "What... What do I gain from this?" "Your life will create a storm in the kingdom of Kouka," he frowned, "And I know, just like your sister, the boiling of your blood will not cease. Not unless you walk on the path of destiny." "Then I have no choice," I blurted out, "If I want to protect my kingdom, my people, I must quench my thirst for justice. I will join my sister."

The blond priest nodded, lowering his head. "Alright. They're on their way here," he pointed out to a map that sat on his right side, where his finger laid on an area inside the Fire Tribe and close to the kingdom boarder. "If you leave tomorrow night, you can catch up to them." I looked at the map for a while, wanting to memorize the location before I woke up. "Good luck, Princess. The heavens are in your favor." With his words, I woke up early in the morning on a whim, but trying to make no sound as I organized my scattered thoughts. I need to leave tonight, but how will I do it?

I could use a secret exit I had used before to visit the nearby town, and I could very well defend myself thanks to Ahi and Hak. And so, I decided on the following plan: I would make it seem as if I was kidnapped. I would scatter things through my room, exit through the window, leave through the secret exit near the east garden, and run. Now, all I had left to do is keep low, do my job for today, and hope no one notices what I am planning.
