Chapter 10 - A familiar face (Ash)
When I woke up, I could tell it was just another monday. The last monday before Christmas break, I remembered excitedly.
After slowly forcing myself out of bed, I went into the bathroom. I stared in the mirror for a moment as my eyes adjusted themselves to being opened. I ran a hand through my hair. Note to self, take a shower. I lazily walked down the stairs with heavy feet. My mom was in the kitchen when I walked in.
"You're up early for a change" She kept her eyes on the eggs and didn't turn.
"Why, uh- what time is it?" I wondered, scanning my eyes to the clock "7am!" I groaned. It was too early.
"Being ready a little early doesn't hurt, so have these" She placed my plate infront of me "and maybe I will drive you myself"
I smiled. Driving with mom was better than walking to the bus stop. The only fact I regarded is that it was less effort.
"Ok, mom" I said, finishing my eggs in less than a minute and dashing upstairs. I jumped into the shower and got dressed for school. I pulled my gloves on and tipped my cap down a touch.
I went back down the stairs and outside to my moms car, just as Serena walked by.
"Hey, Serena! Want a ride to school?" I gestured to my moms car.
"No thanks, I need to see Dawn" She turned around and began walking off again. She seemed in a rush and a little nervous.
"Ok, Ash lets get going" My mom walked around to the drivers seat and got in. I went into the passenger side and sat down, relaxing in the comfy leather seat. My mom turned on some sort of pop CD and I think my ears melted. Was it too late to change my mind? I askex myself as we set off down the road.
Once I got into school and met up with Gary, Misty and Iris, who had been there for five minutes, they brought me in on some gossip.
"Hey, Ash. You met the new kid in our grade yet?" Gary put his foot up against the wall and leaned back.
I shook my head "I just got here"
"His dad is the new teacher here" Misty said. They was acting like it was a big deal.
"So? Some new kid, big deal" I said and Iris looked like I was the only smart person.
"Finally, someone who isn't crazy on finding every little detail on a new kid" Iris looked like she was fed up, after five minutes.
"Look there he is!" Gary almost shouted, as someone I knew too well walked by. My old rival in Pallet Town.
"Someone pinch me and tell me I am dreaming. I know that kid" I said. I didn't want more of him. He caused a lot of trouble for me and used his dad to get around it and get me detentions.
I explained everything about Josh, the new kid and they all seemed extra interested.
"Also, he usually acts like he likes the same things as me, making everything a challenge" I thought about Serena for a moment "He will try and get me into trouble often and will most likely, 'like' Serena"
He was the person I hated most in the world. He will be shocked when he see's how much I have changed.
Everyone else arrived and Gary was 'new kid this' and 'new kid that'
"We can't prank him, Gary" I said as he got ready to go over.
He looked at me like I was the idiot. "Why?"
"Like I said, his dad is a teacher. If anything happens to him, you enjoy a detention" I looked at Serena, who was stood next to me, her arms around my arm. I smiled and she smiled back at me.
"Whatever" Gary moaned and closed his bag just as Josh walked up to us.
"Well if it isn't Ash Ketchum" He said. I turned to see him with a big grin on his face, his arms folded "My oh my haven't you changed. Good to see you"
"Yeah I am just as thrilled" I said with absolute sarcasm.
"And who is this fine young lady" Josh asked, as he moved round to Serena.
Serena giggled lightly "I am Serena" she smiled and I drew her in close to me.
"Seems like a match made in heaven" He smiled and it was his fake smile I knew too well.
"Anyway, guess I'll see you in any of the classes" Josh waved goodbye and everyone was happy.
"He seems nice"
"I like him"
They was all saying. I stood in silence for a moment and then decided to break it "Don't let him deceive you, he isn't as nice as you think" I folded my arms, one hundred percent serious.
"Maybe he has changed Ash, it has been 2 years" Cilan said and everyone agreed. I wasn't about to be baited in so I stood my ground.
"Say whatever you want, I have known him since I was a little kid, I knoe what he is like" I decided to head to lesson after this and Serena followed.
"Is he as much trouble as you say?" She asked as we walked along.
"He will be now he knows we are dating. He gets easily jealous if I have a girlfriend. Whatever happens though, don't listen to him" I was trying to sound as serious as possible. It was like Serena was the only one that understood as she nodded.
"Well, there goes even more time I could spend with you" I continued "Time for a few detentions this year" I sighed and headed to math. This was going to be one hell of a year.
