Well it was now official,Adaora my best friend was now part of Amanda's group..wow, awesome.

I was sitting alone in class watching as she laughed occasionally,she seemed happier with them,maybe I was actually a bad friend. I sighed at the thought and flipped open the first page of the chemistry textbook.

"Veronica I don't understand this your friend Adaora, what is she doing with Amanda?" Bisi asked almost in a whisper,she was not wearing the tie and as usual she had a lollipop in her mouth.

"She's not far from here,go and ask her" I replied.

"Come on,but seriously Amanda is bad news,she can't be trusted,better warn your friend or else,I reserve my comment" Bisi ended and turned away probably to gist with another person.

Adaora was becoming a big chick,face baked with makeup and her uniform made tight just like Amanda's own and of course she was getting the attention she wanted from boys...I sighed again.

My mum had never returned home after 8:00PM but today it was already 10:00PM and she was nowhere to be found. Her phone was even switched off.

"Where could mum have gone to?"Chima wondered as he paced about,I was standing at the window checking.

My father was in his room and though he didn't show it,he was worried. Ten minutes past ten and I heard a knock on the door and it was mum at the door, looking exhausted.

"Mummy what happened?" I asked greeting her.

"I just ran into an old friend of mine" she replied,it seemed she wasn't happy seeing this old friend of hers with the look on her face.

"Which old friend?"Chima questioned

"You won't know the person"My mum replied looking at the family picture.

"Thank God you are safe" I whispered but audible enough for her to hear

School went fine as always, Adaora was still not my friend,I even caught her kissing a couple of boys in the school restroom and she didn't even flinch or show shame,she must be really living Amanda's kind of life.

Adaora's grades were even dropping rapidly,she hardly did her assignments but funny enough, Amanda was doing well,she was academically sound and all her home works were done and up to date.

"Amanda please don't do this,I didn't do anything to you,he came to me first" I hear Adaora's voice from the restroom,I wonder if I should just ignore but no,my feet were stuck to the ground.

"Oh please,you overstepped your boundaries,oh because you think you are now beautiful you can behave as you like?" She asked and a short laugh followed

"Now let me tell you,you are one piece of stupid fat shit,you are dumb and you think all those boys like you, sorry,they like cheap and desperate fat girls with thick thighs and empty brain,what made me even look at you?" Amanda told her and my heart broke for Adaora.

"Ama...." Adaora stuttered,tears stopping her.

"Please brush your teeth before calling my name,you disgust me dear. From now on you are on your own, rubbish,baby elephant, nobody loves you Adaora and nobody will,I wonder how your parents cope with you"Amanda hollered and walked out with her three minions. I hid behind a pillar so they didn't see me.

I walked into the restroom and Adaora was bent over crying, her face was between her palms as she sobbed bitterly. I felt really bad and as I stood watching her,she noticed my presence and at once she washed her face and left and I didn't stop her.

When I got home that day, Chima was with the photo album,I murmured a greeting,went to the bathroom,had my bath,ate and joined him since I had no homework to do.

"Do you know mum once worked in D-DOZIE company?" He asked and my eyes widened with surprise

"Seriously? I never knew o" I replied and then he showed me a picture of my mother in the staff uniform.

"That's awesome" I said in delight.

"What of Adaora?"He asked suddenly

"Which Adaora?"I asked feigning ignorance

"How many Adaora do you know,stop being silly and answer"

"She's fine,any problem?" I asked

"Do you have her number?"He asked almost in a whisper

"Hmm, what do you want to use it for"I questioned like a detective, though I wasn't in talking terms with Adaora,I couldn't let my brother know.

"I want to use it and cook soup, rubbish,give me the number"He answered calmly though.

"Do you like her?" I asked

"What kind of question is that,it's not your business"
He turned away and I knew the truth immediatly and then I wanted teasing him not until I heard the loud voice of my mother. My brother and I became alarmed and we both ran to my parents room.

We pushed the door open and there on the floor,my dad was curled on the floor with my mum trying to hold him well. Chima ran out to get help and I joined my mum on the floor holding my dad.
