Chapter 22 - Studying

Just a note that there is probably 3-4 chapters left. I don't want to rush to the end but I want to end this book, if that makes sense to anyone. I have a lot of other things to work on and I am also going to be proof reading every completed book and finally making corrections, because I never seem to do that. I can confirm a fourth book in the series called 'The Perfect Year?' so look forward to that, starting sometime next week or later this week.

(Ash)

I knocked on the door and had to wait for a moment. My hand was outstretched around a stack of science textbooks for studying. Serena opened the door and greeted me with her heartwarming smile.

"Hey Ash, you're the last one here you know" She said as I walked in and shut the door. I looked around to the whole gang, who were already diving into their textbooks and eating randonky assorted snacks made by Serena.

"I know. I was just doing a few chores before my Mom came home" I sat down beside Serena and dumped the textbooks onto the table.

"Isn't this nice, all of us together, studying?" I smiled at everyone, who were too into studying to even acknowledge me. Serena sighed and put a textbook in my face.

"The exam is next month and after the incident last month, no one wants to fail. So, study"

I took the textbook and sighed out of boredom. I thought having a group study would be fun. Someone was bound to break their concentration at some point, so I decided to study until then.

We all sat in what I would could complete silence for 30 minutes, before Gary hopped onto his feet.

"Ahh" He said stretching "I need some fresh air" He walked outside into the back garden. Bingo.

"Hey, wait up" I shouted, literally rushing off.

I stepped outside through the patio doors and sat on the bench beside Gary.

"Ash" He instantly spoke to me, looking up at the darkening sky "Do you think we have a shot at this exam?"

"Sure, we have been doing hardcore studying for the past month. I know the first two units pretty much off by heart. I am worried about our other exams. We haven't even tried to study for them. If we don't pass we will make it harder for ourselves in the future. Our finals are next year so making a good impression is vital"

"Makes sense" Gary nodded and stood up "Let me call my Mom, we can do some math"

"Good, I suck at math" I laughed and stayed in my seat

Gary finished on the phone and we headed inside.

"Me and Ash are done with science" Gary put it plainly, sitting back down.

"Huh?" Was all May could reply. Everyone looked confused.

"We haver learnt enough to get a B in this exam and we need to study our other subjects. I got my Mom to get some math books in"

Cilan and Iris were as ignorant as ever when they studied. They was top of our classes so they would probably go into the exams knowing they have done good.

"Sounds good, to be fair" Misty agreed "I need help with math anyway. Hey Iri-"

"No" Iris didn't even look up or move, she continued to work.

"Oh, erm.. Ci"

"No" Cilan was pretty much the same.

"Don't worry, we can help each other" Dawn energetically smiled at Misty.

"Right" Misty sounded determined.

There was a knock on the door and Gary casually stepped over to the door. He swung it open "Hey Mom"

"Here are those books sweetie. Don't forget to be home before 8"

"Mom!" Gary moaned.

Kenny, Drew and Calem began to laugh.

"Is it bedtime at 8 for baby Gary?" Kenny teased.

"No it is not. I have my dinner at eight" Gary put the books on the table and took one, sitting back down.

"I thought babies had their milk a little earlier" Calem said into his book.

"I am not a baby!" Gary moaned in a childish voice.

"Sure" Drew commented with a grin "And I am a unicorn with four wings and ten eyes"

The others broke into laughter. I was sure Cilan chuckled a little too.

"Ok guys, that's enough" I calmed everyone down.

"Lets try and do some math" Gary opened up the large textbook.

"Have you guys noticed how stupid you look?" Serena looked at us in turn. I shook my head.

"Not at all"

"Well, you are acting a little immature" Dawn added.

"Oh, grow up" Gary retorted ironically "People act immature from time to time. Even you"

"Yeah, but, we are here to study not mess around" May put her textbook down.

"Well leave us alone and study then" Kenny laughed. Dawn frowned.

"No. If we want to study we need peace. So do what you came here to do, please"

Calem sighed "You all need to stop arguing for no reason and help each other out. No one is passing anything with this attitude"

Everyone mumbled and nodded in agreement.

-----

It was getting late, so everyone decided to go. Soon, it was just me and Serena.

"This year has been one strange rollercoaster, huh?" She asked as she collapsed onto the sofa next to me. She put her feet up and lied on her side, resting her head on my legs.

"You can say that again. I am waiting for the next loop" I moved Serena's hair behind her ear and she looked up at me.

"You know it's hard to describe how much I love you, Ash?" She unexpectedly said.

"Heh, why not try and write your english essay on it? That should be long enough" We shared a smile and Serena turned on her side again.

"Funny" Was all she could say "Well, you better get going Ash, before your Mom worries"

I got up after Serena "I suppose so. I'll see you tomorrow morning, early"

Serena nodded "Ok"

She put her arms around me and I brought her in for a hug. She looked up at me and got onto her tiptoes, reaching up. I looked down and met her lips, kissing them gently.

"I love you too, Serena. See ya"

"Bye, Ash!" She waved as I headed down the path and to my house.
