3. Ownership

"Caroline and I were engaged. We were supposed to get married. The wedding should have been tonight, actually." Christopher scoops scrambled eggs on to his plate. Debbie does the same after he slides forward to the next dish the buffet is offering this morning.

"I broke up with her at dinner. She was just being an exceptional level asshole last night to the poor waitress." Chris explains, using the silver tongs to dish himself some sausage. He offers Debbie some. She holds her plate out thankfully. "I went to the club after that and apparently met you. I guess, I uh, I must have had the rings in my pocket and used them when they married us." Chris explains what he thinks happened last night.

"So that's why she wanted the rings back so badly. They were hers less than twelve hours ago. It makes sense. I'd want a million dollar ring back if it was stolen from me by a child." Debbie mocks Caroline's harsh words this morning.

"I am so sorry for her behavior this morning. I have already arranged with the staff to have my room key changed as well as to have your room upgraded to the one beside mine." Chris hopes this will repay her for the inconvenience of meeting Caroline this morning.

Debbie laughs quietly. "Upgrading my hotel room because I got black out drunk and we stupidly got married seems unnecessary. My friends and I are just fine sharing a- shit! My friends!"

"I can easily get them upgraded too." Christopher let's her know to not worry about them.

"No, no. I mean they are right there. I completely forgot to call them and tell them I was okay this morning. They probably think I am dead outside of a casino somewhere."

"They don't look too concerned." Christopher notices their behavior.

Both of them stare at Debbie's group of friends from across the room. The girls sit at their table in the corner, laughing and joking with each other. They did their mimosas and take turns mocking what Debbie looked like when she got drunk.

"Oh." Debbie nods sadly she expected her friends to be worried about her. She has been missing from their group since early last night.

"Come on, lets go sit." Christopher kinder grabs Debbie's plate from her hands, noticing she is about to drop it. He escorts her towards the back of the large room.

Debbie cleats her throat, snapping out of her sad daze. "Um, why don't we just sit at one of these tables? There's a ton open. I think we can just sit wherever we'd like."

"Just trust me." Christopher smiles, looking over his shoulder at Debbie.

"I mean I barely know you, but okay I guess. Just please don't kill me. I clearly have plenty of people who are concerned for me. They are searching for me as we speak!" Debbie jokes about her situation as a woman opens a door for him.

"I'm holding two plates of eggs, I wouldn't be able to kill you with these." He shrugs and begins climbing the stairs. Debbie looks around before following him up. "Plus, I could have easily killed you after you blacked out last night but I apparently married you instead. So murder is kind of off the table already. Cops always suspect the husband first."

"Comforting." Debbie replies, looking around at all of the artwork on the walls of the stairway.

At the top of the stairs sits a private room, overlooking the Vegas strip below. Debbie is taken back by the beauty of view beneath them.

Christopher sets the two plates down on the table by the windows and pulls a chair out for Debbie to sit down. "Please, sit." He smiles, finally catching her eye.

"Oh, oh wow Christopher. This is beautiful. Thank you." Debbie sits down. Christopher pushes her chair in and sits across from her at the table. "This place is beautiful. Did you rent this place for Caroline?" She asks him.

"No I didn't rent it for Caroline." He laughs. "No, I own this building."
