Leaning her shoulder against the wall, Maddie watches with observing eyes at Kelly's surgical wounds just by his ribs. She couldn't deny that he was sculpted like a Greek god so that was another excuse to stare while Doctor Minola had her check-up. 

It had been a week since the incident and Kelly always told her he couldn't remember anything from the explosion which might have explained the new skip in his step. 

"Well, it looks like your surgical wound is healing pretty well." Doctor Minola concludes.

Kelly perks up, meeting Maddie's eyes. "So, I could get back on shift today?" 

"We need to keep an eye on your breathing."

"I'm breathing fine. No pain." Kelly tells her. He takes a deep inhale and exhales without a sign of discomfort. "See?"

Doctor Minola meets Maddie's eyes and jokes, "Is he always this difficult?"

Maddie scrunches her nose and humors the doctor, "Only when it's his time of the month." 

"Fine." Kelly is already putting on his shirt, his St. Florian pendant tucked underneath. "I'll sit it out this shift. Seventy-two hours from now." 

"No discomfort when you exert? No need to catch your breathe?"

"None."

"Kelly." Maddie presses and he meets her pointed look.

He meets her eyes and raises his right hand as if he were testifying in court. "I swear." 

As they walk hand in hand towards the elevator, Kelly playfully pinches her nose which resulted in his wife swatting his hand away. "See, Maddie?" He tells her, "I wasn't being difficult."

Maddie chuckles and pats his chest. "Oh, good. Do you want a gold star or something?" 

The elevator door opens with Kelly's booming laugh. He moves closer to whisper in her ear, his breath hot. "I can think of other ways you can reward me, Mrs. Severide." He suggests and smirks when her breath hitches when he leaves a kiss just by that sensitive spot by her ear. 

A wolf whistle is heard when Kelly pulls away. 

Sylvie and Gabby are dragging the gurney when they spot the married couple──with Kelly's teasing smirk and his wife's flushed face. At the sight, Gabby had a knowing smile and Sylvie was cackling. 

"I guess medical leave has it's advantages, aye?" Sylvie teases and Maddie rolls her eyes in response as she hurriedly pulls her hair over her red ears. 

"Yeah, yeah. Sue me for being a happy wife."

"Hey, a happy wife is a happy life!" Gabby jokes and adds, "I heard someone's birthday is coming up."

Kelly tenses along with Sylvie. Their eyes meet and, from behind Maddie, he's frantically shaking his head which goes unnoticed by the brunette paramedic. 

Maddie laughs. "How'd you know that?"

"Sylvie just couldn't stop talking about your──"

"Age!" Sylvie interrupts and throws her arm around Gabby's shoulder, "I can't believe you're getting so old, Mads." 

With Sylvie's little white lie, Kelly sighs in relief.

"Sylvia, twenty-eight is not that big of a deal."

The blonde wiggles her finger teasingly to her friend and retorts, "That's what a twenty-eight year old would say."
