Chapter 4

"Hey, Vernie!" I said as I sat down with April in the booth with Vern and his girlfriend.

"Victoria, enough with the silly name," Vern said, "Victoria, April, this is Alessandra Ambrosio."

"Nice to meet you," April said politely.

"Yeah, good to see old Vern here finally get a date," I say.

April kicks me under the table. She gives me a warning look.

I sigh and look around the cafe. It's music themed and a small stage is in the middle of the room for people to preform.

"I was just telling Alessandra that Victoria used to sing a little," Vern said.

"Oh, yeah," April said, "I remember when we were little se used to sing all the time."

"That was a long time ago," I shake my head, "Besides I wasn't even that good."

"April said other wise," Vern disagrees.

"You know, I bet the manager would let you sing. If you asked," Alessandra says to me.

"Oh, no, I don't really like to sing in front of too many people."

"There's like three other people here," She says glancing around.

"Well, you know what they say, three's a crowd," I laugh nervously.

"Please?" April asks.

Vern gets a look on his face that says he's gotten an idea, "Never mind April, I don't plan on going deaf anytime soon."

I narrow my eyes at him, "Well, do you plan on dying? Cause that's what's gonna happen to you, if you don't shut up."

He puts his hands up in surrender, "Hey, just saying. I get that you're scared and not good enough to sing in front of people, everyone's afraid of something."

"I am not afraid to sing in front of people, besides a lot of people have stage fright," I defend myself.

"Okay, fine," He says, but mutters under his breath, "big baby."

I stand up and walk onto the stage. The manager comes up to me.

"Don't say I can't be up here, cause I have something to prove and I'm not really in the best of moods right now," I snap.

"I was just going to ask what you wanted to sing," He says.

"Oh, here," I write it down on his clipboard. Then I recognize his voice, "Jorge Cruz?"

"Victoria?" He then recognizes me.

"Oh my god, I thought you moved to Cali! Where have you been?"

"I was in Cali, but I came back cause I missed the big city life," He smiles.

"You miss the crazy tempered New Yorkers? Or the sweet smell of smog in the morning?" I say sarcastically.

"Actually I missed the feeling you get when you yell at someone to get the fuck out of the way," He jokes around.

I laugh, "Of course you did."

"We need to catch up, its been like two, three years," He says.

"I agree."

"I'll just get the DJ ready and I'll signal you when it's starting," He walks off stage and heads towards the DJ.

I see him give me a thumbs up after a while. I nod back as the song starts.

Song: Sirens by Cher Loyd

I carry the weight of you in my heavy heart
And the wind is so icy, I am numb
I carry the weight of you heading back to start
With the thousand eyes on me, I stumble on

I am tired, I'm growing older
I'm getting weaker every day, yeah
I carry the weight of you
I carry the weight of you

Lay down here beside me in the shallow water
Beside me where the sun is shining on us still
Lay down here beside me in the hallowed water
Beside me where the silver lining stays until
The sirens' calling

We follow the sun down low 'til we hit the night
And you hold me so tightly, it's hard to breathe, oh

And I'm tired, I'm growing older
I'm getting weaker every day, yeah
We follow the sun down low
We follow the sun down low

Lay down here beside me in the shallow water
Beside me where the sun is shining on us still
Lay down here beside me in the hallowed water
Beside me where the silver lining stays until
The sirens' calling
The sirens' calling

Yeah, I'm tired, I'm growing older
I'm getting weaker every day, yeah
I am drowning, and you're stealing every breath
Take me away and just

Lay down here beside me in the shallow water
Beside me where the sun is shining on us still
Lay down here beside me in the hallowed water
Beside me where the silver lining stays until
The sirens' calling
The sirens' calling

I didn't even notice that while I was singing the cafe started filling up with more people, until everyone started clapping and cheering for me.

I looked around and saw Jorge give me two thumbs up before clapping again.

Jorge runs up beside me.

"How about we hear it for the wonderfully talented, Victoria!" He shouts.

I blush and take a small bow.

Once I returned back to my group Vern accused me of lying.

"You said you don't sing in front of people, but not once did you stop when their place started filling up with people," He states.

"Victoria, that was amazing!" Alessandra says, "You've really got a gift."

"I guess," I shrug.

Then Jorge walked up to me.

"Oh, hey, guys this is my friend Jorge," I introduced them, "Jorge this is April, Vern, and Vern's girlfriend Alessandra."

"Nice to meet you all," Jorge seemed nervous, "Victoria there's some people who want to talk to you."

"Tell them I'm busy," I shrug.

Jorge grabbed my arm and dragged me to the back room.

"You have to get out of here, look I don't know what you've done to get the cops' attention but that's who wants to talk to you."

I was confused, "Wait, who called the cops?"

"Most likely someone in the audience, " Jorge shrugged, "I know it's been a while since we seen each other, but I know you more than you think. And I know you would never do anything bad, that's why you need to get out of here."

There was a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" Jorge called in the worst impression of a girl's voice.

I stifled some laughter, "That was so gay."

Jorge glared and put his index finger over his lips.

"NYPD!" A gruff voice said.

"Shit," I cursed. Then I got an idea, "Jorge help up in the air vent."

"Are you crazy?!?" He responded, "It can't hold your weight."

"I'm not that fat," I jumped up and grabbed onto the grate of the air vent.

Jorge was about to hand me a screw driver, but the grate gave away on its own.

"What's going on in there?!?!" The cop called.

"Nothing," Jorge repeated in the girly voice.

"Dude, you aren't that convincing," I laughed.

"Hurry up, you owe me a new air vent grate...thingy," Jorge said.

I jumped and he boosted me up to the air vent. I crawled in and made my way through the vent system.

Once I found another grate that led to the girls' restroom I, struggled, but I managed to kick it open.

When I jumped down I saw how weird the bathroom looked with those fancy urinals....wait.

"So, Bob-" a man on his phone walked in and froze when he saw me.

"This isn't the kitchen! Wow, sorry I got a little lost and ended up here," I said coming up with some lame ass excuse.

"The kitchen is the one at the end of the hall," The man said.

"I know that now," I nodded and casually walked out of the men's restroom, surprising some older women passing by outside.

I awkwardly smiled and walked away.

I managed to slip out of the cafe unnoticed. Until, April caught up to me as I was about to take off on my motorcycle.

"Where'd you go? I thought you were in trouble, the cops are asking around for you," She said.

"I had to get away," I shrugged, "Did you know that air vents are really cold?"

She rolled her eyes, "Well, Vern's girlfriend was almost about to rat you out-"

"What?!? Whatever, I didn't like her anyway," I muttered.

"But, Vern stopped her and explained everything."

"Everything! Did he tell her about..."

"No, just that it was a misunderstanding and you weren't the girl they're after," April reassured.

"Well, Vern can be useful...sometimes," I admitted.

"Can't you stop picking on him?"

"Nope, he's like an annoying older brother. So it's fun to pick on him," I grinned.

"You still got the gem stone?" April says.

"Yep," I nodded, "Do you still have access to Police reports and files on people?"

"Yes," She says slowly anticipating what I'm getting at.

"Well, I need your help," I said, "I'm looking for two people who are very important-don't ask why, cause I can't tell you."

"Why can't you tell me?"

"Because-ugh, please trust me. I'm your best friend," I pleaded.

"Fine, who am I looking for?" She asks.

"Her name's Alice White, along with her friend Venus, but I don't know her real name," I said climbing onto my motorcycle.

"Okay, Alice White, shouldn't be too hard," April said, "I'll call you if I need anything."

"Cool, I gotta take off," I put on my helmet.

"Alright, see you at home," April says.

"Home...now that's a word I hadn't used in a while," I chuckled.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I opened the file room door and was about to step insides when-
"O'neil what are you doing here at eleven o'clock at night?" Thompson's voice rang out behind me.
"I-uh, I need to check some files I placed in here and make sure I have everything for the story I'm working on," I replied.
"Hmm, what story?" She said raising an eyebrow.
"Just a new one, if it turns out successful you'll read about it in the newspaper," I said hurrying into the room and closing the door.
I let out a breath and began searching for Alice White's file.
"Great," I groan when I find not one, but three boxes full of files with the last name 'White'.
I searched through both boxes for like an hour and a half, and found no one with the name as Alice White. I knew I had heard that name once, but I couldn't remember where exactly.
"Alice White...Alice...White!" I finally remembered where I had heard it.
I found the file and called Victoria to tell her.
"The Mayor's daughter!!!" She yelled surprised through the phone.
"Yeah, I knew I'd heard the name before, and then I remembered I had interviewed an Alice White before. She's the Mayor's daughter," I replied locking the file room door.
"Great, my job just became twenty times harder," I heard Victoria mutter.
"Job? What job."
"Oh, nothing bad, but where does the file say she lives?" Victoria asks.
"Look, either you tell me what exactly this job is, or you're not getting the file," I blackmail.
"Blackmail, huh? I've taught you so well," I could practically see her grinning.
"Victoria...." I say in a warning voice.
"April," she mocks me, "Ugh, fine. This guy is wanting me to keep his cousin and her friend safe from you-know-who."
"Voldemort?" I play around.
"No, you idiot, Shredder. You know, evil, Japanese, wears armor that resembles a Transformer?"
I laugh, "And is also your father?"
"Don't remind me," She moans.
"Whatever, I'll meet you at the apartment so you can see the file," I say.
"Actually, I'm not at the apartment," She says.
"Then where at you at?" I stop walking.
"With the turtles," She says.
"You mean, Raph?" I tease.
"No...maybe...fine, I'm in his bed," She says.
"Taking things to that level are we?" I smirk.
"No! They're out, so I'm just...keeping his bed warm," She tries.
"That's a lame excuse," I shake my head.
"Shut it! Whatever, Raph'll kill me if he sees me on his bed," She says.
"Sure he will, after he screws-"
"Don't say it! You know what? You're being mean...goodbye!" She hangs up.
"Talk about rude," I frown.
I hang up my phone and stuff the file into my bag. I hop onto my bike and head towards the man hole that leads to the turtles' lair.
I lean my bike against the side of the building.
"What happened to your other ride?" a voice says behind me.
I jump and turn around to see a guy in a hockey mask.
"Oh, you're not that motorcycle chick?" He says.
"No, I'm not," I say, "Who are you? And why are you here?"
"I was hoping to see the girl I met the other day, she must be your friend considering you guys hang out in the same alleyway," he says gripping his hockey stick.
"Yeah, why do you need her?" I say.
"Just, some business to take care of," He says, "Well, you tell her I'm looking for her, will you?"
"Maybe I will," I cross my arms, "If you stop being so vague and tell me what's going on."
"Wait, you're a news reporter, aren't you? I've seen you on tv before, you actually might be of help to me," He says pointing to me.
"How?"
"I'll, meet you here tomorrow if you want a story that'll get you noticed," He says as he starts to walk away, "Oh, and bring your friend."
"Wait!" I yell after him, but he's already gone. I frown and decide it's not safe to head down to the lair, instead I head back home.
A/N: Well...here it is!!!! Lol. Another chapter...
Well, I heard and read that Vern was gonna have a girlfriend played by Alessandra Ambrosio. I didn't know what her name was gonna me so I just used her real name, I might change it.
Also, I know the turtles aren't really in this chapter, but I promise they'll be in the next one. Just go with it please...
BTW I changed this book to 'mature' cause it's more than likely going to have strong language in it and sex jokes. So if you don't feel comfortable with that kind of stuff don't stop reading!!! I'll put some kind of warning before the chapter starts. It's not gonna be like full on sex, no I'm not really into that stuff.
I guess that's it. Comment, Vote, and Follow! Thanks for reading.
