I swore I knew the melody that I heard you singing
Varian, Hugo, Nuru, and Yong were standing in front of the entrance of the Eternal Library. They were all so excited to get the answers they were looking for. Varian would figure out what his mom was working on and what happened to her. Yong would learn more about fireworks so he can perfect them. Nuru would figure out why the meteor showers, that are destroying her kingdom, are there in the first place and how to stop them.
Varian was about to open the door until he heard an evil laugh. He turned around to find Donella and her minion Cyrus standing there. "What are you doing here?" Varian asked in a serious tone. "To get what I came for," She continued, "Hugo go get what I need." Nuru stood in front of the group. "What makes you think he'll listen to you."
Donella chuckled. "Well, maybe because he has been following my orders this whole time." Everyone looked confused except for Hugo, he had guilt written all over his face. "You poor oblivious kids. I'm surprised you didn't figure it out sooner. Hugo has been working for me all this time. He just pretended to be your friend so he can get me to the library."
"No! You're lying!" Yong yelled. He didn't want to believe it, none of them did. "She's telling the truth," Hugo finally spoke up. He walked over to Donella and stood next to her. They stood there in disbelief. "How could you!" Varian yelled. After everything that happened with Rapunzel Varian had major trust issues. It took him so long to fully trust Hugo, and now...this.
"I risked my life to save you, you risked your life for us!" He stood in front of the group. Hugo stepped forward to try to talk to him. "Varian...I..." "I trusted you!" Tears started welling up in Varian's eyes. After everything, every time they risked their lives for each other, every time they laughed together. After he thought that he lo- nope, he had to push those feelings aside.
"Varian, I didn't want to! Donella told me to, but the more time I spent with you the more I didn't want to do it. The more time I spent with you the more I realized that I lo-" Varian cut him off. "But you did it anyway. You kept lying to us instead of telling us the truth!" Hugo just stared at the floor, he didn't have anything else to say.
Varian ran to the library entrance and locked himself inside. When the door was shut his head was against the door and he was on his knees crying. He could hear Hugo banging on the door, trying to get him to come out.
On the other side of the door, Hugo was trying to pick the lock but it was no use. He banged his fist on the door. "Varian please let me in. Please come out." Hugo's vision started getting blurry. "Come on Hugo that boy can't mean that much to you," Donella said. "That boy's name is Varian and yes he means a lot to me. I should have just told him about everything." He mumbled the last part.
Varian was walking around the library trying to find something that could help Nuru or Yong, but he couldn't get Hugo and the recent events off his mind. He sighed. "I should have seen it coming, I should have known he would do something like this. I was just too blinded by some other feeling."
It funny when you find yourself looking from the outside I'm standing here but all I want Is to be over there Why did I let myself believe miracles could happen? 'Cause now I have to pretend That I don't really care
I thought you were my fairy tale A dream when I'm not sleeping A wish upon a star that's coming true But everybody else could tell that I confused my feelings with the truth When there was me and you
I swore I knew the melody that I heard you singing and when you smiled you made me feel like I could sing along But then you went and changed the words Now my heart is empty I'm only left with used-to-be's and once upon a song
Now I know you're not a fairy tale and dreams were meant for sleeping And wishes on a star just don't come true 'Cause now even I can tell that I confused my feelings with the truth because I liked the view When there was me and you
I can't believe that I could be so blind It's like you were floating while I was falling and I didn't mind 'Cause I liked the view I thought you felt it too When there was me and you
Varian leaned back on the door and slid down. He sat there crying for what felt like hours and hours. "'Cause I liked the view when there was me and you." He said in between sobs.
