Chapter 6: One-on-one
The next following days have been nothing but lessons, lessons and lessons. Honestly, if it weren't for my motivation to learn especially since I have been accepted into UA High School, I would've fallen asleep by now. My favourite part of each day so far has been lunch time. Who wouldn't like a nice break and being able to have a nice chat with your new friends? That is, if you have any friends of course, unlike me.
As usual, during lunch time, I went to order my food and sat at an empty table. Arata had wanted to join me before, but I'd rather eat alone than eat with someone who almost killed me years ago. On this particular day however, another familiar face approached me and asked if it was okay to sit down with me. It was Todoroki Shoto. I just said yes because he did save me a few days back from another dreadful fate. he quietly sat down opposite of where I was seated and started eating.
"Why did you suddenly decide to eat with me? Don't you have other better friends to eat with?" I finally said, breaking the silence between us.
He paused for awhile before saying, "I'm interested in you. Your quirk, I mean."
I almost choked on my food when he said the first sentence. "O-oh," I replied, regaining my composure. "What do you want to know about my quirk?"
"How did you pause time, only for me but not the rest of the class during the first test? Some classmates told me that was the case," he uttered, "and it seems like you need to be bleeding in order for your quirk to work."
"Yes, but bleeding isn't the only condition for it to work though. I must be a hundred percent focused, if I was even a bit distracted, it wouldn't work at all. And also, I can choose who to not get affected by the change in time, that would allow them to see my quirk in action," I articulated my answer clearly, as if I was taking an oral examination back in grade school. He nodded at my answer before the silence resumed. "Your quirk is being able to manipulate ice, right?" I just questioned so it wouldn't be too awkward.
"My quirk is half cold, half hot. I can control both ice and fire, but I rather not use the 'hot part' of my quirk," he looked away as he said that.
"Why not?" I asked, genuinely curious as to why he doesn't use his quirk to its full potential.
"I hate this side of my quirk. It's... unsightly," he replied with a hint of coldness in his voice.
I figured it was something personal and sensitive to talk about, so I didn't ask any further. We eventually finished eating and left each other. After that, it was lessons, again. Up until it was All Might's class. Abruptly, the cabinets at the sides of the classroom opened up, revealing some costumes. "These are your hero costumes, find yours and put them on! Then meet me again at Grounds B," All Might instructed. Of course, the class was thrilled. Everyone was looking around, trying to find the costume that they had designed and submitted before the school term started. I got up from my seat, my eyes were already set on mine. I had implemented many hidden blades in my costume that can be activated so I didn't have to take out a boring penknife everytime I want to use my quirk and also, just in case I had to use my quirk quickly without drawing too much attention. I strided towards my costume and I couldn't help but feel exhilarated about it too. I quickly took mine out and headed towards the locker room to change. (You are free to imagine how your hero costume looks like!)
Eventually, everyone gathered at Grounds B as All Might has instructed, looking flashy with their new costumes. Somehow, I couldn't help but gaze at Shoto's costume. His was simple-looking and not as 'loud' as the other's. He also had ice covering his left torso while his right had nothing but a white shirt and a gold-coloured combat vest which I assume is the 'hot part' of his quirk that he found unsightly. Somehow, in one way or another, my eyes wandered and found Arata. His costume was simple as well, after all, his quirk was simple too. He just had his normal black eyepatch covering one of his eyes followed by a full black costume. The key point of his quirk were his eyes after all.
"You must be wondering, what are we doing here with our hero costumes put on? Here's your answer, we will be having an indoor battle. The class will be split into villain and hero groups for a two-on-two team battle!" All Might said with his mighty voice. (lol why did I say that HAHA) At this point, the whole class were enlivened. "So, the goal of the villains is to guard a nuclear weapon they intend on deploying while the heros have to stop their scheme! If the heroes capture the villains or reach the nuclear weapon and touch it before the time runs out, the heroes win. Likewise, if the villains manage to keep the nuclear weapon safe for the whole time or if they managed to capture the heroes, the villains win." I grinned, it was finally time for some action. "I will be deciding each pair through lottery! And also, one of the battles will be one-on-one due to the number of students in this class." And so, the pairs were decided. My name haven't been called out yet. Even after everyone else has been paired up.
"Oh, we have 2 more names left, so this will be the one-on-one battle!" All Might exclaimed before he took out the last two names, my name and Arata's. "(Y/N), you'll be the villain while Arata is the hero," he instructed. My heart started pounding hard. It was throwing itself against my ribcage continuously. I was up against... Arata.
