This is a soulmate AU. When you turn 18 your soulmate's name appears on your wrist. Not everyone gets theirs right away. This takes place two months after Varian's 18th birthday.

It was the middle of the night, Varian and the others were roasting marshmallows over a fire. There was a comfortable silence among them. Yong decided to break the silence. "What's a soulmate?"

"A soulmate is the person you're meant to be with. It's like they were made for you." Nuru answered. "So what's up with the name's on people's wrists that I hear everyone talk about?" He asked. "Whenever someone turns eighteen their soulmate's name appears on their wrist." "Oh, that's why my brother has been planning his 18th birthday since like forever." Everyone laughed at that.

"Wait that means I have to wait six years until I know who my soulmate is," Yong said. "It's sure won't feel like six years," Varian said. "Nuru, who's your soulmate?" Yong asked. Nuru chuckled. "I'm sixteen I won't find out for another two years." Yong looked confused, "Sixteen? I thought you were eighteen." 

"What about you Varian?" He asked. "Well, I turned eighteen two months ago and I still don't know who my soulmate it is yet," Varian responded. Yong turned to Hugo, he opened his mouth to speak but Hugo beat him to it. "Before you ask, I'm 19." "Oh, so you know who your soulmate is," Yong said. He was hoping Hugo could give him more information about this whole soulmate thing.    

"Not exactly. I never really paid attention to it. I always wear long sleeves so I don't see the name. So I don't know who they are." Hugo said. "Why wouldn't you want to know who your soulmate is?" Nuru asked. "I don't really like the whole only one person is meant for your thing  and I don't want to spend the rest of my life trying to find them." He answered. 

____*The next day*____

Varian's P.O.V

I woke up with a weird feeling like something was different. I noticed something black on my wrist. I immediately knew what it was, I rolled my sleeve up to fully see the name. I read the name and it's-What?! How could they be my soulmate! Nope, it's fake it has to be. 

I tried washing it off, but it wasn't coming out. That means it's real! No, this can't be happening! "Goggles, what are you doing?" I saw Hugo starting to get out of bed. "It's dirty," I said. I could tell that Hugo was half asleep and he looked so cute when he's drowsing off. Wait did I just call him cute?!

"You got it didn't you?" He asked. I hid my hands behind my back. "You got your soulmate's name." I nodded my head. "The day after we were talking about it. How ironic."

I was with Nuru and Yong. I kept pulling down my sleeve so no one would see the name. "Did you get it?" Nuru and Yong asked. "What?" I stalled. I really didn't want to answer that question. "Did you get your soulmate's name?" Yong asked. I shook my head. "No. Not yet." "You'll get it soon," Nuru said.

Hugo came over and stood next to me. "Can I talk to you?" He asked. Did he know? What if he saw? I started pulling my sleeve down more than I already was. "I need to do something really fast." I walked away before he could say anything.

Hugo's P.O.V

"That was weird," Nuru said. "He's been acting weird since he got his soulmate's name," I said. "Wait. Varian told us that he didn't get one yet," Yong said shocked. "Well, he told me he got it." "Maybe it's because it's someone he knows," Yong suggested. "That could be it." They shrugged it off and walked away. 

Why did he tell me and not the others? Now that I think about it he's been acting weird whenever I'm around. Wait-no it couldn't be, right?

Third-person P.O.V

Varian went into the forest to get some time alone. He sat down with his back against a tree. He rolled his sleeve up and read the name. "Out of all people." He said. He heard rustling in the bushes. He stood up and grabbed a chem ball. Hugo came out, "There you are. I was looking for you." Varian relaxed and put the chem ball back. "Don't scare me like that. Why were you looking for me?"

"As I said earlier I need to talk to you." Hugo stepped forward. "About what exac-" He was about to say until Hugo grabbed his arm revealing the name. "I knew it," He said. Varian had a nervous smile. Hugo looked at Varian's wrist, in black writing it said, Hugo. Hugo rolled up his sleeve to reveal the name on his wrist. Varian read it, in black writing, it said, Varian. 

"I know you don't like the whole soulmate thing but I-" Varian was cut off by a pair of lips. Varian hesitantly kissed back. He wrapped his arms around Hugo's neck. Hugo brushed his hands through Varian's hair. 

Hugo pulled away. "I think I can make an exception for you," He said with a smirk. "We should start heading back," Varian said. He started walking out of the forest. Hugo caught up to him and held his hand. "Well, if you don't want anymore alone time together that's fine." He chuckled. They both walked out of the forest hand in hand.
