Chapter 27 - Last Day (Ash)
Gary sat by the end of the pool, his feet bobbing in and out of the water as it moved in waves.
"I give up. I was stupid to think even my looks could get me any girl I chose" Gary sighed.
"I guess you're right" I said. All we could do was agree so we didn't encourage him to continue. The last day was ending as the first did. We all decided to relax by the pool while the night sky rolled in.
"This week has been great!" Cilan lifted his glass of cola.
We all nodded and clinked glasses. A week to remember for life. Our friendships had grown stronger on this holiday. The fact Calem or Clemont couldn't come drifted our friendships between them two apart slightly.
"Gary taught us how to not pick up girls" Kenny grinned.
"And how to get banned from 3 places in one week" Drew added.
"And also how to spend 250 dollars on a portable TV to smash it the next day" Cilan added to the conversation. They all began to laugh, even Gary saw the funny side.
"To be fair, he also helped us gain courage for basketball. After all, he got us into the game vs those basketball players" I made a fair point. Gary smiled and nodded my way.
"Thanks Ash" He replied, lifting his glass up in appreciation.
"Are we just going to sit here? Drew asked, before putting his glass down. He grabbed my arms and jumped into the pool.
We began wrestling under the pool and then another splash came is as Gary joined in, followed by Cilan then Kenny.
We spent an hour in the pool, before deciding to head back to our rooms. We was waking up early, so it was best to sleep as much as possible.
The next day, we got on the plane easily and sat it in the same seats.
"So Gary, how about a new challenge?" Gary's head snapped up at Cilan.
"Instead of one week, take the next school year and try and get a genuine girlfriend" He smiled and Gary understood. After this week, Gary had less of an ego and didn't compliment himself all the time.
"Challenge accepted!" He said, for what felt like the 100th time.
"But Gary, you can't actually contemplate offering money to a girl" Kenny snickered and we burst out laughing more than the plane journey here.
Kenny's Dad made me jump when he spoke, I forgot he was here. "Don't tell me that happened, Gary?"
Gary hung his head in shame and our continuous laughter gave him an answer. Kenny's dad laughed a little.
"Oh Gary, don't waste your money on women" He shook his head.
"Dad, you do it with mom!" Kenny exclaimed.
This time, Gary laughed.
We all joined in and it was the last moment in L.A as the plane took off, bound for Vaniville.
