(Spotlight shines center stage)

Varian narrating: You've all heard the story: A princess with long magical golden hair, rescued from her tower by a swashbuckling thief. Perhaps you heard of their adventures, defeating an ancient demon named Zhan Tiri, which is where you might know me. A kid living in Old Corona, causing trouble unintentionally with his inventions, who fell down a dark path and took over Corona... once or twice. Helped the Saporians take over the second time. Then I saw my errors and tried to right the wrongs I made by helping Rapunzel and the gang fight Cassandra and then Zhan Tiri. I was given the title of Royal Alchemist, a title that I far from deserve, but I couldn't turn down Rapunzel's offer.

(Varian continues) I had assumed that was the end of my adventures. It had certainly been a wild ride and it was nice to settle down, but... something didn't feel quite right. Not yet. Little did I know that my story had so much more to tell, but... actually, why don't we just show you what happened instead? (Steps off the stage as the lights go dark)

(Lights slowly light up and shine on the table where maids are)

Maids: It's today, it has arrived

Maid 1: Quick! Go get the silver!

Maid 2: Oh, I forgot the archives

Maid 3: The flowers will wither!

Maid 2: Oh, look, it's the princess!

Rapunzel: It's today, it has arrived
It has to be perfect
He deserves all we can give
I Hope he doesn't forget
This days, is long overdue
To show we appreciate
All that he did for us all
It has to be worth the wait

Eugene: It's today, I have arrived
Blondie, I brought the gift!
And it is all wrapped blue
Without further ado

Raps and Eugene: For it is long overdue
To show we appreciate

Varian: It's today, it has arrived!
They insisted a party
For me! But I might be late!
I'm just turning eighteen-
Hope she didn't over do it
No, I know she certainly did
Yet I let myself forget
Hope I don't keep them waiting

Rapunzel: He should be here any minute! Is everyone here?

Eugene: Relax, everything is going to be fine-

Lance: Well... we do have a bad history with birthdays.

Rapunzel: But, today is going to be different! The first best day of my life was my eighteenth birthday, and I want Varian to have a day as equally special!

Eugene: Not sure you can rival first day out of a tower meeting civilization... But I'm sure it'll be great!

(everyone freezes and the lights dim)

(Varian pauses before going to the table where everyone is sitting and the spotlight shines on him. The music slows and changes for the bridge)

Varian: I want to go in, but I can't
Memories I wish to forget flood in
I was a villain, most hated me
I don't deserve to be their friend

(lights come on the table as he walks to it)

Everyone: Surprise!

Varian: All of this is for me? It's too much!

Eugene: No, it's just right!

Rapunzel: Happy Birthday, Varian!

Everyone: Your birthday, it has arrived
It's time to celebrate
This day is about you
And how far you have come

Raps and Eugene: For today, its long overdue
To prove we appreciate
All the great things that you do
And we hope it's worth the wait

*music ends*

Rapunzel: We got you a present!

Varian: Guys you really shouldn't-

Eugene: Just open it! You'll like it, I prom- (Rapunzel elbows him)-er well, you get the gist.

(Varian opens the gift and holds up two orange bandannas)

Rapunzel: So you and Ruddiger can match and we remembered that you prefer simple things, so we thought you might like it.

Varian: They're great! Thank you!

Eugene: See! I knew you'd like it!

Varian: I never said I wouldn't.

Lance: That is true, Eugene.

Rapunzel: Guys.

Eugene: Right, sorry.

Varian: Where's Dad?

Rapunzel: I don't know. He said he was going to be a little late because of a surprise. (Quirin enters stage) Speaking of which, he's here!

Quirin: Happy birthday, son. (Hands Varian a present)

Varian: Thanks-(opens it) Uh... the Trials of the Seven Kingdoms by Ulla-this was mom's?

Quirin: She would have wanted you to see it, but I waited until you were eighteen because I know you.

Varian: (opens book) What are the trials?

Quirin: Your mother and her lab partner pursued finding something called the Eternal Library. Unfortunately, she never returned from her travels and I only have the journal because her partner dropped it off.

Varian: That's how mother died? She was going after the Eternal Library?

(Varian gets up and walks to the other side of the stage, looking at the book)

(Everyone else exits the stage)

Varian: Slowly, reality sinks in
I'm not sure where to begin
Mom, you left behind a trail
Should I follow in your steps?

Varian: I have to know more! I... want to know the places my mother went to...

Quirin: I figured you'd say that, which is why I waited so long to give it to you.

Varian: You... you don't mind?

Quirin: (sets hand on Varian's shoulder) I would always rather you stay with me where it's safe, but I would never want to hold you back, son. This is your decision. When and where you go is up to you, it's your life, so I encourage you to choose your own path and go where your heart tells you.

Varian: But... what about everything I have here?-

Quirin: And it will be here waiting for you when you return. Your friends will still care even if you go. I'm sure they understand more than you think. If I recall, a certain princess had to spread her wings herself?

Varian: You're right... I guess I better start working on getting ready?

Quirin: You want to go now?

Varian: Yes... if that's alright? Tomorrow?

Quirin: Yes, that's fine.

(The two exit the stage)
