*Kamal Pov*

"You both get out of the house right now." That's what we heard when we reached the already opened door of a house belonging to Vani's cousin.

I glanced at Vani with a questioning look and she just chuckled before gesturing me to enter the house as it's the most common thing to hear that.

"Did we come at the wrong time?" I whispered not wishing to enter a house where an internal fight is going on.

"Don't worry! Let's go inside and save two people." Saying that she dragged me inside and held Sharu's hand with her other hand.

When we entered the house, I found two people sitting on the couch in silence and we can hear sounds from the kitchen.

"Didn't I ask both of you to leave the house?" I glanced up to find a woman walking out of the kitchen and glaring at the couch.

"Satvi! We both really wanted to help you both but he kept on changing the menu to his wife's taste and I want to add your favorites and in the end, we prepared all those ingredients." Rohan pointed out and I chuckled hearing that which brought everyone's attention to us.

"Vani!" Satvi said walking towards us and hugged her which made Vani completely leave my hand and I even had to step away.

She let her go before glancing at Sharu who is looking at her just now and this made Satvi kneel before her.

"Sharu! I missed you so much. Do you remember me?" She asked holding her face and Sharu gave a confused look.

"She actually forgot me. That's why I asked you to visit me frequently." Satvi complained looking at Vani.

"Di! Even you could visit us frequently, right?" She pointed out and then looked around.

"Where is my Abhi?" Vani asked and Satvi mentioned that he is in his room along with Harsha.

"Let her stay with the kids if it is fine for you." Satvi said looking at Vani and then at me.

"Don't worry! Harsha will take care of her properly and I actually feel relieved by leaving Abhinay with him. Okay?" She added when I gave a hesitant look.

I am not that close to any of them as we all met only a few times and that too in a hurry or in some important events where there was no time to actually sit and talk to each other.

However, Vani keeps on talking about her cousin and it feels like I know her a bit already. I nodded after which she picked up Sharu and climbed the stairs while Vani took hold of my hand again and walked us towards the couch.

"Now you remember me?" I asked in a whisper and she chuckled hearing that.

"Jeeju! What did you do now?" She asked looking at Rohan while Karthik waved his hands in front of her.

"Even I am your Jeeju if you forgot." He pointed that out but she completely ignored him which made Rohan smirk at him.

"We didn't do anything and she is just over reacting." Rohan said and paused when he heard a coughing sound.

"You come with me Vani and see the kitchen state and know what they both did." I glanced up to find her other cousin called Leela walking towards us.

"They prepared so many ingredients that I think we can prepare meals for the next three days without cutting any more vegetables." Leela commented while shaking her head at them.

"Why did you even let them do it?" Vani asked smiling at her.

"Satvi Di got an important meeting today and I need to go and assist her. We both were worried and decided to order food from outside for you guys but then felt it is not the right thing to do as our dear brother-in-law is visiting us for the first time with you." She glanced at me saying those words and I immediately felt awkward.

Somehow I never visited their houses and I always met them when they came to visit us. Even when Vani asked me to accompany her, it felt weird as I know everything about them but again I don't know them.

I don't know how to even treat them and also I was busy with work and everything. So, I never had a chance to visit but right now I am actually feeling awkward after she voiced out the words like that.

"Anyway, these both promised to take care of the preparation and we need to just come and cook the food. However, when we reached the house, they both finished cutting so many types of vegetables and actually fighting with each other." They both cleared their throats hearing her words.

"Do you know that they even kept the things they cut separately and used so many plates and bowls that we don't know whether anything is left in the kitchen right now to use." She added and I chuckled hearing those words.

"Let me take the guests to the guest room and let them rest. They just traveled and you are talking so much." Karthik complained standing up and gestured me towards the room.

"Now you are shy about your actions?" She scoffed at him before glancing at us.

"I took a photo of the three kids. They look so adorable and I think only Harsha remembers Sharu and she completely forgot him." We glanced up to find Satvi climbing down the stairs smiling and nearly slipped at the last step.

"I told you to be careful." Rohan said standing up and even raised his voice which shocked me and she just scowled at him.

"Who scolds when a person gets hurt in this world other than you?" She shook her head and reached for Leela and Vani left my hand to walk over.

He sighed sitting back down on the couch before glancing at Karthik who patted his shoulder with a pitying look.

"This is really cute." They continued to praise the phone and I stood there awkwardly in silence.

"You both go and rest until the lunch is prepared." Satvi said looking at me when she found me shifting to take a step back in silence.

"Let me help you guys. I am not feeling tired and it will finish sooner with extra hands." Leela nodded at her suggestion and so Karthik took me to the guest room.

After opening the door, he informed me about the switches to use for light and fan and then added, "You may see a weird thing in the washroom but don't freak out at all."

"What?" I asked but he just shrugged and walked out of the room while I continued to frown at his back.

I shrugged thinking maybe he is just teasing me and took out a bar of soap to wash my face and then return to the living room to sit with others as even I am not feeling tired.

I turned the knob and immediately walked back towards the bag as I forgot to take out the towel.

After taking the towel, I entered the washroom and put the towel on the hanger before placing the bar of soap near the washbasin.

When I glanced up, I couldn't help but squint my eyes and they widened realizing what I am looking at and immediately turned around to see a locker kind of thing at the place which was supposed to be used for the ventilation window.

I stared at that for a few seconds and immediately turned around to concentrate on washing my face before rushing out of the washroom in a hurry and even forgotten to use the towel.

Ignoring the droplets on my face, I stepped out of the room and found two people who are sitting on the couch staring straight at me as if waiting for me to come out.

"He definitely got scared!" Karthik mumbled and shook his head before glancing at Rohan.

"So, I am not the only one?" he added sighing and gestured me to come near them.

"Don't think that we are weird people and there is something going on here. Let me tell you the history behind it." Saying that he patted the couch to make me sit beside him while Rohan rolled his eyes.

"It's okay! But is there another room available?" I asked looking at Rohan.

"Sorry! There is another room beside this one but my son recently drooled over the walls and they are in the middle of repainting the room. There is another one but then you have to stare at these both romancing on the walls as the whole room is filled with their pictures." Karthik explained and I nodded thinking it will be fine.

"It is really not what you think or not think it is. Do you remember my wife getting into an accident?" Rohan asked looking at me and I nodded as that is the reason behind the engagement getting canceled.

#PAST#

After putting the engagement ring on her finger, I forwarded my hand and she slowly moved her hand to put the ring while I frowned as she seems to be stiffening her face.

"Sat... satvi got in an accident." Suddenly I heard her Mom say and she immediately stepped back in shock.

Everyone turned to stare at her in shock too and Vani stuttered to ask her again and her Mom replied while trying to control her tears but she couldn't help herself.

"She got in a very bad accident and is in coma." Aunty replied sobbing and Vani immediately rushed towards her before holding her hands.

She seems to have completely gone into shock as she continuously mumbling the word No with a struggle in her voice.

"We need to go." Uncle said and I found tears in his eyes.

Mom and I nodded at him as he glanced at us and immediately rushed out of the house with Vani and her Mom.

My Mom and I apologized to the guests and they didn't mind it as they understand the seriousness of the issue before they left the place.

However, as Uncle took the van that is hired for a few guests, Mom made a few calls to get some vehicles that can be used to drop them at their places.

After everyone left, I walked into my home along with my friends and my Mom before settling in the living room.

I can see Mom is disturbed with this and so I didn't say anything except to bring some water to her.

"Vani is really close to Satvi and even though they are cousins, they act more like siblings. I hope she gets well soon." Mom mumbled and I nodded placing my hand on her shoulder.

"Ok! Tell me if she wakes up." Mom mumbled on the phone before hanging up.

"How is she?" I asked her frowning.

"Still in a coma and they have wished to stay for a few days there." She replied sighing.

"Satvi will be fine, Mom." I said holding her hand.

"Why don't you all take some rest?" Mom asked, looking at my friends and me.

"We are fine, aunty." Girish said and she nodded before clutching the phone.

"She didn't talk to me." She slowly mumbled.

"She must be in shock or somewhere." I mumbled back.

"So, did you like the engagement ring she bought for you?" she suddenly asked turning towards me.

"Even if you don't, you should like it because she bought it with her own money." She added before I could say anything.

"She had that much money?" Rakesh asked, frowning at her.

"Yes! From the past few years she stopped celebrating her birthday completely and started saving that money for the ring. She even did few works and let go buying some things just for the ring." Mom replied smiling.

"But why?" David asked and I too want to know.

"She wanted the ring to be a special gift for Kamal. She wanted it to be a symbol for her love." Mom replied and we all sat stunned.

"She loves me?" I asked after a few minutes not knowing what to even say to her.

"Of course! She was in love with you for many years." She said smiling and stood up.

"I will go and see for dinner arrangements." She mumbled and walked away while I just sat there.

"Now I understood her running every time." Girish said grinning at me.

"You are lucky to be engaged to a person who loves you." Rakesh said smiling.

"However, he is not actually engaged." Pallavi suddenly said making all of us stare at her.

"What do you mean?" David asked her frowning.

"She didn't put the ring on his finger." She replied, shrugging and we all stared at my finger.

"I don't even know that she didn't put it. How did you?" I asked her frowning.

"I was just watching you both." She replied shrugging.

"Nevertheless, everyone thinks the engagement is over and it is over." Girish said sternly to her.

"What do you say, Kamal?" she asked, turning towards me ignoring my friends.

"It is over and we need to leave tomorrow for the city. I want to search for a job soon." I replied, standing up and walked towards my room.

#PAST END#

"You must also know she forgot the past and I kind of..." Karthik cut him off saying, "He kind of locked her up in this house by telling her a tale of revenge on how she killed his wife, and right now he wants to torture her to avenge her death and all."

"I know!" I mumbled as Vani told me everything and I felt weird to hear it but for her, it was so romantic as he was doing all this to keep her safe because of not having perfect clue about what went wrong during the accident.

Rohan glared at him before continuing to say, "Anyway, my wife being the rebel kind, decided to run away for freedom and ended up using the window which you saw to somehow remove all the obstacles and used it as a passage to run away. Of course, she returned after knowing the betrayal of her best friend here as he is the one who informed me one time when she ran away from her father's place before the forced marriage."

"So, that became like a passage for her which she used so many times and I am sure it more than the times she informed us." Rohan complained.

"Are you both seriously complaining about my secret passage when it is because of that I was able to save all of you?" we all turned to find Satvi standing near the couch with folded arms.

I didn't even realize she came here as I was invested in the things they are saying. Actually, Vani already talked to me but I didn't give it much thought at that time.

Now, it is really interesting to hear all of this after seeing that in the washroom with my own eyes.

I ignored her before asking him, "Then why is there a shutter and password format?"

"I didn't allow him to close it off completely and because we can't keep that one in open, he installed that to keep thieves away." Satvi explained.

"What is the need of it as the reason for that is already solved." I pointed out making Rohan smirk.

"You don't understand, Kamal! I don't know when my dear husband will get weird out of nowhere and lock me in this house next time and so I am keeping my options open." She said shrugging and Rohan immediately glared at her.

"Come on, Di! Rohan Jeeju will always do everything to protect you and you need not worry about those things at all." This time I scowled at Vani hearing her words from the kitchen entrance but she completely ignored my look.

She always praises him from the time she talked about him near me. I couldn't help but still feel jealous of the way she praise him.

I am not talking about jealousy in the wrong way but she admires the way he loves his wife too much as if I am not loving her at the same level as he does.

#PAST#

"Now, tell me how is your cousin?" I asked while feeding her the food which she prepared and she paused while looking at me with a confused look.

"Oh! She is completely fine and even remembers everything now, but until last week she was in danger." She replied understanding my question and started explaining what is happening right now.

"So, now you are fine with your other cousin?" I asked and she nodded after which started talking about her other cousin.

I sat there listening to her as I want to know everything about her. Seems like because of Mom, there are not many secrets about me but I don't know all these things about her.

I started thinking about what to ask next as she nearly finished talking about her cousin called Leela but paused hearing her next words.

"Jeeju is too awesome and no one in this world can love someone like him. He did everything possible just for Di. I always know he is too good." She said and started explaining what he did for her cousin.

"Anyone can do that for someone they love." I said shrugging her words off but at the same time not liking the way she is praising this person whom I never met.

"No! He is one in a million." She said frowning and I frowned back at her for using those words.

"I would do that for you." I said stubbornly and She started at me in shock.

What? Am I that unreliable that she can't even believe that I could something like that? I thought frowning but her eyes widened with a smile covering her face.

"Really?" She asked him with wide eyes.

"Yes!" I replied and she immediately hugged me tightly making me push away the thought about this one in a million Jeeju.

#PAST END#

However, now looking at the man himself, I don't know what to think as all I saw was them fighting and so I must be better than him in the husband department for sure.

"Why is everyone suddenly talking about that time?" Leela asked joining the discussion and Karthik smirked looking at her.

"Your dear brother-in-law got scared after seeing that thing in the washroom." He explained and she chuckled before glancing at me.

"Wait! We are going to stay in the narnia room? Amazing!" Vani gave an excited look towards others while I shook my head.

"I can totally understand you, Vani. Every time I stay over, I plead with her to let me stay in that room but she never agrees saying it is not that safe even with that locked shutter. But because of my son, you are able to stay in that room at least for a day." Leela commented patting her shoulder.

"I will buy a gift for your son for doing such an amazing activity." Vani commented after Leela explained what her son did.

"Enough! Don't forget that none of you know the password and so don't try to use that." Satvi said warning Leela and Vani.

"Lunch is prepared! Everyone settle down on the dining table while I will go and bring the kids." Adding that she turned to climb the stairs and Rohan followed her saying he will help her.

After they both are out of reach, Karthik chuckled saying, "He must be worried right now as the past is brought up. He still feels guilty for terrorizing her like that."

"And you are so happy to see him in trouble, aren't you?" Leela asked rolling her eyes and asked him to help with arranging the dishes on the table.

Vani walked closer to me asking, "Are you getting bored?"

"No! However, I need a moment to wrap everything in my head." I replied and she smiled before caressing my cheek.

"They are good people and you need not walk on eggshells around them." She assured me and I nodded holding her hand.

"Also, we can shift to the other room tomorrow as the work will be done by today evening and we need to wait for the paint smell to go." She added and I nodded not caring about it anymore.

However, I don't want to stay in that room for more than a day. I heard a laugh and turned to find Satvi talking to Sharu and Harsha while holding her son whom I saw when he was born, and so I don't remember him much as I didn't give much thought to the pictures Vani showed.

"Abhi!" Vani whispered before rushing towards her and he hid his face in his mother's hug making everyone laugh.

"Don't mind him! He is a bit shy as he got my husband's nature." She commented smiling and I couldn't help but laugh shocking myself as I found Rohan who is climbing down the stairs, stare at her with a shocked look after hearing those words.

I cleared my throat to control the smile and stood from the couch feeling a bit loosen up and also getting adjusted to their attitude.

When we sat down in the chairs, Vani helped Sharu and Leela served Harsha while adjusting a napkin. I glanced at the baby chair that is placed between Rohan and me and found him helping Abhinay with food.

"Sharu is really a calm child." Leela commented and Sharu smiled hearing the compliment while I shook my head.

"Only before the strangers and at home she doesn't sit at a place calmly. And if Vani tries to feed anything she doesn't like, she runs through the whole house." I explained naturally and paused thinking I am really getting adjusted to them.

No one gave me a strange look for saying those things but laughed hearing those things and she asked, "Every kid does that."

"No! Her way of running is kind of like Vani." I explained and they all gave an understanding look.

"Kamal!" Vani called my name using a warning tone but I just shrugged at her.

"So, only our Abhi is the calmest kid among them then. I can totally imagine that in the future these both make a mess in the house while he tries to stop them. He has a huge burden on his shoulder even though he is younger than them." Vani said smiling at Abhi.

"So true! Even I can imagine that scenario. Satvi Di is really lucky." Leela added while I shook my head.

"Wait a minute! Why are you both talking as if he will remain the youngest forever? Aren't you both going to plan for another child or what?" Satvi asked looking at both of them and they both coughed suddenly hearing that question and even I felt awkward to hear it.

"Don't mind her!" Rohan whispered from my side and I nodded at him but after saying those words he is continuing to feed Abhinay.

"Di!" they both called her but she continued to give them a confused look.

"Fine! Even if we plan for another kid, you will also plan for one and your second child will again become the youngest." Leela commented but she didn't look awkward at all but suddenly shook her head.

"No way! I am not going to have a second child. I had enough with him stopping me from doing each and everything." Satvi said gesturing towards Rohan while he rolled his eyes.

"Come on, Di! He does each and everything because he loves you so much." Vani commented and this time I rolled my eyes as she started her praises.

"Don't start praising him, Vani." Satvi said shaking her head but she continued without listening at all.

"I mean there is a chance to think Karthik not loving Leela Di and there is also a chance to think for a second that Kamal doesn't love me but there is zero chance to think Rohan Jeeju doesn't love you, Di." I stared at her with my jaw-dropping after hearing those words.

"Hey! You can praise your Jeeju without looking down on my love and don't forget your husband is with us this time." Karthik said in a teasing tone.

Vani immediately turned to glance at me with a shocked look and I realized she had actually forgot that I am here.

"I said for a second." She mumbled while smiling politely but I ignored her to eat my lunch.

After finishing lunch, everyone moved to help with the dishes to place them in the dishwasher, and then Leela and Karthik got ready to leave with Harsha.

"If not for the state of that room, I would have asked you guys to stay over." Satvi commented but they waved her off and left the house.

"Why don't you both take a rest while I can take care of Sharu along with Abhi?" She offered and Vani nodded without any reluctance.

After they climbed the stairs with the kids, Vani and I walked into the guest room that is allotted to us.

The first thing she did was to rush into the washroom to look at that thing and I shook my head before sitting on the bed.

She walked out of the washroom smiling and her smile dropped after looking at my serious expression.

"I didn't mean it like that. I am used to praising him and those words came out." She explained but I ignored her to lay down on the bed.

"Come on! Don't be like that, Kamal!" she mumbled laying down beside me and I didn't budge before closing my eyes.

After a few seconds, I felt a weight on my chest and realized she placed her head on my chest with the support of her hand before tracing my eyes with her fingers.

"Sorry!" she whispered kissing my eyes and continued to kiss my nose and then my cheeks while saying that word every time.

"Sorry!" this time she pecked my lips and before she could move away, I moved my hand to place it at the back of her neck.

I opened my lips before pressing her face to mine and kissed her without letting her move and she froze feeling shocked with my sudden move.

However, within a second she calmed down and kissed back while moving her hands to hold my face.

When we both got out of breath, I let her go before opening my eyes to see her smiling at me. She kissed my cheek saying, "I know you couldn't be mad at me for a longer period of time."

"But still your Rohan Jeeju is one is a million even after I allow you to say those things." I pointed out and she frowned in confusion for a second before laughing at me.

"You still remember that?" she asked shaking her head and leaned over to kiss my lips.

"You are one in a billion... no actually trillion... no... no... maybe infinity." She teased smiling at me.

"Enough!" I whispered shaking my head at her teasing words but she stared at me with a huge grin.

I stared at her thinking how much she is adjusting for my sake for all these years but I never took an extra step to adjust for her.

She took my friends as her friends, never treated them as strangers from the beginning, and always gave importance to my relationship with them.

But I... I never did the same for her and I can see that clearly today. Even after all these years, I treated the people she is close to as strangers.

If not for accepting her wish to come here by taking extra leave for a week, I wouldn't have found out how wrong I was to not think about this part of her life.

I know Rupa is her friend and I too think of her as my friend but what about her cousins whom she is so close to.

I am glad I came here today to see this side of hers which is not completely different from her nature but still, it feels a bit unique.

It's like she doesn't care what she says as she has that confidence that none of the people here will take her in a wrong way.

She never showed that near my friends or even near Rupa. I caressed her face smiling and pulled her into my arms to hug her tightly.

"I am sorry!" I whispered and she froze hearing those words.

"What? Why? Why are you suddenly apologizing?" She asked shifting in my hold to stare at my face.

"I didn't come with you to visit your family and mainly your cousin's family. Also, I never tried to get to know them even though they tried to whenever they visited us." I explained and she immediately shook her head.

"What are you saying? I know that you have many responsibilities being a doctor and can't take leave whenever you wish for." She said smiling at me.

"No! I had a few chances to take leave and come here with you but I never felt I should do it as I may feel weird to be among the strangers." I explained and stopped her from defending me again before continuing to talk.

"However, I forgot the fact that when we got married, even you must have felt weird among my friends as they are also strangers to you. But you tried to understand them and even went through a few wrongdoings from them. Still, you embraced them as your friends because they were important for me." I sighed feeling even more guilty while saying these words.

"All I need to do was to come here a few times and spend some time with your family members and get to know the people who care for you and the ones you care for. I couldn't even do that and it is my mistake." I stated and she sighed at the end of my speech.

"I wouldn't say that you need not come with me at all and that it is not important to know my family members. But I know your nature, Kamal. I know that you feel awkward among the strangers unlike me and that's why I never forced you. I am happy that you want to get to know them and that's it." She mumbled shaking her head smiling.

"Even after going through a heavy schedule, you spend time with Sharu and me without fail. And that is more than enough for me as you even help me with everything from house chores to taking care of Sharu when I have more work at the hospital. So, don't even think that you didn't care for me and remove these thoughts. However, from now on try to know them better." I nodded pulling her back into my arms and hugged her tightly.

I am glad I talked to her about this matter as I even get to hear her thoughts. Otherwise, I would have had my own presumptions thinking I am hurting her. I smiled kissing her cheek and closed my eyes.
