Chapter Six
If given an order, Luke Orr would do it since sticking by Greyson's side with his leadership was important. He could do whatever he pleased, as long as the job was done. Finding Jason in this place was the new objective.
When they reached Simcoe, Luke glanced around. Things had gotten more under control now that Greyson was in charge. People weren't walking aimlessly or stealing because that's where his own job came in as an officer of what punishment someone would get for disobedience against the rules.
"Turn invisible, perv, or I'll kill you," he snapped.
Preston automatically turned invisible, walking slightly away from his side. It was impossible to see the pervert with that freaky power of his that made him a spy for Greyson.
"Where the hell is he?" Luke snapped.
It was making him impatient because, at least with Greyson, he knew some of the people. Maybe finding someone who was at the meeting would be helpful.
"Hey, there's the one dude from the meeting," Preston said in a low voice.
Luke spotted the short one with dark hair and skin. "Hey!" he called.
Zane automatically looked up, which made him jump.
"Where's Jason?" Luke spat.
"He was going to check out the cage keeping us in here," he said. "I think he was back in the daycare straight ahead."
They passed the grey Foodland toward the small daycare. On the outside, it was brown and yellow siding, with one black door. Kids were surrounded as Luke pushed some of them down in the process. He didn't care who got hurt because children were always annoying.
There was a girl with long raven hair and dark round eyes that came running toward them, guiding some of the children to the side.
"Where's Jason?" He snapped.
Ilya's eyes grew wide, and she jogged to the small kitchen area. There were some kids gathered around one girl in the main area who looked eerily similar to the girl she talked to. The people who helped out there were near the kitchen and were watching him.
Luke glanced at Preston. "Don't say anything."
Luke darted his eyes back to the kitchen, where Jason emerged with Bella and another boy with bushy hair while wearing retro clothes.
"Luke..." Jason trailed off. "What do you need?"
Luke gripped Jason's shirt and pulled him out of the daycare. "It's better if we talk out here, right?" He snarled.
Luke hauled Jason outside by his yellow shirt, throwing him to the ground when he released him. It took Jason a minute, as he coughed a few times before looking back up at him.
"Did you find any new information recently?" Luke demanded with crossed arms.
"Not really." Jason coughed, trying to catch his breath.
"Did you find any information?" Luke growled, gripping his shirt tighter this time.
"There's some bubble surrounding us," Jason said, nodding his head multiple times. "It's keeping us trapped."
"Piece of advice: next time you lie, I'll touch that slut." Luke said, throwing him to the hard ground and walking away.
He could spot the outline of Preston as he lurked near Jason. The order had been set in motion as he went back to the black car. Nobody asked him for anything as he travelled toward it. Some were playing with tools from the small hardware store, which gave him an idea. He went into the empty store and took a cart. He searched the shelves for gasoline and other tools.
Inside the store, there were rows of different tools or equipment on metal shelves that he could use. He loaded in hammers, nails, drills, rope, and even a nail gun. He pushed the cart out of the hardware store and toward the car. He loaded the tools into the car and pushed the cart into the parking lot. As he drove back, he wore a smug smile.
Maybe even using this equipment for Uden students would be helpful. If people wanted to leave, that wasn't the plan. Greyson would injure but never kill. On the other hand, Luke would injure the unworthy.
As he pulled up, some people were hanging around. "Hey!" he called, making Maverick and Oscar look over. "Load up some of this in the shed."
There was a large metal shed where they kept a lawnmower and other gardening equipment at Uden Academy. It always ended up getting hijacked, since people were excellent at it. There were some plant fertilizers and shovels that might come in handy later if he needed them.
Once they finished, he travelled back to Greyson's office upstairs, passing some of the students who stood around. He was apparently speaking with some members of Simcoe.
Inside, he saw Greyson talking to three guys, all with baseball bats. The pudgy boy was in the middle, with the tall blonde beside him. On the other side was a short, beige-skinned boy with curly hair and green eyes, wearing pink shorts with a black shirt and long, bright green socks.
"I was wondering if you guys wanted to help on my side," Greyson said.
"If we are allowed to do whatever we want in Uden," Henry grunted.
"Of course, but you must just follow my order," Greyson started. "I need you to bring Jason's sister to me. I'll give you a car to drive there and do whatever you please to get her."
Greyson held up some keys that Henry took before the three of them left the office, shutting the door behind them.
"Who's doing the beating?" Scarlett snarked, looking toward the two.
"Jason is being watched, and I grabbed some tools from the hardware shop." Luke said.
"It's best to go slow for now," Greyson implied.
Mark iced Jason's head as he sat at the table. He couldn't believe someone would do that so easily. Barely any words were spoken as he gripped his shirt and slammed him down. His head ached as Bella handed him some Advil.
"That's one guy to avoid," Mark said.
"You want to go see Melany?" Bella suggested.
Jason shook his head because he needed to see what was going on. There was still figuring out ways to control youth from taking sides like it's a war zone.
"I'll be fine," Jason said, slowly turning. "Was Ashley out of the church?"
Bella and Mark seemed just as confused as he was. Panic began to take hold in his body. What if she started exhibiting reckless behaviour or even died? Has the sickness grown worse?
"Okay, church," Jason commanded.
Bella helped him by wrapping an arm around his back and slowly walking him to leave the daycare. There were children still all over the place, playing with Barbie dolls or crying because they missed their parents. It has slowly become a distant memory about their parents. Nobody has come to tell them that it's actually a nightmare and that everything will be fine tomorrow.
Ilya looked up from reading a picture book to some children with eyes filled with concern. He knew he should probably rest, but with everything going on, he didn't have the time to.
"I'll be fine. Thank you for taking care of the children," Jason said.
All of them walked slowly towards the church as people began crowding towards him. They were asking questions about where their parents or siblings were. He brushed them off, saying he would answer questions later. He noticed shopping carts scattered in the streets with food wrappers everywhere.
Zane had informed him that a few fires had broken out due to cooking or ovens being left on. Greyson had sent out people to do search groups to make sure stoves or anything that could contribute to a fire was turned off.
They reached the church and climbed the cement stairs. Bella supported his back as Mark opened the creaky door. Someone with a bandage on their head came up from the basement. It wasn't even a basement, but a medical centre. Due to their father being a doctor, Melany and Cindy mostly took charge.
Inside the room, a boy's arm was being wrapped in gauze. On the cot beside him sat Ashley, smiling at her brother. Cindy looked up from her seat with a wide smile.
"Your sister is okay. Oh, are you hurt?" Cindy's voice turned to panic.
"I got thrown to the ground. The headache seemed to be clearing up," Jason implied, rubbing the back of his neck.
Cindy rushed to a shelf that once stored Bibles for the church. There was now medication on it for various illnesses that people had provided from the pharmacy and houses. She poured two Advils into her hand and placed them in his pocket.
"Just in case," Cindy said, smiling.
Jason nodded as Ashley travelled toward him, hugging him. His mind felt slightly dazed after being thrown to the ground multiple times by Luke and walking all over the place. Maybe it was a good idea to start learning how to drive cars.
"I'm feeling a lot better!" she cheered, walking out with all of them.
Jason couldn't help but smile as he peered at Bella. He wasn't exactly sure what Ashley could do. She could always help with the fire station or daycare. Helping in the medical basement was another choice she could make.
"Hey, weren't Henry and his crew guarding the liquor store?" Mark asked, turning to look at Jason.
Jason widened his eyes, noticing the parking lot was empty, with some people drinking without the guards of the area. People were coming out of the store with wine bottles or swinging the bottles all around until they would shatter all over the ground.
Where had they gone? He knew people were getting jealous of those with supernatural powers. Maybe Henry and his crew were the ones who fought against it. If that happened, people would be battling against each other.
"We can't exactly go looking. Maybe we should check on Nelson? He was running Burger King on his own," Jason sighed.
Bella still held her grip around his back, which he found comforting. She had her guesses about what was happening, but this was different from the unknown.
"There's your laser power too. How does that work?" Bella questioned.
He forgot that he ended up shooting the blue light into a wall with his bare hands. It had destroyed a small part of the wall in the apartment fire, but it hasn't worked since.
"Does it just happen randomly?" Mark asked, glancing back.
"It just happened suddenly. No warning or anything," he said, nearing the new Burger King. It was no longer the same restaurant that served Whopper sandwiches. Everything would be done differently.
"Jason, I'm going to find Talia," Ashley spoke up.
"You could probably go with Zane. He's near the grocery store," Jason suggested, pointing toward the automatic doors. He was guiding people in and out of what they were taking.
People had begun following the rules he had started setting at the store. That kept them in control of what people could have. Ashley walked toward Zane as Jason felt a pit of unease. Was this really the best choice?
"She'll be okay," Bella said, squeezing his hand.
Mark pulled the silver handle open and spotted some kids up at the front counter where you'd place an order. Nelson was serving them with a brown paper bag with the Burger King logo on it as the two boys rushed out.
"Nice to see you," Jason greeted. "How's the business running?"
Nelson was in Jason's class before all this started. He did stand out for being an amazing hockey player who played outside of Simcoe in Barrie, since the most they had at their school was a floor hockey team they did for fun in the winter. Jason had tried floor hockey before, but during their first match, he ended up with a black eye after getting elbowed by Stick.
Nelson went over and grabbed a pre-made sandwich that was made on the back counter. It wasn't the original sandwich you could get at any store since it was a whopper patty on a long bun.
"Isn't an original chicken sandwich supposed to be made on that bun?" Bella asked.
"I call this the OW sandwich. Since it's my new business, I decided to change the names and how they're made," Nelson implied, placing the sandwich in a brown paper bag and handing it to Bella."You don't look good. Get into a fight?"
"One of the Uden kids threw him on the ground," Mark said.
"Jason!" Zane's voice yelled, breathless with blood dripping from his nose. "Ashley was taken by Henry and his crew."
Zane dropped to his knees as Mark rushed to his side, holding his side in pain. He lifted Zane's shirt slightly, seeing a large purple and blue bruise on his side. He knew that wasn't just randomly formed from falling down or crashing into something.
"Where were they going?" Jason panicked.
"Uden Academy," Zane said, breathless.
"Mark, stay here and help Zane. We will go to Uden," Jason implied, hobbling out the door with Bella. He tried to search for any form of transportation, but none was in sight.
"Go to my house; we have a golf cart," Bella stated.
The two rushed to her house with some mountain bikes that they grabbed from the ground. Bella still had her hand on his back to try and keep him steady, since he was having a hard time keeping up with her speed since his body still ached.
When they reached Bella's house, she rushed into her back grey shed, opening it by using an automatic button on the side. Once the large shed door opened, there was a white golf cart parked out front. She grabbed the key from the cup holder and started it. Hitting the gas, she put the golf cart on maximum speed.
Since Uden Academy was out of town, it was a disadvantage. He didn't know the road through the highway to get to the academy since he had never gone to see the school with his mother. Bella told him that she had been to Uden Academy once, but it was to check out their education system.
"I feel Henry sided with Greyson and them due to your leadership," Bella implied. "He was one who was against the rules set out in order. Greyson or Scarlett may have called them to help."
Greyson could have made a deal with them. His leadership still confused him, considering he didn't seem horrible. If anything, he was determined to do something. The power of Simcoe to control everyone? Irritate him for fun?
They pulled in front of Uden while people stared at him from outside the doors guarded by three people. The one was a young girl with dark hair with bangs and brown skin sitting on a green folding chair, but wobbly standing when she saw them. The other two near the door, whom Jason recognized as Finn and Henry.
Someone gripped his arm tightly as he slowly turned. "Playing the superhero role," Stick snarled.
"Greyson wants to have a chat with you," Henry spat.
Stick and Henry brought them up the side staircase and through the school. There were some students staring from classrooms or a couple running down the hallway. There were many awards on the ground, with the glass shattered. The place in general has always given him the creeps.
Stick threw him into the office while Henry was holding Bella's arms. "Go in alone, or she gets hurt," Henry ordered.
Jason stood wobbly in the red office, where he spotted Greyson looking out a large window, holding something in his hand. Scarlett was sitting on a wooden seat near his desk, legs crossed, with a slight smirk drawn on her lips.
"Where's Ashley?" Jason exclaimed in panic.
"Who?" Greyson jabbed, slamming the door with an invisible force.
"My sister!" Jason freaked.
Greyson finally turned and faced him, an eyebrow raised. He was a good-looking individual in general. He had wavy chestnut hair that was neatly combed with bright blue eyes. He was no longer wearing the uniform that some people wore but a dark green crewneck and jeans.
"Oh, she's having fun with Luke," Greyson snarled.
Jason boiled with anger, his hands clenching into fists. He rushed for the closed door, but some invisible force threw him into the wall.
"It's best not to leave this room," Scarlett stated.
Jason's mind felt dizzy, looking up at the two of them. He wanted to help Ashley, but he wouldn't be able to get out of this mess until Greyson finished whatever he wanted with him.
"Did you truly know your mother?" Greyson questioned.
Jason slowly stood up, feeling pain rush into his left side. He could already see that it was bleeding and that a bruise was forming. It was crazy that his powers could throw him around in the air with a tight force under control, yet Jason still had no idea how he could use his.
"My mother? Pretty sure I knew everything," Jason said.
"When is your birthday?" Greyson asked.
"May 18th, born at 10:33 am." Jason said.
Greyson walked toward him, looking down at him. "My birthday is May 18th, while I was born at 10:36 am," he spat.
He shoved a documented birth certificate that showed information he never knew. It first stated his full name, Jason Liam Harp, but it also stated Greyson Miles Harp. His family had been wrong ever since the start.
"No..." Jason gasped as he read the document repeatedly.
"Fraternal," Greyson snapped, snatching the birth certificate. "Obviously, my name got changed."
His mother had lied to him all these years. Why keep one child instead of two? Now those words on his mother's laptop seemed to all connect. The person she had been writing about had to be Greyson.
"Quite a shock, isn't it?" Greyson inquired as he tilted his head slightly, arms crossed.
Jason was stunned, unable to even think in the moment. It was no wonder he never realized they were twins. Greyson looked completely different than he did. Nothing seemed the same at all.
"Is this the part where you hug?" Scarlett snickered.
Greyson made him stay in place with an invisible force that caused his muscles to tighten. There was a fire burning in his eyes, but it wasn't out of reunion and acceptance but of resentment.
"See, it doesn't seem like you knew your mother," he snapped.
Jason's body was then thrown onto the brown tile floor by force. Any muscle he tried to move ached as he gritted his teeth. He had to think of a way out of this. His hands were forced to the ground, which prevented him from using the power.
Maybe override him with his emotions? As he tried raising his hands slowly, that burning power shot out again. Greyson automatically dodged to the right, causing his power to stop.
Jason rushed for the door before Greyson could get his hands on him. Henry and Stick had disappeared from where Bella was. This school was large, filled with youth guarding or lurking around. He bolted down the stairs, rushing down the left hallway. Most of the classrooms were empty of children. Everywhere looked the same, with the maroon lockers and black halls.
"Why are you here?" Emma questioned in front of him; her mouth was pressed into a thin line, and her arms were crossed.
"I'm looking for Bella and my sister!" Jason panicked.
Maybe some people were trustworthy at this place. Not everyone had to agree with staying on Greyson's side. She twisted her dirty blonde hair, biting her lip. At the moment, he wanted to run, but this may be the best option.
"Bella is in the last classroom, the opposite way," she said, darting her eyes to the wall.
"Thanks!" Jason exclaimed, dashing toward the other side of the school.
"Why the hell are you doing this?" he heard her voice yell.
As he reached the unguarded brown doorway, he gasped. Bella was tied with a steel skipping rope to a chair in one of the white and black classrooms. There were desks pushed to one side of the classroom near the four long windows. He spotted a second steel skipping rope near Henry's leg along with the pocket knife Stick was holding.
"Let her go!" he hissed, his blood boiling.
"Unfortunately, that isn't an option," Henry stated, shaking his head.
If he used that power of his, there was a risk of burning Bella in the process. It would free her partly, but it could get her burned.
Stick came rushing toward him with the knife still in hand. Jason could only tense up as he dodged out of the way, rushing to the opposite side of the classroom and crashing into the wall. He rushed behind a school desk chair, where Henry cornered him.
Jason glanced at the corner of his eye to see Bella with her teeth gritted, trying to wiggle her hands from the skipping rope. He noticed that when she moved her arms, there were thick red marks that were cutting off her circulation.
He rushed at Bella, despite his body feeling in absolute agony. Henry came charging towards him, although he was slower than Stick. Jason placed a hand behind him, and that blue, burning power shot out. It hit the knife out of Henry's hand and fell to the floor, melting a corner of the blade.
Jason untied the triple knots of the skipping rope that were tied around Bella. He rushed as fast as he could to untie the ones around her ankles, but Stick kicked him in the side before he could. He gritted his teeth, holding his side with watery eyes.
"Let him go." Jason narrowed his eyes at the doorway where Scarlett stood.
"But—" Henry started.
"You don't want to disobey orders," Scarlett said.
Henry untied the ropes at Bella's ankles as she rushed to his side. She supported him with a wobbly arm on his back. Henry and Stick glared at the two of them from inside the classroom. Why let them go when Greyson was just throwing him around like a rag doll?
"Can't have you dying yet," Scarlett leaned in and whispered.
People in the halls were glancing at him as Emma's eyes darted toward the wall. Nobody he knew would inform him. This place was huge, which Jason didn't consider at first. He should have brought Zane and Mark along for backup.
"What should we do?" Bella whispered.
They stopped near a women's bathroom with three white stalls. He leaned against the white and maroon-tile wall as he closed his eyes. Ideas were replaced with physical pain that left him wanting to fall unconscious. Getting treated for his wounds was his only idea in mind, but going to town was the issue.
Jason could only shrug without speaking. "I want to leave, but we have to get Ashley," he murmured.
"You have to get treated. We can come back after you get healed." Bella winced, her arms bruised.
"Okay..." Jason trailed off.
Bella wrapped her arm around Jason as the two slowly made their way out of the washroom. Even if he was hurt, there was one thought that struck back: Greyson was his twin brother. He had ordered them to release him, but for what cause? Did Greyson have something planned?
Bella pushed the heavy school door open using her hip. Their golf cart was surprisingly still parked out front without any damage. She seated him next to her as she drove slowly back to Simcoe.
He couldn't believe he failed at a mission. He was supposed to have brought Ashley back unharmed, but that was the opposite now. The two of them were injured, and they haven't brought Ashley back, but he also knows the truth now about his family. Instead of just having a stepsister, he had a blood-related twin brother.
When they entered the town, everything still seemed as normal as it could be. People were still patrolling outside of the grocery store, or two people were entering the daycare to start their evening shift. He saw many that he didn't know, but a few he could place names like Nevaeh Bolton.
Bella stopped the cart outside the church, which was unguarded. There were still potted purple flowers that had been untouched, with nothing appearing broken. She winced when she went to grab him, helping him up onto his feet.
They hobbled up the cement stairs that led inside the church. Bella used her hand to open the door, which made her hiss in pain when she did so. The place still smelled musty as they slowly climbed downstairs as Melany freaked. "What happened!"
Bella handed Jason to Melany as she sat on a chair. "Uden..." she trailed off.
Melany helped him onto one of the wooden cots that had a towel with some blood underneath it. The cots had originally been in the basement since a couple of years ago; they had used them in the past for a play the school did. The entire place was empty before she lifted up part of his shirt to examine the injury.
"It's my side," Jason hissed.
"Did you get beat up?" Cindy exclaimed, rushing to get a towel.
There was blood dripping on the left side, with large purple and black bruises. That was the side where Greyson had thrown him into the wall. His head felt dizzy as a cold cloth went on it.
"Thrown and kicked. Bella is hurt," he trailed, glancing up at her.
Bella was hanging her arms out that were still red with tears falling. Her arms had red marks all around them, with some bruises forming.
"Thrown? Someone picked you up?" Cindy questioned placing the warm towel on his side.
"With his mind..." Jason rasped, opening his eyes slightly.
"One of those supernatural powers?" Melany asked.
Jason gave a thumbs-up, eyes shut. Greyson was enraged by what their mother had done because he was given off like some dishrag in the sink that always gets used. He didn't understand why his mother didn't tell him in the first place.
"Who?" she asked.
"Greyson, my twin brother..." Jason rasped.
Bella automatically stood and walked toward his bed. "Twin brother? But you never had one," she remarked.
"We have to stop him and save Ashley," Jason said.
The twin reveal has finally been stated. Let's just say it will cause more drama. Don't forget to comment and vote!
