(Ash)

It was now mid-afternoon, the time of day when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. The heat was just as intense as any other day during the summer.

"Hey, Ash!" Cilan shouted from the shop door "Do you want anything?"

I stood up and shook my head "Nothing for me. I'll just be by the ice cream truck, ok?"

"Sure!" Cilan turned and went back into the shop.

I headed over to the ice cream truck "Can I have a vanilla ice cream, please?"

"Make that two" A familiar voice said from behind me. I turned around and Serena was right in front of me.

"Oh, Serena!" I was surprised to see her "When did you guys get back?"

"Ten minutes ago. I rushed to come and see you, but then I had to walk all the way here" She complained, bobbing up and down impatiently.

I grabbed our ice creams and headed back to the bench. We sat down and Serena sighed, relaxed after a long day.

"Last year of school" I blurted out, speaking to myself.

"Starts tomorrow" Serena huffed "I am not looking forward to it"

"Exams will be a pain, I'll give you that" I laughed and Serena frowned.

"What are you going to do, after this year?" She tilted her head in question. She looked so beautiful when she did that.

"Oh, erm- I haven't really thought about it too much" I lied. Being with Serena in the same college was all I could think about "I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it"

"Well" Serena put her thumb up and winked "Do your best!"

"Heh, I hope I can do good too" I looked up at Serena with a smile. She smiled back and then leaned in closer. I followed, our lips meeting halfway.

"Erm, sorry to ruin your moment but we better get going Ash, we'll miss the movie" Cilan was suddenly stood there. I slowly moved away from Serena and laughed nervously.

"Yeah. Sorry Serena but I gotta go!" I turned around and waved, before rushing off after Cilan. It was almost time for the movie we planned to see to start.

As soon as we got to the cinema, it was already starting.

"We missed our chance!" Cilan was annoyed. I collapsed on the nearest bench, gasping for breath.

"Maybe some other time?" I said between panting heavily. The run was really tiring.

"Say, Ash" Cilan sat next to me and looked around "When did Serena get back?"

"They got back just now. She tried to see me at home but obviously, we was out"

"Ah right. It was a surprise. I thought they was back yesterday!" Cilan laughed a little, then sighed.

"It's ok. Lets just go hang at your place for a bit. That movie probably sucked anyway" I smiled to keep him happy.

Cilan nodded "Right. I bet it did"

As soon as we got into Cilans room, he collapsed onto his bed.

"To think, only a few years ago you joined our group and have been friends with everyone since. Now, it's our last year of high school. Maybe even the last year I will see most of you" Cilan suddenly said.

I have to admit, I was surpised.

"Huh?"

"Well, you know I am one of the top students. That means I will get opportunities at the big colleges and universities" Cilan explained. I froze in thought for a moment, he was right.

"Well then" I walked over and patted his back "Lets make this year count!"

Cilan grinned and nodded "You got it, Ash!"

(Serena)

"I got to see him, but he was with Cilan, so they took off" I explained to Dawn over the phone.

"Did you ask him about college?" She asked the obvious question.

"Not really. When I did he said I don't know, then Cilan showed up"

"Maybe you should be worried after the practice exams. Ash can be a bit of a slacker, so if his grades aren't good you can bring it up then" Dawn made a good idea. I nodded to myself in agreement.

"Right. I guess. I am not the one to try and do long distance, so in the end, I would want Ash to do just as good as me" I let out a sigh on the phone. If me and Ash didn't get into the same college or close by, then it would be an awkward situation.

"Hope for the best then!" Dawn said in support.

"Right!" I confidently replied "Well, I better go now. See you at school"

"See ya, Serena!" Dawn shouted as I hung up.

(Ash)

It was getting late, so I headed home. As soon as I got in I ate my dinner then sat and watched TV.

"These back to school adverts make me want to cry" I moaned as Mom walked past.

"Cry all you want. Just remember it's tomorrow" My Mom giggled and walked upstairs.

"Nothing good is on" I mumbled to myself. I took a quick look through the window and thought for a moment. This year was truly the final year. After the summer, we will all be going our seperate ways. We have to make it the best year we can, and go out with a bang.

Don't expect frequent updates. The fact I am starting now means I am slowly getting into the swing of things again. This may be a long ride but I hope it is worth it.
