(Ash)
"Come on Ash you can do it!" Gary shouted from the sidelines. I took a deep breath and looked over to the goalkeeper standing between the posts.
"If you score this, you can all go in early Ketchum" My gym teacher said. He was the one in the goal, coincidently. I concentrated and where I should kick the ball, blocking out the cheers of encouragement from the others.
Taking three steps back, I looked over at the right corner. My teacher caught my gaze and seemed ready to go, so I took a big step forward. As I kicked the ball, the gym teacher followed my gaze and went to the right side, but I struck the ball so it went into the left corner. Everyone charged at me like it was a cup final, being glad we could go five minutes early to lunch.
"Ok, guys" Our teacher spoke casually for once, a little grin on his face "Class dismissed" The words we all wanted to hear had been spoke, so we all sprinted away.
After getting changed, we headed to the cafeteria. Serena was already sat down, with a textbook in her face. I ignored the counter and slid into a seat next to her. I leaned in and looked at the textbook, then back to her concentrating face.
"What's up?" I asked, trying to get her attention.
She slowly finished her line and looked up at me, my face hovering over the side of the book.
"I'm fine. I just got here early so I decided to carry on my studying" Serena explained, closing the textbook. She suddenly smiled and it stunned me a little. Her smile was always dazzling and made me freeze up for a few seconds. She laughed as I stared awkwardly at her. I felt my cheeks heat up as I looked away, a little embarrassed.
"Studying? Already?" I said, trying to avoid the embarrassing moment I just had.
"Yeah" Serena's face became a serious looking frown "You haven't started preparing for the finals in the summer semester?"
It was January and we had literally just passed our first set of exams, which I only just got through.
"Erm, no" I simply replied, with the straightest face.
"You should, Ash. If you really want to get the highest grades possible" Serena advised me, sound like my Mom.
"Ok, ok. If it makes you feel happier" I smiled, giving Serena a gentle kiss on the lips. "Let me go grab my lunch"
"Kay" Serena turned back to her textbook just as the other girls arrived. I headed over to the queue to get my food.
After school had ended, I contemplated Serena's words. I wasn't really sure if I should study to try and get the grades and stuff that I needed to follow on with Serena. The whole thing made feel frustrated, but I knew it was too early to be thinking so hard. I got up from my bed after blocking out the thoughts and moved over to the window. Calem and Gary were walking into my garden as if on cue. I raced downstairs and opened the door just as Calem went to knock on it. He tripped over the front step and went flying across the corridor. He just managed to keep his balance, while Gary stared for a moment in surprise. He then walked in, bursting out laughing. Calem walked up to me with an angry face and poked me on the chest with force.
"HEY!" He shouted. He suddenly smiled and then moved his hand onto my shoulder "Sup, Ash"
"Erm..." I felt really strange from his reaction "Nothing, really"
"Good" Gary threw his bag onto the sofa as we walked into the main room. "We came to do some of that maths work"
"But I don't have any? Besides I am not in your maths?" I wondered, thinking I must be stupid. I wasn't in their maths, atleast I didn't think so..
"So? We wanted to hang out anyway" Calem casually hopped over the sofa and landed in the recliner, before reclining. He sighed as he got into a comfortable position.
"So the whole 'maths work' is an excuse to your parents I imagine?" I asked with a little grin, realising they was pretending so they could come hang out at my house.
They both nodded, just as I had thought and then I flicked on the TV. We spent the next hour watching a few programmes before the TV got super boring, so I switched it off.
"How has Serena been?" Gary sounded serious, but it was like he was trying to tease me.
"Why would you want to know?" I instantly replied, almost defensively.
"Can I not take an interest in my friends feelings?" Gary sounded like he was trying to act innocent. To be honest, he sounded like an idiot.
"She's been all good, everything is fine" I shrugged, giving him the best answer I could.
"I heard Kevin has been trying to make some moves" Gary whispered in my ear. I looked at his smirking face, trying to make sense of what he just said to me.
"Explain" I replied, my face becoming serious.
"Well, from what I heard from Misty, Kevin spotted them in the mall and it went something like this.." Gary began to explain Kevin's strange attitude with Serena at The Mall. My face slowly transcended into one of anger and I unconsciously clenched my fists.
"Misty sorted him out, don't worry Ash" Calem explained, ending the story "Lets just say it took one punch"
I gasped for a breath in a little shock. Misty knocked Kevin out?!
"Holy crap!" I shouted into the room "She makes me feel like half a man compared to her"
"I know, right" Gary smirked, as he unzipped his bag. He took out three cans of sprite and threw one my way. I caught it and cracked the cold can open.
"Thanks" I said, taking a slight sip.
"Are you going to talk to Kevin, though Ash?" Calem asked me as we sat in silence.
"Of course I am" I replied as casually as possible, not wanting to sound angry.
"We know you too well" Gary laughed, also taking a drink from his can.
"Well, we have been friends for four years now, so I guess I knew you would expect me to talk to him" gave a little shrug, looking around the room for the clock. 5:30pm.
"Just don't tell Serena, she is worried you might hurt Kevin" Calem warned me, with a serious tone.
"I am already aware of Serena. She is always protective of people no matter what, that's one of the things I love about her" I smiled, thinking about Serena at that moment.
"Aww! Ash is in love!" Gary shouted and I swear I had heard that before.
"Can you stop saying that?" I urged him, finding it slightly annoying.
"You can't deny the love Ash" Calem gave a little chuckle and I just frowned a little bit. Bunch of teasing idiots.
"You guys should go now, before my Mom comes back and goes on a rampage cooking dinner" It was more of a warning then a promise for food. If my Mom cooked for more than two people, it was always too much and I would be eating leftovers all week.
"Yeah, yeah lover boy" Gary waved off my 'warning'. He hooked his bag over his shoulders and followed Calem to the door.
"See ya tomorrow, lover boy!" Calem waved, joining in the teasing.
I sighed and rubbed my eyes in annoyance. "Whatever" I said, before shutting the door as they left. I headed upstairs to wait for my Mom to come home, hovering through my social media. I went to text messages and tapped on 'Serena'.
You know I am going to talk to Kevin about all of that stuff in The Mall, right? I asked, disregarding Calem and Gary's warning.
There was no reply for a few minutes. I heard the door open and close downstairs, just as my phone buzzed.
There is really no need Ash, it is fine. She replied. I thought about her text but I knew what to put next anyway.
Well, I am going to do it. He needs to know his place now. I know you don't want me to, but I have to, ok? Nothing will change my mind xx. Those kisses should do the trick. I looked over the message before pressing 'send'.
Ok, Ash. Be careful for me, please x. She almost instantly replied.
Will do, don't worry about me ;) I finished, before turning off my phone. I headed downstairs to go and see my Mom.
"Mom?" I wondered, heading into the kitchen. She was packing away some late shopping and turned around as I walked in.
"How was school Ash?" She wondered, a bright smile on her face as she saw me.
"It was alright" I shrugged, before continuing seriously. "I am going to be out for a little, you can go ahead and cook dinner anyway though"
"Oh, ok Ash. Don't be too long then" My Mom shouted as I threw my trainers on.
"I won't be! Promise!" I shouted back, heading out. I adjusted my cap and then threw my hands in my pockets to keep them out of the cold, before walking at a fast speed down the street. I memorised the route I had took previously to Kevin's in Kenny's car, so I got there really fast.
Everything was seeming to be on cue today, because Kevin was just about to walk inside.
"Kevin!" I shouted, rushing over to his garden. He turned with a look of half disgust, half hatred, staring at me.
"What do you want?" His tone was harsh and he spoke fast, clearly wanting to get this over with.
"The next time you touch Serena, you will have me to answer too, not Misty" I looked at the plaster over his nose. He noticed my gaze and turned away. He gave an angry snarl, almost like a wild animal.
"You don't deserve her you know" He shouted, facing away still.
"What, and you do? Is that it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I kept my hands in my pockets and followed Kevin's gaze as he looked at me.
"Maybe it is, but she shouldn't be with you"
"That's funny, coming from the guy that was ok with it all at first. You really need to evaluate your priorities and stop acting like a piece of trash, because one day, you will be thrown in the bin and left, just like every piece of trash in this world" I clenched my fists in my pockets, becoming frustrated by Kevin just standing there.
"If you are asking for a fight, I will give you one" Kevin clenched his fists and took one step forward. The door to his house suddenly opened and his sister stood in the doorway.
"Don't waste your time with him, Kevin" She urged him, grabbing his shoulder "Come inside"
He shrugged her hand off and stormed inside, she gave a weird look at me before following him, shutting the door behind her. I let my hands settle and sighed deeply, before heading back home. If Kevin wanted violence, then all I have to do is let him go for the first move and make it self defence. There was no way I was going to hurt him because of Serena.
