Chapter 20 - Memories and Sweet Cream
Ink's POV
I stretched as I stepped off the bus. It was around seven in the evening and we spent the entire day riding the bus. Even though I was a bit sad because the trip was over, it still felt great to get home.
Error was texting his parents to pick him up and I was looking for my mom's car. Then I spotted her in the parking lot. My boyfriend noticed my movements of gathering my suitcases.
Error: I'll see you tomorrow morning, Ink?
Me: Yup.
Error hugged me before whispering to me.
Error: Love you.
Me: Love you too.
I blushed rainbow as I responded to him. When we backed away, I noticed that Error had a hold of my brown scarf. He had a playful grin.
Error: So you have a reason to visit me.
Me: Take good care of it.
Error: I will, don't worry.
I smiled as I took my stuff and headed towards my mom's car. After stacking my stuff in the back seat, I slid into the one next to mom.
Mom: Hey baby, how was your trip and where is your brown scarf?
Me: It was good and a friend is borrowing it.
I blushed rainbow as I thought about my boyfriend. Mom immediately noticed before grinning to herself.
Mom: Come on Ink, spit it out. Who is he?
Me: Error.
Mom: That boy who bullies you?
Me: He doesn't anymore. We're dating now actually.
Mom: Huh. Well I wasn't expecting that but as long as you're happy.
She pulled out of the parking lot and began to drive on the road.
Mom: Want to get ice cream?
Me: Really?
Mom: Yeah. We haven't done it in awhile.
I nodded. The last time we got ice cream was with dad. Ginger was just a pup back then.
(Time Skip)
Mom and I sat in a table outside of the ice cream shop. The weather was nice tonight so we decided to sit out here.
I was using a spoon to eat a chocolate shake with cookie dough. It was always better to use a spoon because then you can get the goodies that sunk to the bottom. Mom was sipping from a classic vanilla.
I was thinking when I heard mom speak.
Mom: I'm going to give up on dating. There's just no one I can make a connection with. Your father was too special to me.
Me: What were you and dad like in school?
She started to laugh at her memories of him.
Mom: Oh my god, I hated him when we were in high school but... I was still attracted to him. He was the class clown and he would never stop teasing me. Despite me being popular, he still did it.
I smiled and began to laugh as well.
Mom: He had gotten on my nerves one time that I actually punched him. I gave him a bruise for a couple of days.
She paused for a minute to breathe.
Mom: One day, when I was at my locker, he leaned against the one next to me and casually asked, with a straight face... "Do you want to go with me?"
Me: What did you say?
Mom: I obviously said yes. But that's not the funny part. When I did say yes, your father began to walk away with a sad expression because he didn't realize that I said yes. But once he finally processed it, he quickly turned around to look at me and smiled.
Me: He was expecting you to say no.
Mom: Exactly! All my friends thought I was crazy because he had been teasing me for so long. Then, couple of years down the road, he asked me to marry him after he finished college. Of course I said yes. And then I had you.
I was gawking over the fact that my dad was so different in school. I would have never imagined.
My milkshake wasn't finished but mom's was, allowing her to be able to drive. We stood up from our table and got into the car. During our small trip of heading home, we talked about random topics. At times like this...
I really missed dad
