Chapter 4 - Sports

(Serena)

Finally...the weekend. Even though we all decided to play soccer and baseball this weekend, I was only looking forward to it because it was the first weekend back seeing Ash. I was glad to be back after a long holiday and I felt warm around Ash. It was as if our relationship had matured over the summer break, even though we saw each other once or twice in that time.

"Serena! Hello?" Dawn clicked her finger in my face. I blinked twice and looked at Dawn, who was smiling really strangely. Like a half grin, half smile.

"Huh? What?" I asked her, trying to hide the obvious fact I was daydreaming.

"What you thinking about?" She tilted her head a little and looked serious now. Gossip mode had been activated.

"Oh, just..abou-erm..Ash" I kind of blushed as I spoke.

"You make it sound like I think it's a bad thing" Dawn laughed, getting up from the picnic blanket we was on. She brushed down her skirt and looked around "I wonder where the others are.."

"Yeah, same here" I looked to the entrance of the park. Everyone was a little late than we had planned. I was also glad the subject had changed.

"Lets move under the tree" Dawn suggested "There is a perfect view of the pitch and it is shaded"

"Great idea" I agreed. We folded up the blanket and moved over to the tree. I had to lay it down at an angle to make sure the tree didn't touch it. Dawn was kind of OCD with things like this.

"Perfect" She smiled. I sighed of relief and sat back down.

After about five minutes I heard a ball get kicked into the air. It flew over our heads and bounced onto the pitch. I turned to see Ash regaining his balance after kicking the ball. Everyone else was behind him, in some sort of kit.

"Heh. Sorry we're late" He laughed nervously, scratching his head.

"Nevermind that, you nearly took off our heads!" Dawn pouted, folding his arms.

"Sorry.." Ash sweatdropped and sat down "You guys not playing today?"

"ME? Play soccer?! Ha!" Dawn shook her head, I guess she was adamant.

"If I play, that makes 10 of us, right?" I asked Ash, who nodded. I winked and gave him a big smile "Guess it's settled then!"

Ash gave me a kiss on the cheek and took my hand "Lets go then!" He rushed me onto my feet and literally dragged me across the field. We stopped by the others and he finally let go. They let me catch my breath before we started playing. It was a long hard game. I didn't really like soccer, but Ash did so I played for him in order to make the teams fair. Everyone had agreed to do this so I didn't want to let them down.

"You're going down, Calem!" Drew mocked at one point. After all, they done this to see which sport was better.

"That's big talk coming from a baseball player" Calem laughed as he skipped past Drew with the ball at his feet and scored. It was kind of disappointing because I was on Drew's team with Ash.

"Calem is good, isn't he?" I asked Ash, who only nodded. He was always in the zone when playing any sport, so I focused too. The game continued for a little longer, until Dawn called time.

"Who won?" Calem asked us all. Everyone looked around confused.

"It isn't important who won" Misty said "We all had abit of fun right?"

Drew and Calem were in her face in an instant "It is important for this challenge!" They both exclaimed.

"I'll show you a challenge with my right hook!" Misty threatened. Drew and Calem backed off with fear in their eyes.

"Misty sure is one tough cookie. She is more manly than Gary" Ash laughed as he grabbed my hand unexpectedly. He still made me blush whenever he grabbed it, I don't know why.

"EXCUSE ME?!" Gary and Misty both moved over to Ash, who nearly fell over from their shouting.

"Oh, uh..I mean, sorry?" Ash laughed weakly. Misty pouted and walked away, whereas Gary twisted Ash's ear like a kid.

"You better be, Ketchum" Gary smirked and let of Ash's ear.

"OW!" Ash complained "That hurt" He rubbed his now red ear in an attempt to somehow ease the pain.

"Why don't you get your girlfriend to kiss it better?" Gary looked at me and he was still smirking like an idiot.

"Maybe I will" Ash was being a little stubborn as he turned his head to me. I decided to just go with it and we kissed for a quick second. It was a second that felt like an hour. I wanted it to last forever, because Ash was that kind of guy.

"Feel better?" I asked with a little smile, my cheeks red.

Ash nodded, a stupid grin forming on his face "Uh-huh" He then smiled like an idiot, making Gary feel frustrated for some odd reason.

"Hmmph. Just wait till we play baseball" Gary folded his arms and followed in the direction of the others. I rested my head on Ash's shoulder just as the wind picked up. Everything felt perfect at that moment. So perfect, that I fell asleep for half an hour. I slowly opened my eyes to find that the breeze had settled. I looked up at Ash, he had been in the same position for the whole 30 minutes, waiting for me to wake up.

"Did you have a nice nap?" He looked up at the sky. We had spent quite a few hours outside now and the sun was setting.

"I did. You could've woke me you know" I told Ash. He shook his head and smiled his warm smile.

"You look so peaceful when you sleep, like a princess. I didn't want to wake you" I felt my cheeks beginning to go red again.

"Am I your sleeping beauty?" I teased, adding a wink.

"Yup" Was all Ash replied. He led down and looked up at the sunset and the clouds, letting out a huge sigh "The sky sure is beautiful" He spoke quietly.

"It is" I led down next to him, putting my arm around his chest "Where did the others go?" I wondered. No one else was here anymore.

"They all left about five minutes after you went to sleep" Ash explained "A few got texts, telling them to come home and I told Cilan, Kenny and Gary to go soon afterwards"

"I guess we should get going too, Ash" I suggested "It is getting a little late. You can come eat at mine if you want"

"Sounds like a great idea" Ash patted his stomach "I am starving!"

I got up, laughing "Oh Ash. I can see your diet hasn't changed" I folded up the blanket and tucked it under my arm. I extended my other arm and grabbed Ash's hand. We walked back to my house to go eat.

"Oh, Ash, how nice to see you" My Mom walked into the living room as we came in "Dinner will be ready in a moment. There is enough for us all"

"Thanks Mom!" I shouted as she left for the kitchen once more.

"Grace has been doing a lot of decorating lately, huh?" Ash looked around and made me realize he hadn't been in here for a long time. It kind of made me feel a little sad, but a smile crept over my face.

"Yep. She wanted to update the furniture and stuff a little bit, make everything more modern" I explained. There was still old memento's from our old homes and relatives, but everything else was brand new. We even finally got a massive 40 inch television, which was awesome. My Mom managed to get it at an auction for things that were low in stock, kind of lucky I guess. We ate dinner and then Ash decided to go home. I guessed he was aching from the soccer and needed an early night in order to play baseball.

"Got any plans tomorrow?" My Mom asked as I came back in after walking down the road with Ash.

"Erm, yeah. Baseball" I said, rolling my eyes. It was the same as soccer in the sense that I didn't like it, but I decided to play anyway. I was glad to figure out that because there was only ten of us, it wouldn't be a competitive game, just a bit of fun. Drew and Calem had to keep it light for tomorrow, they was creating some sort of rivalry over this whole sports thing, but we had to roll with it for now and see how it plays out.

"Baseball?" My Mom raised one eyebrow "Don't push yourself too hard, Serena" She advised me. I nodded, bringing her a reassured smile.

"I won't Mom" I turned to go upstairs and made my way to my room "I am going to go catch some sleep for tomorrow, so goodnight"

"Night, darling!" She called up as I close my door. I instantly collapsed on my bed and I let myself relax for a few minutes, before suddenly falling asleep before I could even change.

(Ash)

Sunday! Baseball! Finally, a sport worth getting excited over. Baseball beats soccer everyday, but Calem is just too stubborn to admit it. Still, I don't know why him and Drew couldn't just agree that all sports are good. I jumped out of bed and realized that my legs were still a little sore from overdoing soccer. I slowly made my way down the stairs, to find my Mom making pancakes.

"I thought you was working?" I asked her as I awkwardly sat down in an attempt to avoid any aching pains.

"I got the day off. They are renovating the bakery into a cafe, so my job is changing a little" She moved over to the coffee machine and poured two fresh cups. She placed one along with the pancakes in front of me, then slid into the chair opposite.

"How so?" I asked with an already full mouth.

"Well, before I was just doing the cake orders, birthdays and things. But now, I am making all kinds of things like the bread and loads of deserts. I can finally test out my culinary art" She seemed excited, so I smiled, although I wasn't interested.

"Awesome!" I fist pumped with excitement "So now can I have a raise on my allowance?"

"I am only getting a little extra pay young man" My Mom laughed, shaking her head "I swear you'll drive me to an early grave"

I placed my plate into the sink, followed by the coffee cup "Don't say that Mom, you might jinx yourself" I waved my hand as I headed for a shower.

"Do what to myself?" I heard my Mom murmur as I went up the stairs.

The shower was nice and relaxing and really woke me up. I got into the same kit as the previous day and headed to Serena's house a little late.

"Late as usual" Serena sighed as soon as she opened the door.

"I am sorry for being..." I checked my phone "Five minutes late"

"Apology accepted!" She smiled and grabbed my hand, almost dragging me out of her front garden.

Her Mom appeared at the front door "Have fun!" She shouted as we walked down the street.

We ran onto the baseball pitch and found ourselves watching another group of people from the school a town over playing. The others where over by the benches, so we walked over, a little confused.

"What are a bunch of idiots from the Lumiose High School doing here?" I asked the others. They all shrugged, but Gary and Calem looked pissed.

"We came early to make sure we got the pitch, but they kicked us off as there was only us two here" Calem even sounded pissed. Bad things could happen here.

"I am so pissed off!" Drew threw himself onto his feet "We was here to play baseball, not watch a bunch of amateurs!

"Lets calm down" I grabbed Drew and set him back down into a sitting position on the bench.

"Ash is right" Iris agreed "We can wait till their done"

"Yeah" May added "I am sure they will be done soon"

"I concur" Cilan nodded a little "Who in their right mind would play baseball for a whole day?"

Two hours later, the other group seemed to be mocking us a little bit after waiting for so long.

"It makes me feel like they are doing it on purpose" Drew was now bored of sitting around chatting "I am going to ask if we can play" He got up and walked off, his left hand clenched in a fist.

Calem threw himself up violently "Me too"

Gary seemed to have lost his patience too "I am coming" He said, following.

"Great..." I sighed, standing up from the bench. I wasn't going to leave Drew hanging.

Drew was talking to the batter as I walked over. I didn't hear anything but the batter seemed to look threateningly at Drew. I tried to read his lips but I could pick up any words. Everyone turned around and headed back towards me.

"They are going to be sorry" Drew looked ready to murder someone "I told him ten minutes.. He better stick to it"

I looked over at the batter and suddenly realized he had the ball in his hand. He threw it up in the air and positioned himself so he was aiming at us.

"What the hell?!" I shouted. Who would try and hurt someone with a baseball? "Duck down!" I warned the others. Most of them turned and fell back as the batter swung his bat at the ball with a large amount of force. It span at an incredible speed at me. I didn't duck, but instead faced it head on. I threw my hands out and took the force of the ball into my palms, catching the ball. There was a stinging pain shooting up my arms and a sudden crack as a few of my fingers on my left hand bent back from the force. I yelled out in pain, instantly realizing I had broken a few fingers. I dropped onto the floor, holding my hand. It hurt like hell. I looked up at the others, who each had fire in their eyes, even Cilan.

Then, a brawl ensued...

------------

Well. I wrote quite a lot this time around for once, so I am quite proud :P
Also, I say it is a more Ash based story and I found it easier doing Serena's perspective haha.

Hope you enjoyed this chapter and make sure your day is full of happiness, look forwards with determination!
