The first week of school was rough. I had never thought I could actually be just friends with Ash. It was a little awkward to be around him. I said I was going to use this break to see new people, but I don't want it to be so soon. I will give it another week or two.

I looked out of the window and into the night sky. The moon was especially bright and cast a light over the dark clouds that moved across the sky. Looks like it will rain. I looked at the time. 1am, I should sleep. My phone vibrated on my bedside table and I picked it up.

It was Ash.

'You still awake?'

'Yeah, what are you doing awake?' I looked at my screen for a reply.

'Just over thinking the whole situation. Just wanted to talk to someone'

I stared at my phone for a moment, scanning his message again and again. It was like we had some sort of special understanding. He guessed I was doing the same as him at this time.

'Remember our talk and don't over think it. We know this is the best thing we can do, even after the summer we had. Our friends were right.'

'I guess you're right too, Serena. Thanks :)'

I smiled at his reply.

'Goodnight, Ash'

I clutched my phone to my chest and looked outside again. Time to hit the sack.

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping away in the trees. It was a beautiful sound and was a perfect start to a new day. Guess I should get ready and head straight to school.

I got to school on time and as the bell went I remembered something.

"I'll catch up with you guys" I turned and headed to my locker. Opening it up, I got my homework and held it in my left hand. I heard footsteps behind me so I turned around, curious.

"People say you're single now" I looked up, rather surprised. This guy was Kevin, one of the most popular boys in school and he was interested.... in me?

"So?" I asked with a blank expression.

"So, I was wondering if I could take you out some time. Just the two of us" He calmly put his hand on the locker and leaned on it.

"I am not free this week" I reached into my bag, bringing out my notepad. I scribbled my phone number on it and ripped the page off "But, here is my number. give me a call" I gave him a smile and I wasn't sure if it was real or fake myself.

"Great. See you then" He placed his hands in his pockets and walked off, which reminded me that I needed to go to class. I rushed off towards math.

"You're late, Serena" Our teacher, Mr. Oak looked a little angry and I could hear it in his voice.

"Sorry, I forgot something in my locker, so I went to get it" I gulped a little nervously and sat down.

"That is not good enough. I expect you here at lunch, to make up for it"

I nodded, embarrassed by the attention I was getting. I sat down in my usual seat. Great. This was pretty much a detention, but I would be doing extra maths work. I cupped my hand under my chin, showing my annoyance.

Lunch came quickky and I sat down in the cafeteria, forgetting about the morning. I was in the middle of eating when I heard a small cough behind me. I turned around and was shocked to see Mr. Oak stood over me.

"Erm.. sir?" I asked, wondering what he was doing.

"I think you forgot our little meeting, Serena" He folded his arms and raised his eyebrows. I mentally facepalmed myself so hard that I think my hand went through my face.

"Oh, erm.." I didn't know what to say, so I nervously stood up.

"Sit down and enjoy your lunch" He handed me a slip "I'll see you after school instead" As he walked off I planted my head onto the table and groaned.

"Great, now I have a detention" I couldn't be bothered with the rest of school so I put no effort into the rest of the day. The end of the school day came around, so I headed to the detention hall. There wasn't many people there, but I noticed Kevin. He gave me a smile and waved discreetly. I smiled and raised my hand, before sitting down.

I spent the whole hour staring out of the window, in complete silence. As soon as we was dismissed, i rushed out of the building and straight home.

My Mom was not happy when she came home from work.

"Serena, when a teacher tells you to do something, you do it" She put her hands on her hips and stared at me seriously.

"I forgot... it wont happen again Mom" I smiled reassuringly.

"No, it better not happen again" She turned to the kitchen and started on dinner. I headed upstairs with a large headache.

People get on my nerves.
