Sardar Udham Singh

Just watched 'Sardar Udham Singh', and realised how we take freedom for granted. We should thank our ancestors and the brave freedom fighters for being able to go wherever you wish today, do whatever you want to, have the permission to speak our minds.

Since I was a child I never wanted to work abroad. I always felt that I had a debt to my motherland and I need to work my debt off. But during the last few days after reading some news articles and stuff, like how our censor board consists of an absolute bunch of sexist morons and shit I felt that maybe working abroad is not such a bad idea after all. But after watching this movie I feel so guilty to even think of that.

India was the richest country in the 1700's before the british invaded us. It was called 'the golden bird' for a reason. They exploited us in the most cruel way. They looted from us and treated us as their pets. They disrespected us, our culture, our land, our principles, everything. They killed our people, millions of innocent lives were strangled by their hands. They caused famines, stole our artifact's, jewels and left India in a state of ruin. They caused the Jallianwala Massacre. And we have yet to receive an apology from them, even after a 100 years from that awful tragedy, no, MASSACRE. We can now definitely conclude that British invasion was the worst thing to ever happen to India, although my father would disagree with me on that, but anyways as much as we look alike our opinions and approach to life are the complete opposite.

General Reginald Dyer deserves the title of the 'butcher of Amritsar'. In the movie they showed Michael O'Dwyer, the Governor of Punjab in 1919, giving a speech about how the British rule was good for India and how if they left us we would kill and loot each other, whereas he was the one that ordered the soldiers to shoot at their own. I can't believe how those soldiers agreed to shoot at their own?? He also talks about how it is not only the british's right but duty to rule on India, and talks about how Africa and India are the 'white man's burden'. I felt so angry watching that. And he showed absolutely no remorse or guilt for the Jallianwala Massacre and talked about how they deserved it!!!!! He deserved a more cruel death than the one he got!!!!

A few days back I was listening to the stand up comedy act by Shashi Tharoor, and he talks about how we have yet to receive an apology from the British and about how when we go to starbucks in England and they spell our name wrong and when we correct them and they apologise, we should go with "Just for the coffee?" and I found that absolutely hilarious that day, but today I felt that maybe he's right.I know, I know it's not their fault and it was their ancestors and stuff but when they continue to glorify people responsible for huge massacres as national heroes and label our freedom fighters as terrorists, maybe we should do that. We even remember the time our neighbour refused to lend us something and take revenge on that, and you expect us to forgive and forget such a huge thing? We Indians never forgive nor forget.

To all the Brits reading this, sorry if this hurts you in anyway but your ancestors were kind of assholes. Wait a second, since y'all ( British govt) didn't apologize, I too am under no obligation to do so. So just suck it!!
