Chapter 8 - The Brains, The Brawn, and The Beauty

(Dawn)

2 Months Before The Reunion...

With planning well underway, all we had to do is prepare for the reunion. We wanted to have a little party, with all of us together. We had everyone, besides Ash and Serena.

They didn't need to know about it yet.

"What's our budget, because I am broke" Calem scratched his head and laughed nervously.

"Well, I have quite a lot of money, since it is the start of the month" Kenny tapped his pocket, where his wallet was.

"I have some money leftover from last month's allowance," I said, pulling out my purse. In truth, my dad was a person with lots of money so I still had a months allowance left from saving so much.

"You mean, you and Kenny both have enough for everything yourselves?" Misty grinned, folding her arms. What was she up to?

Iris seemed to catch on because she jumped out of nowhere. "Yeah, why don't you both go shopping?"

"Sure, sounds like a plan" Kenny was onboard, so I had no choice.

"Let's not waste any time" I stared daggers at Misty, "you guys better cover Kenny's workload in the restaurant"

She gave me a mock salute and me and Kenny left.

"Who's car shall we use?" Kenny asked, casually chucking his hands in his pockets. I looked at him and noticed how much change he had gone through over the last year. His shoulders were broader and he was a lot taller. Kenny had clearly worked out, he looked great.

"Well, if you want to be a gentleman, you won't mind driving?" I was already walking over to his car before he could reply.

"Guess I have no choice, huh?" Kenny shrugged and hopped into the front seat and I opened the passenger door.

"You could have opened the door for me" I teased, making him shrug again.

"Woops, guess I have been exposed, I am not a gentleman"

"I already knew that one" I winked as he turned on the engine and drove out of the car park.

"Got any certain music tastes, or is it still whatever like always?" Kenny started to tinker with the radio.

"Aww, you know me too well" I said, shrugging. "Yeah, anything is ok"

Kenny put on Vaniville's radio station and the songs were okay. We continued down the road and towards the Mall.

"So, what should we buy first?" Kenny wondered to himself, but I already had an idea.

"Well, we have plenty of time. How about we just browse through different shops and plan certain things, order some things etcetera" I suggested to Kenny, who nodded in agreement.

"I can't come up with an idea and as boring as it sounds your idea works"

"It's settled then" I clapped my hands with joy. "I love shopping!"

"No one knew that" Kenny rolled his eyes, clear sarcasm in his tone.

I ignored him and skipped away.

We looked in various different shops, ordering food to be prepared on the day, cakes, buying little things for the reunion party.

"I wonder how the others are handling things," I thought aloud.

"Eh, the business does usually pick up around now. But, Drew is there so everything will be good" Kenny pick up some more bags. "Let's get going"

"Yeah, I think we bought quite a lot, considering it is a little bit away yet" I looked at the few bags in Kenny's hands and mine. We also had lots of food ordered to take down to their college. Now we just had to do the final planning and then everything would be ready.

We could tell everyone was struggling inside as soon as we parked up. Kenny rushed out and into the restaurant, while I made sure his car was locked, before heading in.

It wasn't too bad, there was a large queue and lots of noise, kids running around. I could see Cilan having a blast in the kitchen, he loved to cook. Drew was taking orders with Iris and May while Calem and Gary were packing and wrapping food, placing food on trays and such. Kenny had made his way to help Cilan.

"Where's Misty?" I asked Drew, shifting between the gate by the counter.

"She is supposed to be helping, I am not sure" Drew turned back to the till, giving his full attention to the impatient crowd.

I checked in the office and sure enough, Misty was there.

"Working hard or hardly working?" I sat down on Kenny's chair while Misty spun around on Drew's.

"Better in here than out there" Misty shrugged, spinning once more.

"I suppose" I shrugged in reply.

An awkward silence filled in the gaps as we both sat and stared into space. I never realized how much I never talked to Misty. The past few days, she was always moaning at me or getting bored. Even now, she was refusing to even help out a little.

May walked in, the backbone of the little group we had formed after the group parted ways.

"You guys seem a little quiet" May walked into the middle of the room and looked at me, then Misty.

We both shrugged at the same time.

"I know Misty disagrees with you at times Dawn and I already know you find it hard to talk to her because of this" May spoke analytically. She was definitely the brains of the group.

"I don't disagree with anyone!" Misty burst out, jumping out of the seat.

"Sorry, I could have worded it differently" May calmed Misty down. She was always the type to react in a violent way, whether it was a slight or major reaction.

"What are you trying to say?" I flicked my hair and put a hand under my chin.

"Well, we are a group now. So how about we put our differences aside and be great friends like we have always been? Things may change between us in the future, but right now, we have got to see everyone again and we will be meeting Ash and Serena again soon. Isn't it exciting? Just think, the whole group, reunited. Let's not have any petty arguments on the way" May finished with a smile.

"I guess so" me and Misty both shrugged and spoke at the same time. We couldn't help but laugh at ourselves because we coincidentally spoke at the same time. May joined in with the laugh and the tension disappeared like fire being extinguished.

"Well, glad that's settled. Let's go help out then, shall we?" May rolled up her sleeves and looked at us both.

"You know, we make quite a good team" I said as Misty and I stood up.

"Hmm?" Misty wondered what I meant.

"Well, May is the brains" I smiled at May, who looked like she wanted to say thanks. "Misty is the brawn"

"What's that suppose to mean?!" Misty shouted almost instantly.

"Exactly" I giggled, before looking at the time.

"What about you?" May asked me after a moment had passed.

"The beauty, of course," I replied, flicking my hair while grinning.

"Of course" May nodded, before gripping the door handle. "Let's go help out, they need some people to clean the tables up"

"Let's do it!" I felt a little excited. Working under pressure and with little time was hard, but having a challenge was fun. It made me realize how hard we could all work together as a team and this made me think about the reunion.

If we could all work just as hard with the reunion as we have done with the restaurant, then we could consider it to be one of the most memorable moments of our lives.

Because I certainly wasn't ready to forget all the friends I had made since the first year of high school or all of the drama and relationships we had all been through. It was one hell of a rollercoaster and we all had front-row seats.

Serena and Ash got seats even further at the front, being part of even bigger problems.

I couldn't wait to see them both one more time.

It certaintly won't be the last time.
